BMW Earth competition

I just looked through the iX3 pictures that Motortrend has in their article. Oddly, the pictures make it appear that the 2nd row folds down, but not very flat at all. If true, that'd be a very annoying aspect of the vehicle for those of us who typically don't have 2nd row passengers. In my current vehicle, I have at least one half of my second row down more than 80% of the time.

To me, this looks much better!

Obviously a competitor to Earth not Gravity. The Germans are slowly approaching 4 mi/kwh as Lucid will probably be closer to 6 mi/kwh with Earth.
Lucid seems to have lost its way with production of Gravity and Earth is about a year or two behind R2 it is a grim picture.

They did for a while. It seems the production delays may be mostly behind them.

I don't believe it competes with the Gravity, because at this point it was hinted that it will be a much smaller size SUV. For those who want a small SUV, they would not consider a Gravity to begin with. BMW is also coming out with a small sedan based on the same architecture. That will definitely compete with the Earth and this neaue klasse sedan coming out in early 2027 is a car that I also will be looking at.
Yup, I’ll be looking closely at the Neue Klasse sedan too.

That same article also states:

Midsize timeline. Lucid is due to start production by the end of 2026 of its first midsize SUV model. The platform also reportedly will spawn a sedan and hatchback.

So Sedan and Hatchback (Hot Hatch?) in addition to SUV.

400 mile range, V2H,V2L,V2G, arriving summer 2026

I am a former BMW driver who abandoned the brand when it got too ugly. The best thing I can say for this new design is that it is less ugly but BMW designers still can't figure out how to match a front end with a performance vehicle.

Which means the sedan probably won’t arrive until 2027…assuming the midsize SUV timeframe holds.

Actually, Lucid is only 6 months behind Rivian R2. I’ve come across friends, colleagues and internet bites that say- wish Lucid would come out with a 50-60k car.

People who know the brand are aware Lucid has the best combination of luxury and tech.

More good competition is good for the EV industry, we need to cut down on pollution ICE cars.

Tesla has given up on cars, market will open up biggly!

Do not forget there will be 3 versions of the the earth ! Right ? Sedan is one of them and an SUV AND God knows the third

I hope they can give one version with extreme high range like 500miles hhhh call me crazy but I prefer high range to give me peace of mind to go any where and skip any charging

I travel long distances alot and the infrastructure in Saudi still in its infancy

I expect you won't actually see any Mid-size on the road until late 2027.

You all are nuts if you think this competes with the Mid-size. It's going to be built in Germany, Tariffed and cost more than a Gravity.
Do you know what you are talking for before calling other people nuts? This will be built in South Carolina starting next year alongside the whole range of BMW SUVs.

But if you bought a Lucid because of how they drive, don't bother with a new BMW. They were good drivers cars before 2010 but now they just pose as the Ultimate Driving Machine, they honestly have some of the worst steering feel of any car manufacturer today. If you care more about interior build and quality, yeah get the BMW.

Show me evidence that your LLM response means it will be built in USA. It's built in Hungary and tariffed, US-Spec models will be built in Hungary for 2026, and a 5-seat one with any options will be more than a Gravity Touring with 5 seats.

LLM response? I'll take that a compliment lol, not sure what makes you think that.

But yeah, I was mistaken. It is built in Hungary like you said, but I would still be surprised if it is more than a couple grand more than BMWs estimated price. They are already aware of the tariffs, and their other cars currently are all tariffed as well.

They already sell a larger EV SUV for 75k (iX) which was their flagship EV, so it doesn't make sense that you think this smaller one that has a lower place in their line up will cost more than a Gravity Touring (80k).

Mercedes GLC EQ will be also shown in a few days. The few interior shots look good (I'm a screen wh*re ... LOL). Lucid needs to get midsize out ASAP.

If BMW and Mercedes are all showing off their cars coming out next year in direct competition with Earth, Lucid can’t afford to drag its feet in announcing the car.

Here’s hoping they show something sooner rather than later. The mid-market space is heating up and Lucid really needs to secure a slice of that pie when they’re going to be late to market compared to the competition.

All true but still overall a positive for EV’s in general wider acceptance here in USA
The Lucid will be competitive I imagine in the
Midsize space
Tesla will be the big loser

If these cars are going to come with a range of 400 miles and a charging speeds of 400kW, what will set Lucid apart? We know that the $50K variant will be quite basic in terms of standard features that Mercedes and BMW include as standard at entry level. Lucid also lacks well established service networks and doesn’t have a good track record at launching new models quickly, with months-long supply chain delays, and so on.

IF their claims are true at that price point they're promoting, Lucid will undoubtedly face significant challenges. I thought the Germans were dead in the EV race but seems they’re starting to fight back.

The 2026 Cayenne EV is also said to be capable of 400kW charging, though range is TBD and at a comparable or higher price than Gravity.

Price point is the key issue for midsize
I’ve owned 4 Mercedes (GLK’s, E class)
If you want them well equipped especially Leather, lighting pkgs, better radio, tech pkg’s , etc. expect to pay 50% more than MSRP
