HUD tilted

It’s due to the way the camera on the phone see’s it when taking the shot sometimes.
Weird! For a second I was wondering if I'd missed a setting in the options or something... 🤣

I can barely see mine based on my seating height, and it is a hazy purple. If I sit way down, it is bright white.

I have not seen a HUD that doesn't. I'm sure some exist, but at least this part is not unique to Lucid. There are polarized lenses that don't block it, though. But yeah, same goes for any other HUD I've used. Doesn't detract from the other points, but wanted to point this out.
The only other HUD I've had is our Porsche Macan EV that we got in June. It has no problem at all with my polarized sunglasses. I can even tilt my head some either way and it doesn't fade at all. It's about half as bright because of the darkened lenses, of course, but plenty bright enough (perfect, actually) and the image is rock solid. No fading with the glasses or head movement until you move way left or way right. Much wider field of vision. No problem sitting high in the seat either.

Those are all problems I have with the Gravity HUD. The polarization problem is readily apparent by just tilting my head. The image starts to re-appear if I tilt my head about 20 degrees either way. As if they picked the exact wrong way to rotate the projector. Makes me wonder if they simply rotated it 90 degrees or something, it would be solved.

Same here. I always like my seat set high. I can barely see an image (and none at all with sunglasses) unless I duck way down. Then it gets brighter. This thing needs serious work on widening it's field of vision.

Which is interesting as Lucid claims it’s got one of the widest, if not the widest in the industry.

It seems once again, they’ve engineered the hardware but the team developing the software for it was left out of the meetings.

The difference between the HUD in my Lexus and my Gravity is night and day. The Lexus HUD displays crisply in the perfect place with minimal adjusting (I have had it for more than two years). I ended up just turning off the Gravity HUD. It sits too high and is too blurry.

For those who have blurry HUD’s, does it become crisp when you tilt your head?

Mine is at the edge of focus with my head straight, with the sweet spot at ~10 degree tilt of my head to the left.

I'd describe mine as fading in brightness rather than being blurry, but yes, when wearing my polarized sunglasses, it gets much brighter if I tilt my head in either direction. The current config is perfectly misaligned at 0 degrees horizontal for my glasses. I don't know if all polarized sunglasses are oriented the same way, or it's just some of us? I wonder if that's why I have no problem with my Macan HUD using the same glasses... the polarize orientation just happens to randomly match up better with it?

That’s how polarization works. As in, that’s normal.

@Saksak was referring, I believe, to this happening without glasses.

That is almost certainly the case. There are companies who sell polarized lenses that solve this very same problem. BMW, for example, sells polarized automotive sunglasses so that drivers can see their HUD.

Right, but if you get the orientation right to match the angle the glasses will be at, it works.

I just don't know if all glasses tend to be oriented at the same angle, or it's just random. If not random, then the HUD should be oriented to so that it's never an issue.

I assume he was referring to wearing polarized glasses. If not, the angle shouldn't matter, but perhaps he's just moving his head in/out of the narrow viewing angle when tilting his head? Or maybe he's wearing polarized contact lenses?

Yes, I was referring to blurriness/focus without polarized sunglasses. If you tilt your head, the HUD will go out of focus at some point, as your left/right eye will not line up and you start getting double images that our brains can’t subconsciously compensate for.

The overall HUD tilt may be an indirect result of trying to compensate for left/right eye alignment problems. Tilting my head gives better focus, but just tilting the hud for left/right eye alignment would result in a tilted display.

I wouldn't think the tilt angle would matter at all without polarized lenses involved. Are you sure it's really the tilt that's doing it, or is it that when you tilt your head you're also moving it to the side? Maybe try just moving your head to the side (or up/down) the same amount without tilting it to see if it does the same thing. The field of view seems to be very small and picky on this car. Maybe you're just getting one eye outside of the window (unrelated to tilt angle)?

Yes, never mind on head tilting for clarity. My wife says it’s a tad clearer when she tilts her head to the right, instead of the left like me. We both wear glasses/contacts, so it’s probably our own eyes playing tricks on us.

I do wish the clarity of the HUD was better. My HUD is straight, though. The hardest part was finding a flat reference point for comparison as roads have crowns and are themselves tilted for drainage.

I'd say the HUD on the image above looks tilted clockwise, this is especially visible on how letter "P" and rectange around MPH 5 are both leaning right. Mine looks exactly the same.
Wonder if anyone's been able to re-calibrate their HUD with Lucid service's help?
This is what my service invoce back from December said about that:

Checked operation of the client's HUD system. Found to be on/active and able to move up and down. Image clarity when compared to a similar vehicle was within like tolerance. Image did appear to be slightly biased to the right. Created case 01125753 for review. FTS team member was onsite to attempt calibration of the heads up display. At this time calibration was not successful. Implementation of this calibration in the field is still on-going. Will follow up with the client once the process is more reliable to complete the calibration.

I haven't had service do anything yet. Mine is a bit tilted the other way, but that's far less of an issue for me then the focal point not being aimed high enough. I sit somewhat high in the seat where the brightness fades dramatically. If I duck a few inches it gets twice as bright. If I stretch my neck just a tad higher, the image disappears completely. Sitting comfortably I get about 50% brightness (with the brightness setting maxed out). The whole thing either needs a broader angle of focus, or needs to be angled upward more.

Yes this is exactly my situation. It is blurry/out of phase when looking straight on. When I tilt my head to the left it becomes super crisp. Infuriating.

You guys in this thread are making me feel really good about my decision to skip the tech pkg in my order !

The way I see it, the high position of the cockpit screen is "heads up" enough and the info the HUD projects seems redundant
