Gravity Plan B

I did some work on mine by wrapping the 5 smaller spokes and the lower section with carbon fiber looking tape on the lower section and now I am happy with it.
This is one of the most beautiful mods to the 19" wheels and lower section I have ever seen. Goes especially well with the Fathom Blue. Well done!
 
Trust me, I've looked at a number of options for short term leases until Lucid could get its act together. I had rounded it down to the Polestar 3 and R1S but each had cons that I didn't want to be stuck with on a 2 or 3 year lease.
Please elaborate on the P3. I was considering that too but wasn’t wild about my prior Volvo XC90 experience in so far as service issues.
 
I’m 100% on fence over the Cadillac Vistiq; it’s ride and turn radius are amazing but range concerning although they say has NACS Adapter. How is a NACS Adapter any worse than actual NACS? They claim gets same charge time w/adapter. And the incentives would knock $10K off the max $99K platinum cost.

I personally wouldn't ding it for needing a NACS adapter. It doesn't seem that big a deal to have to plug in the adapter. My principle reason for not considering the Vistiq is primarily the much lower range compared to the Gravity. It seems the Gravity Touring is expected to have lower range, but probably still quite a bit more than the Vistiq. Add in the longer length and more weight but less cargo volume, and Car and Driver characterizing it as having "steering that's largely devoid of feel", and it's not the driver's car that the Gravity is. On the flip side, it has Super Cruise, which is quite good. If I was shopping for a price-competitive vehicle to the Vistiq, I'd be very tempted to wait for the Gravity Touring to become available.

I thought long and hard about the Vistiq too. Very nice quality alternative. We test drove one just to compare to Escalade and Gravity a few weeks ago and my wife almost ended up trading in her EV9 for it!😂 Had to drag her out of there quick! It seriously is a very nice ride but the reduced range, we road trip a lot, and no chance at Carplay or Android Auto and it's less impressive performance features just puts it behind the Gravity for me, but I certainly think it's an outstanding second choice for 3 row SUV.

I'm getting tired of the interminable wait for Gravity. I've been in this since day 1, and I have a DE order as well, but still I just wait and wait with no real rhyme or reason to how cars are being delivered. I'm scared of the key fob issues and what seem like the penalties of early adoption. In the meantime, I can get a short-term lease on an R1S while the tax credit still exists and wait for Gravity discounting to start and some of the initial production mess to settle out. R1S now has native NACS (helps me since my home charging is already NACS and I plan to hold my Tesla S) and can supercharge at Tesla too. Not as fast as Gravity, of course, but likely faster than my current Tesla. One of the reasons I wanted Gravity was for car camping, and summer is slipping by and opportunities to do some car camping are slipping with it, and camp mode is not available in Gravity yet. I'm sure an R1S is not as amazing as a fully-functional Gravity would be, but my risk of getting a less-than-fully-functional Gravity seems non-trivial, and I don’t even know when I’d get mine anyways.

I thought NACS on the R1S was for the 2026 model year. My neighbor just bought a 2025 a couple weeks ago with CCS. Did he miss out on buying a 2026?

Probably obvious, but to me the decision might hinge on how comfortable you are with the early-year costs of a vehicle. The R1S is a great SUV, and I imagine you'd be happy with it. But a short term lease on the R1S followed by acquiring a Gravity does mean a couple more years of maximally high vehicle expenses, with the tax credit won't put much dent in. If you're a person that doesn't mind the expense, and likes the excitement of a new vehicle, then go for it.

This is exactly what I did. I've been eyeing Gravity for so long, but at this point I am not ready to be an early adopter again like I was with my Air. I've had my Rivian for 2 months and it fits the bill for what I need. No software issues. Ride is improved (certainly not as good as Gravity, but I can get by with it). Very happy with the Rivian for now and will revisit Gravity in the future.

But other "expenses" like repairs should be all under warranty, so I'm not 100% sure I'm following you. And I'm going to eat a lot buying a new Gravity while it is at its highest price attainment. Saving myself from that could be worth $5-10K in future discounts.

Rivian switched to NACS for the 2026 model year, which just got released.

I agree with you about vehicle expenses. When I get a Gravity I plan on keeping it a long time.
 
I have a BMW iX xDrive45 coming. The range doesn't match the Gravity, but it meets my needs: at least 300 miles range, the driver assistance is better than my Tesla, and it's fast enough for me at 5 sec 0-60. Nice to haves: it's one of the quietest cars available today per C&D, the DC area dealers were giving good discounts off MSRP, and I don't see much on the iX forums about software issues. There is a recall on drive power loss for previous model years that I'll be keeping tabs on. The Gravity looks like a great car but I needed to get the car purchase out of the way.

I just meant the high depreciation one sees in the first years of a new vehicle.
 
Lease is up on my R1S at end of August. I knew this when I ordered a GDE in November 2024 and a GGT early this year and was hopeful.

No faith either Gravity will come prior to end of August as neither is even in production. That’s fine, it’s part of the process. Just disappointed.

I DO believe I will get one by end of November, so am doing a three month extension on my R1S lease. Do folks think November is reasonable for one of these configs? Config for GDE is AG, Tahoe and 22/23. Config for GGT is black, Tahoe, 20/21 with NO HUD but everything else.

Cost sucks on R1S extension, so I am really hoping Gravity arrives by end of November. If not, I will be with @WeighingGravity and will have to get something. Don’t love any of the choices mentioned here, so just burying my head in the sand and hoping for November Gravity…

I ended up doing something similar. Got a 2025 iX50 and negotiated a good lease deal with good % off MSRP and about .22% APR with base rate + max MSDs. Great vehicle but still my family unanimously prefer our Air, but it is close. I am still keeping my Gravity reservation for now but may pend it until my Air lease come due (23 more months).

Wow, I'm right there with you. I've been teetering between R1S and Gravity for months now and it's driving me crazy. I keep waiting for Gravity to "turn the corner" and for me to see a ton of "this is amazing" online reviews but so far, just a trickle.

I know you said R1S won't be as "fully functional" in general, but specifically for car camping, I'd say the R1S has a few big advantages:
-More off-road abilities (I really wish Lucid would give us some sense of Terrain mode...they tease it in every marketing video I see but yet give no real roadmap info)
-Leveling at campsites (this is pretty huge imo) and I heard though air suspension, Gravity will be unable to do this due to the way it's designed.
-Camp Mode (I have begged for info on when this coming out on Gravity and said I'd sign NDA, even sending my SA the video in which it was shown, but no information at all). Rivian's Camp Mode is mature and well thought out.
-Has real tow hitch that can support accessories (Yakima Cargo Box, e-Bike racks, etc) whereas the Gravity is SUPER disappointing in only supporting 100 pounds of accessory weight
-They just added NACS on 2026 and JUST yesterday released upgrade that all nav is based on Google Maps. Much improved navigation now.

Now, the Gravity:
-Will be way better for long road trips. So much more efficiency due to better battery management and aerodynamics and MUCH faster charging
-The space in the back for car camping is awesome. With the seats all down, with so much more headroom, I will probably do a bed platform that allows storage under it (since I can't do a cargo box on the back). I don't think I'd do this in the R1S as it'd leave so little headroom.
-Personally, I don't care about being high up and driving a truck-style vehicle. So I love the idea that the Gravity will feel more sporty (like my former Tesla m3) but still be able to do the car camping stuff, albeit with COMPROMISES. lol.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but you seemed in a very similar space as me, deciding between these two vehicles.

I have about 2-3 weeks before I MUST make a decision (still leaning Gravity) since I sold my M3 when I left the country for the Summer. I hope some new info comes out soon...or we at least see a TON of deliveries being made (without immediate complaints/breakdowns/etc.)

Now if the delivery of my order slips at all past early September, bye Lucid. I need a car but I also want the $7500 discount on the lease. ;-)

Aside from the differences you list, the BIG difference is you can get an R1S in 1-3 weeks. It’s available if you need/want it soon.

A Gravity is likely months away, at best, unless yours is in production now.

I’ve seen enough reviews and driven it. It’s amazing. I just need them to ramp production….
