Has anyone used the Tesla charging subscription with their Gravity yet? I know that I'll need to disable plug & charge and use the Tesla app to initiate charging, just seeing what other people's experiences were and if there were any other things to be aware of.

I'm planning some longer roadtrips in the Gravity where I'll mostly be using Superchargers and the discounted rate per kWh will really add up. It seems like charging rates are about $.15-$.17 cheaper per kWh with the subscription at the stops I'll be making (1800 mi each way).

Yep, I did it for this month with 2 big road trips I have to take, with one already done. It's pretty easy, just choose the charger in the Tesla app and then plug in. Worked without issues for me each time.

You don't have to disable plug-and-charge to initiate a charge with the Tesla app. I switched between the two methods seamlessly, as sometimes I would pay the higher rate to use plug-and-charge for a brief top-off just to be sure it was still working.

However, since the 3.3.20 update we've had trouble initiating charges at Superchargers and at CCS chargers no matter what method we were using to initiate the charge.

Got it, thanks!

My other car is a Tesla, and I already have the Tesla app, and payment method stored in my account.
Do I need to do anything special to charge my Gravity at a Tesla charger?

Thanks

If you want to use plug and charge (being able to just plug the charger into the car and have it start automatically) you have to have a payment method stored in your Lucid Wallet.

With the Tesla app you have to launch the app first and tell it you're charging at a particular stall before plugging it in to the car.

Yes, with other EVs (I assume it will work on the Gravity too), if you start the session in the Tesla app before plugging in, the app wallet pays for the session (including membership discount if active). It takes ownership of the session before P&C gets a chance.

You have roughly 2 minutes to plug in after starting it in the app, before it times out.

Choose the "Charge your other EV" option in the app to add your Lucid

Does it matter if you have your car configured correctly as far as telling the Tesla app that you have a NACS port and adapter? I just noticed that it shows which sites support which OEMs. I had to use the app the tell it which stall to start.

I'm not sure it matters which non-Tesla you have registered in the app, but I you do need to register a non-Tesla if you want it to filter out the Tesla-only stations on the map. MENU bars, CHARGING, VEHICLE DETAILS, add your vehicle, and select YES to "Does your vehicle have a NACS charge port or do you have a NACS DC adapter?".

I entered my car information. Unfortunately from me I have two super charging stations within a couple miles of my house and cannot use either. One is because it's an older supercharging station and not compatible, the other is brand spanking new and should be compatible but Tesla hasn't opened it up to non Teslas as of yet. Neither of these stations show up in the Tesla or Lucid apps.

Gave it a test today as we're going to be charging at Superchargers the next few weeks and it worked great starting in the Tesla app to get the discount. Hopefully some day Lucid adds a way to pass through the membership with plug and charge but it's really simple in the meantime.

But plug and charge would also work correct? If I were to just bypass the Tesla app and therefore the membership discount?

So basically you use the Tesla app and get the discounted rate OR you use the Lucid app to not get the discount, but get true plug and charge? No possible way to just use plug n charge via the Lucid app and yet get the discounted membership rate coz we have that membership ongoing with Tesla?

Correct. And it's not just Lucid, it's all non-Teslas. Same situation with EA's Pass+ membership discount. To get the Tesla or EA membership discount price, you have to pay with the Tesla or EA wallet, meaning starting the session with the Tesla or EA app.

If the car account pays for it (either Plug & Charge, or starting the session with the car's app, then there's no SC or EA discount. The charger account and the car account don't talk to each other.

That's the easiest way to think of it... it's tied to which wallet is paying for the session.

EV manufacturers have been talking about trying to coordinate with SC and EA membership discounts for years, but it's never happened. Maybe some year it'll happen. Or not.

In one of Kyle Conner's videos it was mentioned that Lucid was working with Tesla to make plug-and-charge compatible with the Tesla subscription plan, but that was months ago and it's been crickets ever since.

Frankly, though, using the Tesla app to initiate the charge is pretty easy. The only issue might be that you sometimes have to get out of the car to see the charger number for the stall, something you have to enter into the app -- and that could mean that in a rain you have to spend a few more moments outside the car to key it into the app before you can grab the plug and insert it into the charge port.

I'm seeing about $0.20 per kwh discount for Tesla Membership. At about $14/month (including taxes in CA), the break-even point is about 65kwh, which is just under one 50% charge added. So, it's kind of a no-brainer if you're road tripping at all, too bad about losing plug-and-charge though.

Agreed on the costs, I just hadn't really seen anyone talk about using it so wanted to make sure it was as easy as it seemed to be.

Just finished our first 800+mile road trip.

Car charged every time we tried, but wasn't without issues:
1) At first Tesla SC, used app, selected unit, plugged in and charged fine.
2) At an EVgo charger, had to guess which charger we were at, but guess right and charged with the CCS1 Combo adapter.
3) At an Electrify Ameria charger, plug-and-charge worked after a couple/few minutes of handshaking.
4) At the same Tesla SC as in #1, had issues starting charging because of lousy cell phone reception. And because of lousy cell phone reception, the Lucid app was giving me bad information, but car IC was OK.
5) At another Tesla SC, charging stopped for some strange reason, not given. Rather than hassle with the Tesla app again, I unplugged and replugged and plug-and-charge started the charge.
6) After getting home with about 20% SOC, car charged on schedule (12:01 am), but then stopped at 3:59am (I was asleep), but then apparently restarted itself right away. Woke up to the requested 80% SOC, but scary looking at the messages on my phone.

FWIW, none of the Tesla owners at the SCs seemed to care about our Gravity, but a Toyota B24X car owner was very very excited to see our car and had a ton of questions. The Toyota's charge port is located at the driver's front so he smartly pulled into the gridded non-spot next to station 1A (a handicap spot) and used the cord from station 1B. This way he wasn't blocking any other station from being used. I thanked him for that.

It was cold, so I didn't grab a video of the Gravity looking way cool with it's charging animation on the front next to the boring Teslas at the last SC.

We charged at two EAs yesterday (with subscription) through the EA app. Was flawless to kick off the charge, but the first station was only getting like 75kW. So we moved and got 175kW on a “shared 350kW” charger. Second EA was fine tho, and got about 320kW or so.

Today we charged at a Rivian Adventure charger; pulled >300kW deeeep into the pack.

Very impressed with Gravity’s charging overall.
