Gravity Bugs / Issues

Does that leave us android users out of a phone key?
Does Android have a UWB equivalent offering? I don’t know enough about that ecosystem.

There are three different types of reset (owner's manual page 196):

Sleep/vehicle power cycle - when you walk far enough away from the locked car for a few minutes.
Screen Restart/Soft Reboot - pressing the brake and then holding X/mic for 10-15 seconds until you hear a chime (and see a message if the screen is actually working).
Forced Restart/Hard Reboot - pressing the brake and then holding X/mic for about 20-25 seconds to get a single chime and then wait for a double chime.

In my case I tried the soft reboot first which restarted the screens but only the pilot panel was active so I got out and walked away to let it power cycle. The second time it happened a soft reboot fixed it.
The soft vs. hard reboot is important. I had a blank cockpit display where I couldn’t drive (thankfully, only once in 4 weeks of ownership). A soft reboot failed to fix it, but the hard reboot did. It seemed like I held those buttons down forever.

I love driving the Gravity and my wife loves being the passenger - she prefers it over our other cars. She has yet to drive it, though. I can deal with and work through the occasional glitches. She doesn’t care how great the driving experience is. She needs the Gravity to “just work” before she’ll drive it.

I’m doing my part to help Lucid (I hope). 17 emails to [email protected] with detailed descriptions of software bugs and photo/video evidence (see the pinned post: what to include when submitting feedback). I don’t know if this is true or not, but someone posted that Marc Winterhoff, interim CEO, gets a weekly report of the emails.

Well, for the first time my Gravity had a black screen on getting in, twice in one day. We were leaving in the early afternoon for an event and the top screen was black when we were trying to leave which required us to exit and wait for the car to sleep before getting back in. We went to one place for a few hours, left and went to another place for a few hours and then when we were leaving there it did the exact same thing again.

When leaving home I tried to do a reset first and that didn't fix it. The second time a reset did fix it.

I can't complain too much at this point, we've had it over a month and this was the first time it did this and the first time I've really encountered anything that wasn't just a minor quirk.
I got a black dash screen yesterday too when getting in. Waited about a minute for it to come on, then was just starting to do the reboot sequence when it finally came on.

Been getting a lot more error messages the last few days too. A new one today ("Regen limited"). Headlight error is nearly every time I get in the car now. Sensors blocked maybe every other time.

And for the first time, the I got the "shake key" message. The rear and passenger door handles wouldn't present, but the driver did. Got in and saw that message. Put it in gear the Park, shook the key, hit the fob unlock button many times, finally the doors presented.

Got home and popped the fob battery out. Measured at 2.85v. Just put in a new one that measured 3.35V. I'll see if it happens again.

I wonder how they decided on “shake the key” to be the error message. It’s funny.

Well, to be fair it has an accelerometer that powers it on from it's sleep mode and shaking it is how you're supposed to wake it up.

It seriously has an accelerometer?
Yes, a very sensitive one. I just finished my first play with the fob with some test equipment. The fob starts drawing more power the moment you move it. I'm talking laying on the table, pressing the end off level and let it wobble back. This will cause increased current consumption for about a minute. I could barely pick it off the table without triggering it.

Don't know yet it turns off after a while of constant motion like walking.

Almost all modern key fobs do, it’s not unusual at all.
Huh, I had no idea.

It is curious how it seems like fobs have been virtually flawless for like 30 years, but all of a sudden Lucid struggles with it. I've owned 7 Fords and now one Porsche in the last 30 years and I don't think I ever had a problem with the fobs not working well. And only had to replace the batteries maybe every 3-4 years. Smaller batteries too.

Here is a new one, abit concerning and very unexpected. I'm not really sure what to make of it. See attached picture and see if any of the math the navigation is telling me makes sense to you all. Mind you this was after 20 minutes of driving. I really thought it would re calculate after a minute but it never did until after we charged. We were heading across the state right though the middle of the Ocala National Forest, had I not been paying attention we could have very easy been stuck tonight. Or more accurately, had I trusted navigation and not realized I could not possibly go 80 miles on 9kw of battery...
It's almost like that should be saying negative 11%
Thoughts??
Lucid’s % battery remaining is funny. I noticed that the lower the %, the further you can drive. If you fully charge to 100%, 100% > 80% happens in just a few miles, but once you get into the 70% range, the remaining % takes longer to reduce. Chances are what you’re seeing may be accurate in terms of remaining range %. Also, the car may have factored in the low state of charge energy conservation feature after sub 15%.

Lucid needs to update their remaining % meter to be more accurate. It’s also relates to how lithium battery discharge energy.

This is all just a guess…

Today, the front passenger's door handle stopped presenting itself when the car is unlocked, either from the fob or app or from inside the car. Pressing on the handle with the car unlocked locks the car, and pressing on the handle with the car locked and key fob in my pocket unlocks the car, but the handle won't pop out.

Went to schedule a service visit. Today is 27Jan and first available is 12Mar. Not great, especially considering how few cars have been sold.

I believe the issue is that early fob design had a ton of security flaws that could allow someone to steal a car. For a number of years few people cared because the number of thieves sophisticated enough to do it were few. These days you can easily buy the equipment to exploit the insecure systems originally used. Lucid's fob uses a new generation of encrypted radio protocol that is supposed to be much more secure, but apparently also isn't yet mature, reliable engineering.

Mines in for service now and it seems there’s an active campaign to check the NFC tray

The issue with this is they need your key card to test it. I asked if they wanted my key card (not knowing about the bulletin), they said “no, just the fob”, then there was a note saying they couldn’t perform the test for the bulletin as they didn’t have my key card! Ugh. And yes, my center console stopped working for key card. Doesn’t really matter since b pillar works to start now, but still…

Have you seen the issues Rivian is having with it? It’s not functioning flawlessly and given Lucid’s woes with keys I don’t think they’ll release PAAK if it’s not dialed in properly. It would be humiliating for them to have yet another key failure do the rounds online.

Sounds like the UWB stuff is still very much a WIP.
I’ve had our R1S for two years with no PAAK issues except right after delivery…just sayin’…

It’s a different technology. Rivian recently deployed the new Apple Digital Kay the same as what Lucid is deploying for Gravity and Rivian owners have been reporting issues with it.

Can you imagine if Lucid deployed it, even working with 80% success. They’d be nailed to the cross over it after all the issues experienced with the fob.

Great!! They didn’t ask for my key card 🤬
