Hola from Virginia, USA - New GGT owner - some thoughts on towing

Hi All,

Took ownership of a new 2026 GGT (opted for 20/21" wheels for efficiency, Aurora Green, Yossemite PurLuxe, Stealth, Tech package, 7 seat, DD2Pro, SSPro, Comfort and Conv, Dynamic Handling, Tech, Power Package, Towing) - Also driving a Tesla Model X, Y and a Taycan GTS so we are a 100% EV family.

Towed the boat last few days and I do miss the following:

1. Rear view camera being always on. That is what I miss the most from he Model X - The ability to view the hitch and the boat on the big screen at all speeds - GGT cuts the rear cam off at 16mph - Wish they would release a new update addressing this for people that use it for towing
2. Efficiency as expected is cut in half but all the boat ramps are max 15-20 miles max away so not driving long distances
3. The vehicle pulls a 5k pound boat beautifully. Much better than the Model X
4. The hitch sits much lower than the model X so I need to get one with a much higher rise.

Over all a happy customer apart from the occasional "key not detected" and no CarPlay or a Phone key - Sound System is lacking compared to the model X/Y - HUD is 5/10. The HUD on the Porsche is super sharp and works at all seat heights but on the GGT it goes out of focus or dims quickly depending on how one is seated.

I wasn't aware they had activated towing yet - last I heard (6 weeks ago) they were still waiting for an update. Is your towing activated? Did it cut your mileage in half, or by 60%, or about how much (I'm planning on towing a car on an open trailer, about 4000 lbs total and similar wind resistance to a boat, but some of my tows are about 300 miles and I might try to tow 400 miles, all highway). Obviously the fast charging is a positive factor for towing greater than the vehicle's range.

Towing works great and is activated. Towing the boat I get around 1.65 mile/kw so yeah expect half of the rated mileage - My towing distances are relatively short but I think you will be pleasantly surprised how easy and effortless the towing experience is. Good luck

Did you have any issues hooking up the safety chains? A friend found the holes were a bit small, so I'm curious.

I had extensions handy that fit in those holes. The holes are smallish on the Teslas too so I had a pair laying around

I have a Dream Edition which is supposed to have Tow Mode by default, but I don’t see the Tow Mode. Customer service tried to tell me that I had to insert the hitch receiver to activate it, which I did, and I still don’t see Tow Mode. I also don’t see “Attachment Optimization” under Dream Drive. Is Tow Mode on your home pilot screen by default?

I got tow mode and hitch is in a bag. V3.3.5

Yep. It's on my pilot screen since the software update. I haven't installed the hitch at all and it's sat in my garage since I got the Gravity. It should be right next to your Sprint mode button on the vehicle Home Screen.

I do see “Trailer Assist” on the Lucid app menu. My car is running 3.3.8. I have not plugged anything into the harness yet, as I don’t own a trailer. However, shouldn’t “Attachement Optimization” be available if I attach the hitch receiver?

Yes, it should. You need to have service take a look at your car’s configuration.

A Tech from the Roswell, GA SC finally called me today to tell me to bring it in. He said Tow Mode should be appearing on the pilot screen.

Hi from Germany, we are very interested in the towing system and would be happy to learn more about the details, e.g. when you have your trailer hooked and you go in reverse, does Lucid Gravity offer a trailer assist similar to Mercedes or Volkswagen where you point on your navigation screen (camera) the direction you want to go and the car "translates" this so that you don’t have to do all the thinking about how to avoid jackknife effect etc.
Anyone with experience in going reverse with a trailer?

That is not supported. We get guidelines but no assist. Been trailering for a while so don’t really need the assistance but would be nice to have

Thanks for the info mickey6, much appreciated! In Germany many young families started buying camping trailers after corona, and they are very tech savvy so for them such a gimmick would be definitely interesting
