So having just gotten done yesterday (December 27) with over 2200 miles of road tripping, I thought I'd share some of my findings and feelings. To preface, 1500 miles or so of this trip has been on 3.3.20 and it was done in warmer weather as we've had a lot of pleasant temps (60s and 70s) in the areas of AL, NC, SC, GA and FL of which we've traveled. Also to note my Gravity has probably one of the highest amount of miles (just about to hit 12k) on it and also is in need of service (window seal is lousy, trunk and frunk have issues and Dream Drive has been out for about 3 months) with the car scheduled to go in next week. Was hoping for before our trips, but due to stupid stuff (mostly SC fault) it was not meant to be.
I must start to say what an OVERWHELMINGLY positive experience it has been with the Gravity on these trips! ESPECIALLY after the 3.3.20 update, I have had damn near flawless software experience. It very clearly shows how much Lucid stepped up to the plate with the software, how FAR they had to go to get here, and how they still have plenty to improve on and deliver on promised features. I now have very solid confidence that they will get the software up to where it should be and anyone looking to wait a little bit will be very happy with their vehicle. It is honestly like night and day as its crazy I got so used to swiping to ignore the false alerts, rebooting to clear up issues and hoping EACH and every time I got in the car it would start and not have key issues or black screens and booting issues. I rebooted all of one time with the proximity beep issue, which cleared, and that was the only time I needed to. The car starts up very quickly almost every single time, the key not detected error never appeared once and false alerts only cropped up maybe 2 or 3 times total when I was used to that coming at least as much in almost every drive. I am now a VERY happy customer, tho I know there's still lots of room for improvement and some of that has to come from service and expansion on that, which will take time. I feel I can hold for that, but won't fully endorse any Lucid to anyone more than a few hours from a SC right now. That's my only holdout remaining at this time. I know it hasn't been the same for everyone, but my 3.3.20 experience has just been a remarkable turn around.
The charging experience was largely flawless as well. Charged at Tesla mostly but also had a few Ionna stations mixed in there and the Gravity typically hit its max charge speed and rate each time. Only once or twice did I have an issue and have to reconnect or move chargers. I bought a Tesla membership for the month, so I didn't use plug and play, but it still all worked really well for me. I had issues at first with Nav routing me to only Tesla SCs but I figured out how to change the settings to get it to do so (I had to set the option for adapter not needed to ensure only Tesla or Ionna stations came up in routing).
As for nav and routing, that's one part that still needs improvement. It got me there pretty good about 90% of the time, but sometimes it just wasn't very good. Giving me sill routes to get somewhere simple. Giving me estimates that I would arrive with a higher state of charge than I started with in getting to a charger (with no charging in between), telling me it would take 4 hours to drive 11 miles (it took about 10 minutes) and sometimes the map rotating around or constantly telling me to u-turn to keep on the primary route, when I was switching to an alternative route it suggested. The nav needs work for sure.
Other bugs still there are occasional errors or failure warnings while charging, proximity lock and unlock would sometimes suddenly stop working for locking up or it would lock the car, but the lights would stay on for a few minutes after walking away. Music source would still occasionally switch to Sirius from Tidal, but most times it would stay on Tidal but forget where I was in a song or playlist and I'd have to start over. The Lucid vibes still on occasion changes back to white. These bugs were all relatively minor compared to the grind that it was to operate prior to the update. I am just hoping that Lucid continues to improve software like this and NO future updates turn into the two steps forward, three steps back issue again. Take your time Lucid and get them right please.
I'm not going to get into the drive and all those mechanics, as that remains as OUTSTANDING as ever! Still one of the most amazing and luxurious vehicles on the planet to drive!
Once I get my hardware issues resolved, and I can use Dream Drive again, I am pretty sure I'll be a very happy and proud Lucid customer again and will sing it's praises all around (Assuming they live close enough to service centers). I hope everyone who has a Gravity has had a really good experience with their updates as well and for prospective buyers, I want you to have hope and see the positive. If you delayed, it looks like you made the smart and sanity saving move! You should be getting a much improved product. I also hope the reviewers, like @outofspeckyle and others take notice and give Gravity another shot with the updated software and see the owners on here having a much better experience. Maybe next year, Gravity can seriously compete for some of those awards!
Happy New Year to you all!
