Not working Tesla wall charger but works with Tesla EVSE

Of course, the advantage of the older wall charges are the 80amp capability, which I think it's gone with the 3rd gen and newer. Older Teslas have dual chargers that can take advantage of 80amps, which was what I was hoping the Gravity can do.

Won't work yet but if I was buying I'd look for one rated for 1000v and 500a such as

Definitely avoid non-US, no-name adapters. Get one from your car's manufacturer, Lectron, or A2Z.

I tried the Air at a Tesla Supercharger a couple months ago after Gravity was already enabled. My Air would not charge. Our Volvo, using the same adapter, did. We have to wait until Lucid and Tesla turn it on for the Air.
Yes. That is what I thought. I might also consider the Amphenol U/L certified if it works for Lucid.

Electrically, they are all the same. The differences are in construction details like conductor size, the latching mechanism, overtemp protection, etc.
I have not seen the Amphenol product available at retail yet.

I can’t remember who, but in Delivery thread, someone used a Tesla V3 SC with their new Gravity and there was no issue. It IS supposed to be plug n charge or whatever - nothing to do in Tesla app.

For our R1S, it’s plug n play on SCs using the Rivian adapter and the account charge comes via the Rivian app - nothing to do with the Tesla app.

Plug & charge works for me after contacting my SA on first day that it didn't work. He said the software guys did something, and now plug and charge works fine.

When it was NOT working, I could get it to charge by using a credit card on the V4 station. Most likely a communication issue with my setup, and the software guys fixed it.

I had my first brief charging session last night (finally got below 80%--the car was delivered to me at 100%) and can confirm that my newly installed Tesla Universal Charger worked perfectly to charge my DE from 78% to 80%! It started charging instantly and at the max rate of that EVSE (48A/11-12kW). I figured I'd add pics and videos for everyone's viewing pleasure. It has quite a light show while charging!

That's really cool but, uh, can you turn it off? I'm not sure I really need a nuisance in my driveway when I'm charging at night...

The light display turns off automatically after less than a minute.

Mine was the Gen2, so it's the older one. I have to go in and change the Amperage via the dial, and communications via the dip switch (which you don't have to, I confirmed it works in Tesla/standard mode).

The newer 3rd Gen and Universal are WiFi capable, so you can do all that without opening it up. I have to shut off breaker, open, change settings, turn on breaker, test. Repeat multiple times for different settings. I see the advantage of the WiFi setup, so I'll try to install the spare Universal Wallcharger either this weekend or next.

Thank you again for sharing information on the Tesla Gen 2 Wall Charger settings. Today was my first opportunity to tackle this project since taking delivery of my Gravity Dream Edition last week. Super easy. In fact the most difficult part was locating a Torx 20 Security bit for my screwdriver so I could get to the settings inside the Tesla Wall Charger -- a quick run to the hardware store and $2.17 for the bit had me in business. I, too have a 100amp circuit, and adjusted the output on the charger to 56A and voila 🎉 Worked!

I'm even more tickled that I'm adding more MPH on my Gravity than I ever did on my (now departed) Model X Plaid. Best I could get with the Plaid using the wall charger was ~30MPH. I'm pulling 41MPH with the gravity. That could have more to do with the efficiency (and range) of the Gravity calculation.

Regardless, THANK YOU for trying this first, then posting instructions. Fellowship here in the group has once again paid off. Really appreciate it.

Been trying to test out all charging options with Tesla.

Went to a V3 supercharger, plug connector in, charges for like 2 seconds, then stopped. Screen says require an extra step, I’m not sure what that extra step is. I thought everything is plug and charge. Will ping my SA tomorrow and see.

Testing @ home. Tesla gen 2 wall charger. 100amp circuit. Wall charger charges my 3 other Teslas fine. Charges the Porsche Taycan fine with J1777 adaptor. Plug into Gravity, no clicks, charge cable does not lock (just like when @ v3 Supercharger). Starts flashing red LEDs, screen says problem charging, try replacing. Tesla wall charger flashing red LED. Unplug (again, not locked). Few seconds later, Tesla wall charger goes to GREEN status. Decided to just plug in my Tesla EVSE, I have an 14-50 outlet coming out of the same circuit (for occasions just like this, pad in the back for thinking ahead). Plug into Gravity, I hear cable lock, then starts charging. Get about 9-10kW out of the EVSE, I usually get 11kW out of the wall charger, but that’s fine.

Anybody have any insight? I also have a new universal wall charger, I was thinking of installing it (got it free from Porsche), but don’t want to waste time if it’s the same. New wallchargers have app connection, which might offer more insight into any errors. Or just stick with the EVSE since it works.

Regarding your home charger, did you configure it to allow non-tesla vehicles to charge on it? You have to use the Tesla app and change it if it isn't already.

Older Gen2 have DIP switches to change that. But I didn't have to. Work on Tesla mode. I like, and prefer to keep the older Gen2s because it can do 100amps, the new ones are max out at 48As.
