Can't adjust ride height when doors are open (feature request, I guess)

Not a bug since this is clearly intentional, but we were frustrated that ride height adjustments are "greyed out" when a door is open.

We got in our Gravity the other evening and I couldn't close the passenger-side front door because it was wedged against the sidewalk from the weight of people getting in after the door was opened. We all had to get out in order to close the door and adjust the ride height, and it scuffed the trim on the bottom of the door.

Seems like an oversight.

A case where you would not want this: You are parked next to a slightly raised curb/sidewalk, you door clears the curb/sidewalk when you open it. Then you lower the car while leaving door open and the door comes down on the curb/sidewalk - just F—ed up your door.

well, sure, but that's basically what just happened to me by having people get in the car. How about... you can always raise the ride height with the door open?

While there are potential problems with lowering the ride height with a door open, there's also an obvious use case: a person with poor mobility trying to get in or out of the car, starts but then struggles. Lowering the car a little at this point could help. Like a public bus that lowers for people getting on or off, while the door is open.

Our Model X and Mercedes GLS also halts height adjustment until side doors are closed. Tailgate open seems ok.
Perhaps a safety issue or requirement ?
I agree that your example use case is important and valid problem, will be interesting to see if lucid can offer a solution, like a warning and permission to continue etc.

They should definitely change this setting. Had it happen once to me too where the door opened fine but couldn't close back up bc of additional weight and hitting the curb.

There is a setting in easy entry and exit to lower the vehicle, for precisely this purpose.

You just have to be careful (and it warns you) not to do it on a curb or similar.

I set my Easy Entry suspension setting to High for that reason. Plus the Gravity is already so low to the ground it’s actually harder for me to get out of the car in the low setting than High. Compared to something like the Rivian where the “Kneel” setting is still too tall for most people I initially set the setting to Low but discovered that 1) I didn’t like it and 2) The door almost hits the high curb at my kids’ school drop off.

Yesssss- yesterday my kid openeed his door and it caught on a root on the tree lawn, I needed to lift the car and couldnt

I’ve lost count of the number of times my kids have almost opened the door into a curb on “standard”. The Gravity is low no matter what. And I like that for driving and generally getting in and out. Just let us adjust whenever and give us a warning. That would be good.

I think an issue is it does adjust based on load - so in order for it not to go crazy as people get in and out, they freeze the height. That’s my guess.

Thankfully my wife, who has mobility issues, can get in on standard height. I turned off the lower setting in the vehicle settings and that higher setting lets car stay at standard height by default… less risk of curb hang ups… also could have a max height while inparking lots for speed bump clearance and parking block avoidance.

In our case… person with mobility issues starts to get in and then cant close the door as it is wedged over curb… stressing hinges and requiring mobility challenged person to get out of car and shut door, wait outside for driver to raise car to try again. Should always be able to raise car also with app so if I am assisting person getting into car I can raise it if door is stuck.Not letting the car raise with doors open is wrong headed.

I have no idea why car height is an option in the app. It has never worked for me. Whether I am standing next to the car or farther away, it always says “vehicle too far”….

I have been able to get it to work in the app on occasion.

I need to double check but pretty sure my 2024 RR continues to lower automatically even when you open the door. I understand how this could be an issue but *knock on wood* it's never been a problem. With the Gravity being so low, I understand the concern.

In general, ingress and egress with the Gravity is a little more cumbersome. For example, what I assume is due to the need for the window to lower slightly, opening the doors doesn't feel smooth or luxurious. It's jerky. Air is better but doesn't have the window issue.

It is evident that the Gravity was seriously over engineered. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
