Gentlemen! Do you fixate on noises? Does that buzzing light switch keep you up at night? Do you do jujitsu? Can you count the toothpicks as they hit the ground?!?
Me too.
When the interior lights come on, the window switch LEDs make an electrical whine more annoying than my tinnitus. This, clearly, is unacceptable. I was about to just rip the switch out and throw it away when I decided to try an old car audio trick, and it worked: felt tape.
You need:
1” felt tape
Scissors
The sound emits from the underside of the switch through a crack in the rocker.
This fix uses felt tape to fill that gap in a non-permanent, non lease return charge way.
Step one: cut the tape to about 2”
Step two: fold 2/3rd of the tape back on itself to make it thicker but leaving some adhesive
Step three:
Insert the tape plug into the recessed area in front of the switch. Press the non-sticky side firmly UNDER the switch so it presses against the gap, you will hear the humming stop. Then press down on the exposed adhesive (where I am pointing with the pick). This will allow the felt gasket to stay against the switch gap and flex with it, preventing all humming. When it’s time to turn your car in or just replace it, simply pull it out.
Boom! Now we can enjoy silence.
