2026 Lucid Air Touring - 3 month review

Great summary of current state of the Air. Software, while currently in a seemingly stable place with the 2.8.16 update, is sorely lacking in terms of UX and features. Manual windows is a great way to describe it! I've said this in other threads - I don't regret my decision to go with an AT, but I wouldn't make the same decision again. I've experienced probably all of your complaints with the exception of charging.

EA, while ubiquitous, is the most unreliable of the charging networks in my experience. I'll see 75-100Kw during a typical session at my local EA. If I go to an Ionna station, or an open Rivian station, I can easily max out the 250Kw capability of my AT. I firmly believe any substandard charging experience is almost always down to the provider rather than the vehicle, given typical conditions.

I’ve been assured I’ll get the “best looking” replacement parts this time, since the last couple (HVAC and glass roofs). Both failed. I wonder who their parts supplier is and why they haven’t went after them.

I agree with your take.

I think it is counter-productive for Lucid to take this kind of embellishment on specs in their adverting and claims. The end result is, most owners do not experience these performance claims in their daily drives/charges resulting in credibility-gaps.

Disappointment = expectations not met.

Lucid's drive train engineering is industry-leading. However, in real-life usage, these performance claims fall short of Lucid's IMPLIED claims. It is always better to deliver what the customer would experience under "normal driving conditions" vs rationalizing that the performance metrics can only be achieved in very narrow band of the operating spectrum (e.g., charging speed, efficiency, etc.).
Especially when you have folks like me sniffing around this forums looking to get out of a Tesla and looking at Lucid because I need a road tripper. Under promise. Over deliver.

Glad they aren't going to give you the "worst looking" parts...

As disappointed as I have been with my Lucid experience, the car is still better than Tesla. Except software.

The Lucid Air significantly decreased my trip time compared to my Tesla Model 3 LR. Due both to faster charging times and larger battery capacity.

Bad
- Software is so basic it feels like manual roll up windows in a world of power windows with auto up and down. It lacks what I would consider many basic features. The layout and intuitiveness is confusing. Ex - Themes gets a permanent large logo on the bottom screen and that function doesn’t do anything and isn’t used daily. Yet NAV and Music are smaller icons on the top screen, which are harder to reach ergonomically and used often during the driving experience. Charging doesn’t show power curves. The battery indicator is either the remaining estimated mileage or the %, but not both at the same time. Plenty of space for this. Native NAV works fine in my experience, but needs some cleanup as it can get pretty busy on the screen and hard to visually see the most relevant information such as small icons for exit number on the top screen. That icon should be larger. Spotify is very buggy. In the app I can’t tell if the AC and heated seats are on or off. In the car on the top left screen near the driver’s door the lock/unlock icon shows lock, I guess as an indicator, but intuitively if you want to unlock you press a button that shows locked. The overall UI needs more customization, information (battery temps, charging curve, etc), and a more intuitive and helpful layout. Themes having a prominent space but not music or NAV is amateur hour. For music, you should have better controls on the bottom screen with a slider, forward and backward in a time interval, skip song, etc. I do like how prominent the different drive modes are and that they are easy to change. I’d like to easily know the temp in the car without having to press the temp buttons. Overall, it doesn’t feel logically laid out, a bit unintuitive, but most of all, just doesn’t feel complete.

- Charging speed is not what is advertised. Not even close. I’ve only accomplished above 100kwh once (~105-107) and it was under the ideal conditions - warm air temps, preconditioned battery, high speed EA charger, low battery %. The “fast” charging is completely misrepresented and they are advertising a bill of goods they don’t deliver on. It’s so bad I had my car in for service and after looking it over they said this is just the design. So all the chest pounding about 900V and 200 miles in 15-20 minutes is a load of BS and Lucid should be held accountable for this. The car is now completely worthless for any type of road trip, unless you don’t care about sitting at a charger for 40-50 minutes to get what should take 1/2 the time. The last two fast charging sessions gave me an average of 5 miles added per minute of charging if you assume 4 miles / kWh. My Rivian was compatible with Tesla, which worked beautifully, and EVG and EA. Never an issue getting the speeds to hum as advertised. One of my most recent high speed charges was at EA. 21 minutes and received 25.5kWh. Using my 3.10 m/kWh, that’s a paltry ~76 miles added, not the 200 they advertise. Apparently, all the stars and moon have to align so perfectly for you to achieve true fast charging and I’ve yet to find that. There are a lot of adjectives you can use, none are good, to describe my experience with this so far.

- Regen braking is bipolar. It’s either working or it’s not at all as if you have selected it to be off. Coming from Rivian, where the regen braking had multiple settings and worked flawlessly, this is very disappointing. And dangerous.

- Cup holders make me as angry as the power of 1,000 suns. Did anyone try these before choosing them? A cup of coffee? A soda? A standard Stanley water bottle? Anything at all? Who signed off on this?

- Same goes for the wireless charging. Most phones have a case on but you have to take off the case to use the wireless charging slot. Terrible design again

- App, like software in the car, needs an overhaul. Waking the car in the app can take a long time. I find it helps to take the phone off WiFi, even with a strong signal. Functionality in the app is bad too. When it’s cold it tells me my windows are down but they are not. And as far as I know, I cannot roll my windows up or down from the app, which would be really helpful for when it’s late at night, cold, about to rain, or you’re not longer near the car. Rivian’s worked perfectly, as did the indicators in the app if something was left open. Also, the key fob is not only made of irrationally cheap material but it’s borderline useless.

- Trunk was delivered with one panel not flush so it sticks up above the panel before it and apparently this cannot be fixed without what sounds like major body work. If you’re going to make an ugly trunk lid, it better fit perfectly.

- Car Play resolution is bad. And it doesn’t fit well on the wedge top screen so I don’t bother with it

- Unless I’ve missed it, no recording using all the cameras? The Rivian had Gear Guard, which recorded movement and then if you honked the horn, slammed on brakes, or hit a record button, it would record clips. This came in handy often. Huge miss here

- Premium sound isn’t so premium. It doesn’t sound anymore spectacular than my stock Rivian system. It’s not immersive. Not very crisp or deep. Lucid should’ve partnered with B&O or someone to appropriately design a system specific for the car. $3,000 feels very steep for what you actually get.

- Wind / road noise. I suspect part of this is the efficiency of the vehicle but the windows feel really thin. It’s more noisy than I expected but it’s not terrible.

- Visibility out the driver and passenger windows is rough. I knew this going in but just an FYI, it’s rough. The A Pillar and the height of the windows is very limiting. Even my wife, who is <5’5”, commented on this.

- Takes some time for spatial awareness with the rear doors. Several times early on I would let my kids out of the car and then hit myself in the leg with the door or walk into the leading point. It’s an odd design that takes a while to get used to.
Not sure what your gripe is,

Software 95% there, it does much of what it is supposed to. You are nitpicking, most of your complaints are just your personal preferences, and not a big deal and doesn’t bother most people. You have to understand they made great improvements. I got in my wife’s model 3 the other day, changing climate control settings on one screen was horrible, I was scratching my head how to change blower speed. Not intuitive at all. lucid much better, just toggle those buttons.

Cup holders could be larger but otherwise fine, they grip hard which is good so drink doesn’t topple. No to a big deal.

A pillar is like that for structural rigidity and aerodynamic design. Lucid can’t fix physics. You want less angle, that will affect your range. It’s not a big deal, just bend your head a little to look around it.

So what is Apple CarPlay doesn’t fit the whole screen? So you stop using it? I love Apple CarPlay, Rivian and Tesla don’t have it so never buying those cars.

Best regen braking in the business, you can time your lift off and car stops exactly where you want it with just a few hours of driving. It turns off above 95% I think because you can’t regen above 100%. That’s simple math. not a Lucid issue.

I’ve taken long journeys, no problems. It was

Best car I ever bought! I change my cars every 4 years, my Lucid Air, keeping it a decade!

Hmmm….my Model S plaid works every time, software never glitches, doors always open, it never needs service, never needs to be rebooted, it’s an absolute rocket, and it still looks great.

You’ve had plenty of non-software issues with your Lucid so it’s obviously more than just software.

Some of your points I agree with. Cup holders could be better although they haven’t made me mad. App controls could be better and many more of them.

However, as an owner of 2 teslas and my 25 lucid AT, the long road trip (greater than 250 miles each direction) we no longer consider the teslas. The air has significantly better and more accurate range, as well charges faster. To add to that, is a significantly better driving experience and more comfortable interior space in every measurable way.

Regen braking is superior in the lucid and I’ve never heard anyone disagree, at least compared to Tesla. I use the max settling on the air and love it.

Phone wireless charging works better and more consistently in the air versus tesla. I just wish there were 4 of them. Tesla I always have to take case off no matter how thin and the phone will sometimes slide and stop charging. The lucid charges my phone every trip and that is with my otterbox on the phone. And it holds it in place.

There will always be give and take when comparing different brands of anything. Personally I value the driving experience much more than anything else, so your point about them putting 75% into that, won with me. However I can see why it might not with everyone.

Pretty sure this is all case sensitive. I have an iPhone 17 Pro with a silicon case with kickstand. Charges perfectly fine in our Model Y and our AGT. I never have to pull it out of the case. My wife's iPhone 17 Pro with a different case has to be removed from the case. Same two cars...same two phones...same two chargers...Only variable is the case.

iPhone 17 Pro in case.webp

Thanks for posting this. It’s helpful to get a perspective from unhappy Lucid owners. Although I am a happy Air touring owner for a bit over one year. I have zero of these complaints, EXCEPT for door opening, which is (admittedly) very stupid, as even the “lowly “ KIA and Hyundai get this right 100% of the time. For me, and I have learned it varies by people, the doors don’t open automatically about 1/4 of the time, unless I have to take my phone out of pocket, and unlock it, and such. So embarrassing, and stupid. You would think they would have fixed it by now.

The car drives beautifully, looks amazing outside and inside, charges fast, has best range, and I like the user interface (I know this is subjective). Bottom line: get the best car for YOU next time. Life is too short to be unhappy driving a car daily

This is a Pure; OP has a Touring. Touring is 92 KWH vs Pure's 84 KWH
True, but this is the best data point I could find. The numbers may change slightly, but the overall graph will remain the same.

Even over the last year the software has been improved and CarPlay added. I think a lot of the OP's issues will be dealt with via UX 3.0 later this year (I agree...where is Sentry? Walk away windows, stuff like that). I actually hope that update doesn't introduce a bunch of new gremlins.

Coming from 2 Model 3s spread across almost 7 years, it took a while for Tesla to get where it is now, software wise. Lucid hasn't been producing cars nearly as long.

I've never had DC charging issues although I don't do it very often.

Somehow I don't think you should accept the answer from services about how your car charges. Unless this session is the following: Station not put in the NAV, no automatically pre-conditioning, 0 DEG F temperatures.

Below is what I got regularly from my 2024 Air Touring which is the same battery during the 97 degree 2025 summer heatwave. That is very nearly 200 miles in 18 minutes.

You live in Central PA? I always like to "meet" other owners in the area.

Thank you all for your replies. The variability in what people achieve with charging speeds reminds me of something Phil Mickelson said to David Feherty in an interview about people talking about how far they hit their pitching wedge - “people say well I hit my pitching wedge 120. You might hit it 120 under certain conditions but in the morning the ball’s not going to go 120, maybe in the afternoon when it’s warmer and it heats up…the first cut always comes out 6-8 yards dead…if it’s sitting up on zoysia or off of a tee always goes 5 yards farther with each iron…”

A few took offense with some of my criticisms, which is fine, but this is called a review and it’s not your car. If you didn’t design it, why get so worked up over it?

I’m hopeful but not optimistic I’ll see a change in charging speeds. If they don’t improve, I’ll just have to work with Lucid to see if there’s something else they can do. I’m not going to be stuck with a slow charging EV unless the conditions are precisely perfect.

I don’t disagree with the rest of your comments in your last post, but your review wasn’t an editorial; you posted it in a forum and invited comments.

Some of those comments will disagree with you, sometimes vehemently. It’s okay for people to have emotion about the things they own, etc., good or bad. In fact, I’d argue that evoking emotion is quite literally the point of a great product.

It should not be surprising that if you are able to post a review, positive or negative, that folks are able to respond, positively or negatively, to that review. :)
