@drivecarreviews review from today I think.

At 5:05 he said the side cameras were ‘we’ve upgraded all of the cameras from Air so super high resolution compared to Air’.

Hmmm. That’s exactly the opposite of comments I’m seeing about low res cameras in Gravity. Is this a software issue or reality?

Side view 'blinker cam/blind spot' are low resolution and somewhat disappointing, especially in low light or night. Back up camera is good.
I know right? But they are specifically referencing the blind spot cameras in the video when he says that they are all upgraded and super high resolution compared to Air. I’m totally confused by this statement. And he was the chief engineer for Gravity!

From what I have tried so far, the output was 720p, so about 1MP worth of resolution per camera or around 220mb between 4 cameras per minute.

Will test with a higher speed memory card to see if that may have been a bottle neck.

My setup is basically a USB card reader that accepts micro SD and SDXC cards, moving to 300/299mb rated (per second) pro grade SDXC card.

720p seems about right to me. Certain not ‘super high resolution’ and I would say worse than the Air.

It’s possible it’s USB speed dependent or not fully enabled. Beta and all.

I will be testing with a 300MB read:write capable device.

It’s funny how much stuff they get wrong about customers. That touchpad on the steering wheel-immediately confuses the driver, doesn’t work well. Or the notion that after you adjust your seat you’d always want to adjust the steering wheel. It makes sense to an engineer sure but a good UX designer would override some of these. Maybe that explains some of the confusing decisions Lucid makes, too heavy on engineering vs actual usability. Reminds me of that car Homer designed lol

Thats interesting, as part of my HQ tour last year, I got to try out the Gravity "buck" (the hardware they use to fine tune UX and usability) and I preferred the touchpads on the steering wheel to basically every car I have owned in the past, including the Air. I am sure this comes down to a matter of preference, but I was thoroughly happy with the integration.

Granted I spent about an hour in the buck, and have only driven the gravity for ~150 miles or so in the real world.

Okay, this seems like a non issue to me (or maybe because this is the first car I have had with so many cameras). To me, the Air's camera's are fine. They get the job done. They are significantly better than the cameras in my 2015 Honda. The end.

If the Gravity's cameras are the same as those in my Air, that would not be a problem for me at all, today or even three years from now. If they are better, well that's fine. But it's just not life changing.

Am I crazy? What's the deal here?

I agree with you, I have no issues with the camera quality on my Air either. I wish they were in a place where I could see the blind spot camera feed better, currently, I have to duck down to look under the steering wheel. Oh, and the SW performance of the cameras triggering sometimes lags, but it is miles better than it was even 6 months ago.

My complaints are minor, and in no way dissuade me from recommending the car to literally everyone I speak to.

I'm skeptical about the 720p aspect. I have a Kenwood 720p rear camera (CMOS-740HD connected to their DMX1037S) in my Jeep. There's absolutely no comparison in quality between the two - the Kenwood one is much better than the cameras in the Gravities I've driven. If they really are 720p cameras there's something very wrong in the software/video stream (unsurprising though).

The issue is not with the Air. Most sentiment is that Gravity’s blind spot cameras are LOW res, and worse than Airs. In fact some reviewers have made that a major criticism. But this chief engineer says they are better. So I’m wondering if maybe a software issue has limited the resolution.

I find the blind spot cameras to provide a wider FOV than I can see with a properly adjusted mirror. I can see straight behind the car as well as farther to the side, which is great.

The negative is that the framerate and resolution of the blind spot feed is surprisingly bad for a 2026 car, in addition to feeling sluggish and laggy.

In the end, slow framerate and all, the blind spot cameras achieve what they set out to do - give me more confidence when changing lanes and practicing defensive driving. I do wish the physical mirrors were bigger, but I understand and appreciate that slim mirrors minimize frontal area, Cd, wind noise, turbulence, etc.

As the owner of two Teslas from 2020 to 2025, I recall a year or two into my ownership there was a significant software update that made the formally lower frame rate cameras all of a sudden becomes silky smooth. I’m still holding out. Hope that there will be a major update in the future where we’ll get the same in the Air (and Gravity).

I complained about the camera quality in the Gravity compared to what I had in the Air. The service center checked and said “ nothing wrong with them”. Hopefully a software update makes the video feed clearer in the future.

Yeah the camera display quality in the Air was vastly superior to what we have now in the Gravity. The backup camera is unusable in the dark unless your foot is on the brake which then barely casts enough light. It must be a software issue where when they try to up the resolution in the display it breaks other things. So I REALLY hope these cameras can at least get to the same quality I already had in my Air GT.

When I test drove a Gravity, I immediately noticed that the turn cameras seemed blurry compared to my Air. My salesperson said that Gravity's cams were actually higher resolution than the Air's.

If that is true, the dash feed must be using a lower-res substream from the side cams. There's no way IMO that Gravity's camera dash display is even equivalent to the Air's.

This is exactly what I think as well. It seems there could be a fix in future update, as opposed to it being hardware limited, which wouldn't make sense in a new model vehicle.

I think contrast is a huge issue at night. The cameras are just too “dark”. If you could adjust contrast, it would be much better - even in lower res.
