Aero inserts on the 20/21s

The 20/21" aero blades pop out individually but the 21/22 's it's all one pinwheel that snaps on (or maybe flys off?)

The 20/21s don't just pop out, they have bolts holding them in that can only be accessed through the back of the wheel. (it you look at that pic you can see the bolt holes on the inside ridge where the insert was removed)

The 21/22s are just removable and clip in.

Correct. I have a service appt to remove my 20/21” aero covers (which they do complimentary for any delivery).

do they still damage the wheels? I only had 1000ish miles on my Air when i did the appearance kit, and the wheels were damaged from the caps all the way around the lip and on the spokes too

I've seen that but was amazed when the SA just grabbed that one with his hand and popped it out at HQ yesterday. Perhaps they have the torx bolts removed on the showroom display for demonstration purposes

That's probably the case

We don't know yet, but they are designed differently.

Can confirm that removal of aero inserts on 20/21 Gravity (by service center ) may cause similar markings on the clear coat of the aero wheels as we see on Air.

SA said any Detailer can buff them out easily. May try this.

Also, removing the aero inserts on the 20/21 wheels makes them really pop and it gives the GGT a much more aggressive stance - even at standard height - than with the aero inserts in. This is what I was looking for.

Would you mind posting some pics after you have them removed? Thanks

Anyone have data on what the real range penalty is for removing them?

Here are some
Wider shots. Suspension is raised to high on exit as I want to make sure the doors never hit curbs. But you can get the idea.

Also, if you get Dynamic Handling, and don’t remove these inserts, you can’t even appreciate the platinum brake finishing which is really cool too.

Thanks! Good point about the platinum brakes. I don't notice any marks though... did you have them detailed?

Not yet. Here is a closeup showing the marks right when I got them removed. After I polished the wheels they faded a fair amount but you can see them if you look closely. I may not have them detailed actually. Apparently a detailer can buff them away completely.
