Lucid Investor Day - March 12, 2026

If Gravity can’t even handle L3 how on earth do you think Air will on older hardware than Gravity…..

Gee. I dunno. If Tesla can do FSD on their fleet with nothing but a bunch of cameras...

And I'm lost as to the nits of L2 vs. L3 vs... Whatever the 'L' they are, I'm only talking about those features that Lucid SAID the Air could do when they SOLD me DDP! If I'm dumb for thinking they could still make good on those promises, then I'm no more dumb than Lucid for promising them in the first place. Anyway, I concede that I'll no doubt end up getting stiffed on those promised features, while hoping that the same thing doesn't happen to you and your expectations for the Gravity. Bye.

Let's all try and cool the temperature a little bit. (This isn't directed at you specifically @Buffalo Bob, but a general reminder/ask)

Anyone know why hands free highway and city is listed for both 2026 and 2027? They also seemed to flip flop on the year throughout the presentation

2026 Hands off only with Highway drive Assist only (like we do have on Air currently).

2027 hands off with highway/city drive assist

Sorry, but there's really no temperature here. A little frustration perhaps, but this debate is going nowhere, so I'll stay out of it from here on out. My apologies if I upset or offended anyone.

2027 hands off with highway/city drive assist
I was hoping to see Hands On highway drive assist added as a feature for DD Premium in Air. Since it is for Gravity on 3.0. Anyone have info on this?

From what I've seen in this thread, it seems that Lucid's message is "we'll do what Tesla will do". That's not a very smart, or innovative message. It doesn't demonstrate why customers or investors should choose Lucid instead of Tesla.

I had the same question so I watched the video replay of the presentation on YouTube and at about the 2 hour and 6 minute mark, they have a video where I grabbed the below two screenshots: in-city drive assist in 2026 and handsfree city and highway driving in 2027. Of course, those screenshots also show that they are saying L2++ in 2026 and then L2++ in 2027, which just confuses me. I am not providing any weight to both being labeled as L2++ because autonomy levels are poorly defined/very broadly defined. From what I could find, Lucid did not define what capabilities in-city drive assist or the handsfree city and highway driving include. My guess is that in-city drive assist is something like red light detection and some limited steering/navigation in the city (maybe automated lane changes, maybe auto navigation but not including point-to-point navigation), while the handsfree city and highway driving provides full point-to-point handsfree capabilities. I think it makes sense for the first set of features to be less than full point-to-point handsfree navigation just in terms of development and testing and also because Lucid mentioned in the presentation that they are looking at starting to charge the $69/mo for L2++ in the first half of 2027. Again, this is just my speculation based on the presentation and looking into my crystal ball, which is notoriously untrustworthy.

If Gravity can’t even handle L3 how…..
There's a slide in the deck that has a picture of a woman reading a book while driving the Gravity. That screams Level 3.

Yeah, I interpreted the presentation as those capabilities being separate releases, hence why the 2026 and 2027 release dates

I mean, it’s pretty clear from today’s announcements that it’s done! No ADAS/Autonomy mentioned for Air at all. If Gravity can’t even handle L3 how on earth do you think Air will on older hardware than Gravity…..

And yes, it’s clear the path Lucid is taking when it comes to promised features they charge for. They simply may never see the light of day and that’s not a good look for them.
Yeah unless they plan on a hardware re-design refresh, it seems to come down to that redundant system in the Gravity which I don't believe the Air has, nor enough space for larger NVIDIA chips. I think a lot of people would be happy if the Air got to at least do hands-free or LKA DA on non-pre-mapped like Gravity can.

My take from yesterday is this

Hand-free coming Q2
L2++ hands-on with addition of city driving, point to point end of 2026 (traffic light, stop sign recognition etc.)
L2++ hands-off point to point highway\city sometime in 2027

If you look at the demo of what Nvidia showed at CES this year in the Mercedes CLA it should give you an idea of what to expect for Gravity. I believe Marc said it on a Bloomberg interview something along the lines of "Gravity will do that by end of year" .

Upon further reflection, I think you are correct with the hands-on point-to-point city at the end of 2026 and hands-off point-to point city and highway in 2027. I had it in my head that both would be hands-off as I had forgotten about the Mercedes demo and they were talking about handsfree highway driving in 2026 so my brain went to handsfree city assist.

I learned my lesson from Tesla, spent 12k on FSD and it still, hasn’t materialized. Never believe future promises, especially in relation to autonomy. Tech always advances and situations change. I believe they can achieve higher levels of autonomy with present stack, but it will take a long time. By advancing hardware, beyond the scope of what Gravity has right now, they can achieve that faster, and they need to if they want to compete in the robotaxi world. They just pivoted, looking at what Wall Street wants. I’m not bothered at all, I would be more upset if they continued down the same path.

I'm here for anything they said about software improvements. Anything. Great to see the software roadmap for 2026 and beyond. I know there's a balance between just focusing on UX 3.0 but it's been 3 months since a bug update on the Air and boy do we need one. Hoping UX 3 comes sooner rather than later and just lets me geofence my garage and remember the audio source/last track playing. And oh yeah, keyless entry where I'm not literally having to sprint around the front of the car to the driver door when I close the passenger door on the other side. I'm pretty sure they did that on purpose so they can laugh their heads off as the door handle locks just as I reach for it....

So, what's Lucid's take on "hands-on" versus "hands-off?"
For other OEMs, that has mean the difference between requiring the driver to apply some torque to the steering while while the system is engaged versus using an in-cabin camera to monitor driver attention.

But, this seems to be differentiating between city and highway, with highway coming later, which is backwards to how GM Cruise, Ford BlueOrigin, and Tesla FSD were developed.

So, is the differentiating factor WHERE it can be engaged, or HOW driver monitoring? Or BOTH, I guess?

That’s the nature of EVs….software improvements will be exponential, and a big reason they depreciate a lot.
EVs depreciate not because of software, which for many marques are applied to older vehices as well, but because of drivetrain improvements and concerns about battery life. New batteries better than old batteries, both in terms of original capacity as well as degradation.
