I picked up my Gravity yesterday morning and discovered by yesterday afternoon the car won't recognize my key card. The Key card does unlock the door but no matter how I orient it or tap it it won't allow the car to drive. I've done two reboots of the car with no luck. Mobile key doesn't work either. In checking my phones bluetooth list, one of the Bluetooths shows connected and the other not connected. Apparently the door lock and media bluetooth is fine and the other one is inoperable. Key FOB works fine thank goodness.

That reminds me . . . has any GDE owner received their second key fob yet? Our Gravity was delivered over two and a half months ago and still nothing.

I'm not sure your experience is turning out to be any better.

I've reconciled myself (at least at times) to the fact that our Gravity is going to have to be more or less rebuilt in Service Centers since not much inspection appears to have been done at the factory of before delivery due, I suspect, to haste to make Q2 numbers. (Ours was delivered on June 30.)

And my feelings about taking delivery of our second Gravity -- which appears poised to arrive right at the end of Q3 -- are mixed at best. Part of me wants that one to get here so that we at least have one to drive for a while . . . and maybe even one we're comfortable taking on a road trip. But part of me dreads where we'll be if the second one is the same hot mess as the first.

Our navigation system wasn't working when our car was shipped. ADAS features based on GPS location also were not working. There were visible defects in the HUD screen that resulted in ghosts dancing across the windshield. Your phone charger is not working. Cars were shipped with Homelink modules either not installed or not working. Et cetera.

Lucid needs to do functional checks on these cars either at the factory or during PDI at the Service Centers before putting these cars into customers' hands. Relying on customers to find out what is or is not working not only incurs costs to transport the cars back to Service Centers and leaves the owners without their cars, often for extended periods with use of loaners or rental cars, but it also contributes to a reputation for poor quality and reliability.

I just don't get any of this. I can hardly think of a less efficient way to run a production and service operation.

Yup, this was a hardware defect.

Your phone charger is not working.

Known issue that is resolved, having to do with the final assembly where the wire got pinched.

Cars were shipped with Homelink modules either not installed or not working. Et cetera.

They were installed, just not activated / software needed to be flashed on.

These all went through rigorous inspection, but some things are always missed with a new vehicle; the nice part is that these will be resolved for future deliveries.

I'm not sure just how rigorous the inspections were if a HUD unit with a very visible bubble on the screen was not noticed upon incoming inspection from the vendor, during assembly, during post-production inspection (where the ghosts dancing across the windshield would have been noticed on the outdoor inspection circuit), or during PDI at a service center.

…maybe. Things happen over time. I’m not saying it shouldn’t have been checked, but “does GPS work” was almost certainly not on the final PDI checklist before you, most likely because there was no suspicion it would fail. That’s also why it likely took them longer to resolve the issue - they didn’t know what it was.

I would make a fairly expensive bet that it’s on the PDI checklist now, you know?

So… I just got your ghost today. We don’t have a bubble, but the reflection exists: I never drive the car in the mornings, so I’ve never seen it. But I drove it this morning and sure enough, it was annoying af.

So it’s entirely possible they saw the ghost and assumed it was the normal sun-driven ghost, or they didn’t because they drove it at an hour that wasn’t in the morning, etc.

I agree the bubble should have been noticed, but again, I have no idea what the process looked like, how the bubble formed, etc.

So… I just got your ghost today. We don’t have a bubble, but the reflection exists: I never drive the car in the mornings, so I’ve never seen it. But I drove it this morning and sure enough, it was annoying af.

The ghost was visible in our car if there was any ambient light coming through the windshield, even if the car was under a roof. Here's a shot taken when the car was inside our garage in dim light:

BTW, the blue oval that we once often saw from any seating position is no longer visible with the new HUD unit. However, we still have it but only when sitting it an abnormally low position in the driver seat -- the same place several other posters have seen it. I think that oval results from the designed curvature of the screen, but it is not intrusive as far as I can tell in any reasonable driving or passenger position.

Hm, the blue oval is what I’m talking about. I do sit in the lowest position in the Gravity. Perhaps I should try raising my seat. I’m also going to try a matte screen protector.

But yeah, I hadn’t seen it because I don’t typically drive when the sun is at that angle.

If you’re sitting at the lowest position, does the HUD ever get difficult to see?

I’ve noticed if I’m sitting too low or if HUD is set too low, the sharpness gets a little distorted. So I end up sitting higher than usual (I’m 5’9”).

There’s basically a small window on the windshield where the HUD doesn’t bother my eyes. If I sit too low then I have to raise the HUD way too high.

Although I don’t have that ghost, if I’m driving at the right direction with the sun shining, I do get this small blue reflection. I think that’s what you see as well.

The screen protector gets rid of the reflction, but in the same token, dims the actual hud info quite a bit.

This is the same in mine... There is a small "sweet spot" for clarity on the HUD. I've been able to move it around to the sweet spot with the adjustment ability in the latest software, however, I find that the sweet spot is DIRECTLY in my driving line of sight and can become a bit distracting. I prefer to have the display project lower on the windshield/road...but at that height, the projected image is a bit more distorted.

I’m also 5’9”. I can see the HUD at the lowest position. I haven’t really seen any distortion, though it does bump around a little if I’m on a bumpy road.

Interesting - I’ll have to pay more attention to this and play with it
