Gravity Wraps

I'm expecting delivery of my Gravity at the end of December. I've never done a wrap but want it for paint protection only, so just clear. Any recommendations on places to have it done in the San Jose, CA area?

OCDetailing in Fremont or Deep Reflections in SJ are the two most widely recommended. I prefer OCD, but lots of people have been happy with DR. DR is a little cheaper.

There's a thread for Air Wraps - I thought it would be interesting to start noodling wraps here in the Gravity side of the forum.

I'm honestly a bit disappointed with the color offerings on Gravity. I like Lunar Titanium best but I am nervous about pushing the already unknown delivery window back even further by another unknown factor. My current order config is for Aurora Green, which is interesting I think but probably not what I would have picked if I had another compelling choice. I know some say it's great, and maybe it will be, but taste is personal. The rest are meh in my opinion; some could be interesting in real life but I wasn't a fan of any of them in the speedforms I saw in the experience center. And since I probably won't get a chance to see all the colors in person before having to commit to a color, I may be stuck having to cross my fingers and hope that the green looks great.

So I'm thinking of getting a wrap. I've never wrapped a car before so I'm new to everything that it entails. Will I see the undercolor when I open doors, trunk, frunk etc? Is that bothersome or does one just get used to it?

I'm also interested to talk colors! I think Gravity would look great in a sapphire-esque color. Maybe that would be cheesy since mine won't actually be a sapphire, but if I do it before they actually make one, I'm not being a poseur, right? I also thought about a matte Zenith red-like color.

Is anyone else thinking of going this route?

I had my Model X completely wrapped in clear. Great for washing, no scratches, etc. BUT, totally unnecessary as the brunt of your exposure is the front and front mirrors. The guy I always use concurred with me. Wrap the front and front fender panels. Wrap the mirrors. Ceramic coat the rest with the best 10 yr protection you can get. Saves a ton and you're not putting it where most often, no issues arise. I ran into a really costly expense this fall when my MX got bumped into by a car backing out and they took out my passenger rear quarter panel. They had to peel the PPF off of the falcon wing door, the trunk and bumper and parts of the rear roof. Replaced the quarter panel, then had to paint it and feather in that area with where all the PPF was removed. I had to then put PPF back on all of those areas. This whole mess cost $14,800. Really wished that whole rear end had not been PPF'd. So with my GGT, just the front and ceramic coated the rest.

Did they do cut out for all the sensors in your cars?
They did that for my Air, but recently another installer told me this isn't necessary.
Wondering what Lucid recommends.

Yes. Cut out for the sensors. It has been tried without cutting out and causes reflection errors.

Can't wait to see -- I love that color, but i have trouble picturing it on the Gravity!

so out of curiosity- I'm guessing you'd need to have the wrap removed if you turned the vehicle in on a lease? How difficult and costly is it to do that?

yeah I’m pretty sure it’s probably against the terms of a lease, since in that situation you’re basically renting the car.

Removing a wrap is time consuming, but shouldn’t damage anything if done properly.

Beauty ….. there are some great colorful wraps out there. They can only change cars appearance just like certain wheels.

I had AutoCraft do a front PPF and a blackout of platinum pieces. Was my first time doing both. They got a guy come out and do it and I didn’t feel 100% comfortable with the result even though he seemed to know what he was doing.

I was much more happy with the work done installing the Uniden R9W, He in house tech was excellent. They charge like $229 an hour, that’s Manhattan for you. Photo of mine is in this thread, possibly a page or two back.

Nice, I like it. I wrapped over the side rear name plate. Personally I think it does not look good with the cutout for the name plate and it should’ve been one piece. Not to mention the name of the car does not need to be everywhere. It’s already embossed on the front lip, have the badge on the rear (which I always remove) and the two sides. Wrapped does not look amazing. I had mine painted a darker shade of gray which at an angle sometimes looks black
