I've said for awhile, if Lucid can get their software figured out properly, they'll over the world.
 
A parable of love:

In my youth I met a girl, she was unlike any other I had met. A breath of fresh air, someone different from all the others. She had a great personality, was very athletic and had great proportions. I thought she was totally out of my league, but we dated and fell in love and got married.

We went on many trips together, saw beautiful places together and of course had travel mishaps, sometimes getting stranded – there was one that time where she broke her shoes in the cobbled markets while we were running a little too fast. But we were in love and it was all an adventure. We were young, wild, and free.

People would come up to us all the time and comment on how a cute couple we were, and how lucky I was to find such a partner in life.

As the honeymoon wore off and life settled in however, we started to fight with each other as couples often do. Sometimes she would shut the door on me and not let me in. Other times we fought over the music and she wouldn’t let me play what I wanted. Sometimes there would just be days where I couldn’t figure out what was going on and we’d just have to walk away from each other and let things cool off. Then after we came back everything was fine.

Our biggest fight however, one that almost broke us was the time I told her she needed an attitude adjustment, a rearchitected world view. Maybe her software was what was the problem. That didn’t end well.

In the end we accepted each other and lived a much happier life. We had kids together, they were beautiful children with great personalities – definitely not from me.

The strange thing was, these kids would still shut the door on me, fight over the music, and fight with us.

I asked my wife – software update?
 
With the new ix3 getting 400 mile range ( EPA cycle) and 800V , if Lucid don’t get their act together, they will struggle to sell even the midsize. That and Rivian R2 will be released at least 6 months ahead of Lucid, or even a year, looking at how Lucid drags their feet.

It’s now or never! I give them 6 months to perfect the software, or they are done!

We seem to have some happy Gravity owners. But it seems to be extremely consistent that vehicle reviewers run into problems with their review vehicle. I can't think of a review of a production Gravity that doesn't note the software problems.

Right. I don’t know the numbers; but it isn’t 0. I have no idea if it’s a majority, minority, or anything else.

“A few helpful notes, from a fellow Lucid owner:

1. You don't need to factory reset the car; I have never done it once in my ownership. The sound issues, bluetooth, etc., if they appear, can be fixed with an infotainment reboot, similar to on Tesla - hold the brake, X, and microphone buttons at the same time for 10 seconds or so. Takes about 30 seconds.

2. You don't need to switch profiles to reset the seat/wheel/mirrors if one of them doesn't automatically adjust. You can simply hit the 'restore' button in whichever setting you're adjusting. Much faster than switching profiles.

3. There are two bluetooth connections the car maintains; one for the mobile key, named Lucid-XXXXX where the last 5 characters are the last 5 of your VIN, and Lucid Air XXX where the last 3 are the last 3 of your VIN. The latter is for intotainment, the former is for mobile key. You don't need to carry your keycard around, you just need to make sure that Bluetooth is connected (and it should be).

4. I suspect the factory resets are hurting more than helping; like I said, I've literally never done one. I worry that customer care (or someone) told you to do a reset and you assumed it was a factory reset, when they meant an infotainment reboot.

5. You don't have to use your phone app to unlock or lock the car; in fact, if you do, this uses cellular, not Bluetooth. Proximity sensing works solely via Bluetooth. The way to get the car to lock or unlock, assuming a key is present, is simply to press in the door handle. If the car is locked and a key is present, it will unlock. If it is unlocked and a key is present, it will lock.

6. For EA PnC, did you add the 'lucid charging plan' addon to your account and add a credit card? Mine hasn't failed in over two years. Much of the rest of your issues, I suspect, may be related to being on an old version of software for so long. Is it still performing that way today?

The car definitely has software bugs, but I don't run into nearly as many of them as you did here, so I wonder if it's still doing the same on the latest software. Thanks for your thoughts!”

And this totally dismisses the Model Y, which is by far the best selling midsize EV anywhere.

True. I’m not looking at an Air either. My comment was more of a general comment about Lucid’s issues. Case in point from today: https://lucidowners.com/threads/my-gravity-bricked-after-3-weeks-of-ownership.14301/

Now imagine that with 3 kids at 10pm at night on a road trip home , in the winter in thr pouring rain or snow.

It’s just not worth the risk for many prospective owners. For families, right now, the risk / reward calculation is just simply foolish. All the time and energy should be put to better use.

I love the idea of the Gravity. But it’s just simply not ready for family prime time. That is an undeniable fact based on all the evidence.

And what’s even more worrying as a prospective buyer is that people are reporting that Air is having some crazy software issue yet the air has been out for 5 years. Obviously software gets updated, but there is clearly something fundamentally wrong with something. And they need to figure it out.

Luckily (for you), EE didn't write a review about your wife. And luckily (for you again), there is only one copy of your wife and no company's future depends on her software quality.

How could she possibly reach such a conclusion based on just viewing a prototype? Did she drive it? Has she driven a Gravity?

Yes, Gravity UI software is a mess. But so much else about the car is downright astonishing.

It has more room in all three rows than our Honda Odyssey, despite being a smaller overall package. The materials quality is superb. The structure of the car is rock solid. The handling dynamics are almost unbelievable with the Dynamic Handling Package (something even a skeptical Edmunds reviewer called "from another planet"). The power runs with the big boys. It has the braking distance of much smaller and lighter cars. The seats are wonderful in terms of adjustment range, comfort, and style. The UX design (as opposed to UI execution) is the best I've ever seen. The cabin is as quiet as a tomb on most road surfaces. The sound system is world class.

The Earth might derive some benefits in handling dynamics and efficiency over the Gravity due to its smaller size and weight, but I seriously doubt it's going to be "much better" than the Gravity in the majority of its characteristics, especially since it's going to be at a much lower price point.

I just did a road trip to SF and back. Driving and charging I don't think anything else competes on the market, the charging experience (I use solely Tesla now) has been flawless. The software is just a hot mess of weird and random errors \ bugs but nothing is a dealbreaker, it's just beyond frustrating with how long Lucid is taking to get these little bugs under control. Comes down to your patience levels I guess.
