Engineering Explained. This is bad.

Do us all a favor and knock it off. Seriously. This thread is going nowhere fast. Locking it if this continues.

Meanwhile, please read the guidelines and abide by them. Calling people names, which was your original post where this all started, is not okay.

Disagreement is welcome. Disrespect is not.
Does that mean that you'll delete 9point81 comment that calls me names? No? Why not?

That’s not name calling.

If he had said you’re a sour jerk, you’d have a point.

I would say that I’m not a fan of people suggesting others leave, though. So that much is fair.

@9point81 please refrain from that in the future.

Locking this thread now, because it’s been completely hijacked.

Reopening this thread, now that there's been some agreement to keep it on topic. It is an important topic, after all.

In that spirit, since I haven't commented on this video yet:

I have nothing but respect for Engineering Explained. Love his content.

I do think many of his issues boil down to someone giving him the very bad advice to do factory resets that were likely extremely counterproductive.

I would recommend NEVER doing a factory reset unless it's a true last resort recommended by a Lucid service rep. It not only erases all your personal settings; it sets the car back to its original software version, which then leads to all sorts of issues trying to get it back up to date.

All of his comments on profiles are spot on, and I share his frustration with that entire part of the software. As far his other bugs; I haven't experienced anything like his many issues in a few years. Which again leads me to think bringing the car back to an older factory reset is wreaking havoc on his entire system.

At the same time, I do think his experience is not anywhere near my own experience with the car. So I'd hate for folks to think his issues are "the norm." Because they are not.

And I think he'd do well as a forum member here, where he'd learn things such as pressing in the handles when the car spontaneously locks on you. (No need to take out the phone and try to use the app to let you in.) Or learning to ignore the "No Key Detected" message, as it's a phantom warning that never amounts to anything.

But he's a straight shooter, and he has a right to complain as a customer who paid for the car with his own money. I hope Lucid takes what he had to say in stride.

We'd all be kidding ourselves to think Lucid's software couldn't be better.

@borski and @joec . I think it's useless to engage people that seems to have certain narrative. If I were you; I will just ignore them unless they say something truly out of line because all engaging them does is helping their narrative. Maybe people should be blocked from posting in a thread if they keep going off topic even after warning.

What? I received one of the first Air DEs in January of 2022. Cars haven’t even been on the road four years.
You are right. That’s on me. Bad math. Brain fart, thought I had a 2020 but the taycan is a 2020. Looks like the first delivery was Oct 21. So probably 6-8 years in the making (maybe more). I still stand by my point though. Time is slipping and pretty soon they won’t be the new kid on the block. And many early adopters could have predicted some of these blowups years ago. Appreciate the correction though!

Correct. October 30, 2021. So yes, some Airs have been around more than four years.

I think Lucid is definitely getting old enough to stop using being the "new guy" as an excuse. The software should be better by now; full stop. I personally see far fewer bugs than a lot of folks who report here. And I know they dug themselves a pretty deep hole by starting over with Gravity, which was the right choice long term, but short term caused even more problems. But it's just not getting better enough fast enough to cut it right now.

More than anything, I think Lucid's lack of communication often leads many of us feeling like no one at Lucid is sufficiently angry about the state of affairs. I don't know about anyone else, but I'd certainly feel a lot better if I knew someone was flipping desks over there after watching this video.

Not that they can come out and say that. But if we had an indication that they took it as seriously as we all do…

That's my two cents, anyway. I've been writing software long enough to cut this team a LOT of slack. I would never imply any of what they are doing is easy, because it's not. And many other car companies are proving to have the same issues, frankly. (Rented a Mercedes EQE last week, and its software was a disaster.)

But there comes a time when you need to stop making excuses and just deliver.

I don't think Lucid is "doomed" by any means. But a little kick in the pants wouldn't be such a bad thing right about now.

It seems that there is a response from Lucid on his video:

Hi Jason, it’s Nick Twork, VP of Communications at Lucid. I understand the frustration. We’ve made recent changes across our software and engineering teams that are intended to address some of these issues. Improving the experience quickly is a top priority.

It would've been nice if instead of waiting for a negative review and reacting, they should've announced that (with some more details) earlier.

Agreed.

@nicktwork has also responded on Facebook groups in the past, fwiw, and exists here as well.

I do hope they formulate a proper response at some point. And I agree it would be better to do it proactively.

Aside: I really, really like Nick.

100% agree. This seems like the hurry up, damage control response. Would love to know a little more details behind what they plan to do with their new talent and areas they are trying to address. A rough timeline would be *chefs kiss*.

Posted this on the YT video earlier today:

“A few helpful notes, from a fellow Lucid owner:

1. You don't need to factory reset the car; I have never done it once in my ownership. The sound issues, bluetooth, etc., if they appear, can be fixed with an infotainment reboot, similar to on Tesla - hold the brake, X, and microphone buttons at the same time for 10 seconds or so. Takes about 30 seconds.

2. You don't need to switch profiles to reset the seat/wheel/mirrors if one of them doesn't automatically adjust. You can simply hit the 'restore' button in whichever setting you're adjusting. Much faster than switching profiles.

3. There are two bluetooth connections the car maintains; one for the mobile key, named Lucid-XXXXX where the last 5 characters are the last 5 of your VIN, and Lucid Air XXX where the last 3 are the last 3 of your VIN. The latter is for intotainment, the former is for mobile key. You don't need to carry your keycard around, you just need to make sure that Bluetooth is connected (and it should be).

4. I suspect the factory resets are hurting more than helping; like I said, I've literally never done one. I worry that customer care (or someone) told you to do a reset and you assumed it was a factory reset, when they meant an infotainment reboot.

5. You don't have to use your phone app to unlock or lock the car; in fact, if you do, this uses cellular, not Bluetooth. Proximity sensing works solely via Bluetooth. The way to get the car to lock or unlock, assuming a key is present, is simply to press in the door handle. If the car is locked and a key is present, it will unlock. If it is unlocked and a key is present, it will lock.

6. For EA PnC, did you add the 'lucid charging plan' addon to your account and add a credit card? Mine hasn't failed in over two years. Much of the rest of your issues, I suspect, may be related to being on an old version of software for so long. Is it still performing that way today?

The car definitely has software bugs, but I don't run into nearly as many of them as you did here, so I wonder if it's still doing the same on the latest software. Thanks for your thoughts!”
Point 2: I have same issue, restore button shows up when i hit it, it will just move a mm and stop. I have to switch profile to get it working. Spoke with SA and was said software bug and he can do nothing except to make a note and no update from Lucid even after 4 months.

Ah, to be an influencer with 4 million followers - that gets someone’s attention. Regular folks can pound sand with your issues and concerns. To be fair, this isn’t unique to Lucid, but it is extra frustrating if you aren’t a “content creator”.

If this is the seat, you need seat homing done by service. If you keep hitting restore, it will move an inch closer. If you keep hitting it, it will eventually get there.

But this is not the same issue - speak with service again, and tell them you need the seat homing procedure performed. Takes 5 min. Mobile can do it.

My biggest gripe with the video was that he should have been more careful by stating that at least some of his issues were (or at least might have been) unique to his car. I could have just as easily posted a video stating my 20,000+ miles of ownership have been as trouble-free as any car I’ve ever owned and indicative of the trouble-free cars Lucid builds. In my case it’s true, but I’d never state something as misleading as that because I know many owners do have issues…and many don’t.

Something I found interesting was that he seemed to think that switching profiles while driving was something most cars do. Not in my experience. Most cars I’ve owned didn’t do that, including my wife’s current BMW i5. Even my wife laughed at that while watching. I also thought amid some of his serious issues, he also did a lot of nitpicking. Certainly some of these gripes should have been picked up in a test drive or at least some minimal research.

Kudos to Borski for an intelligent (and helpful) response to the video.

I have a different issue. Every so often the car won’t adjust my seat. I go to the seat section and the restore button is greyed out. There’s times I even make a fake change to the seat and the restore button stays gray. I have to adjust it manually when this happens

Are you in park? The restore button is greyed out when it’s in gear.
