HUD tilted

You guys in this thread are making me feel really good about my decision to skip the tech pkg in my order !

The way I see it, the high position of the cockpit screen is "heads up" enough and the info the HUD projects seems redundant
I'd say that. The HUD doesn't add much in its current state and it takes a lot of wiggling around to find a sitting position where you see it ok and the reflection doesn't bother you. The ambient lighting is nice, but too subdued for my taste, specially if you are in the driver's seat. I don't like the excessive light show Cadillacs and MB have, but I wish the Gravity's were more visible (personal taste, of course)

I love my Lucid Gravity, but I feel this HUD tilting issue needs to be resolved. Either a retrofit mounting bracket or something because like most of you, my HUD is tilted/slanted upwards to the right. I'm 6'2", so I have my seat at the lowest position. The HUD is just a blur and I can barely make of of the yellow arrows for blind spot indicators. If I were to bow down or crunch, it's solid white color and horizontal. Of course, I can't be crunching while driving. I addressed my concern to Costa Mesa SC and this is what they came back with :(

I wonder if that description threw them off? It's aimed too low (to the driver's face), and needs to be aimed higher. They got it backwards in the description and may have been looking in the wrong spot.

Although that response makes it seem doubtful they'd do anything either way. It may be "operating as designed" but the design just sucks. Between the HUD aiming and the rear window wiper obstruction, it seems like this car was designed by someone that's only 5'6" tall.

I'd set the seat fairly high before taking it in and ask that a tech over 5'11" sit in it.

I was curious if changing the windshield position would affect the head aiming. I just tested it. It doesn't. The fringe of the focus stays exactly the same no matter where the image sits on the windshield. All that does is move the lettering within the image being projected. The projection aiming stayed fixed.

Same here. Coming from a Model Y for several years just having the data in front of me felt HUD-like already. The fact that it sits clearly above the steering wheel is plenty enough for me, even for my old eyes.

It needs to be aimed at the lowest. If it's aimed any higher, it becomes more of a blur the more it goes up... At the lowest position for me, is actually the most bright, but still at half brightness. If I were to bow my head down, it's perfectly straight and very Bright and Contrast. I'm not sure where this went wrong...

Right, if we lower our heads a little we get into the actual field of view for the HUD, because it's aimed too low for where our heads are. For someone short it's probably fine but for anyone that's over 6 feet (or just has the seat set somewhat high) we're sitting above (or on the fading fringe of) it's low aim.

I think we're referring to the same thing, just saying it differently. When I say "aim", I mean where it's target is (the driver's head). It's aimed at a target that's too low, and needs to aim higher.

its just a bad design, like the face camera in the Air.

It should be fixable with a software update, I'd imagine. I hope will be, at least. I can't imagine it's purely hardware driven.

Could be, although my guess is it's the angle the screen is physically mounted at for reflecting off the windshield, and the screen needs to be physically repositioned a few degrees differently.

What's displayed within that screen is clearly software though (i.e. the contents of the screen). Including where the text appears within the screen (via the up-down HUD controls). But my guess is that whole screen simply reflects off the windshield at a fixed angle determined by it's physical mount. Just my guess though.

Here's a diagram of how a typical HUD system works. Seems like one of those 2 mirrors needs an adjustment to aim the projection higher.

Absolutely no chance this can be fixed with software. The tilting and blurriness will not be fixable with software.

The problem is how it’s physically mounted, which is not adjustable via software, and how it’s physically angled towards the windscreen, which also cannot be adjusted via software. Third issue is the curvature of the windscreen itself - good luck downloading a software update to adjust that.

The software merely adjusts the position of the images on the screen it’s projecting from, which is not the source of the tilt or the blur.
