Gravity Plan B

Oh, Porsche is also an alternative. I have liked the look of the Taycan and the all-new one could be interesting, especially in a Cross Turismo version. But they are small. But if Gravity drifts into 2026, the new electric Cayenne could also come into play.

Have both the R1S Quad and X Plaid, and taken both on 1,000+ mile trips. The charging disparity is huge between Rivian and Tesla, resulting in more frequent charging stops. Despite its generous interior space, Rivian charges much slower than the X. The Gravity offers space and fast charging, which I really need. Considered the Caddy IQ, but doesn't work for me as its large 200kwh battery would probably take even longer to charge than the Rivian.
The Silverado 4WT which has the same drivetrain and battery as the IQ does better in the 10% challenge than Model X (129mi vs. 120mi). It charges 84.3kWh in 15 minutes! I imagine the chances of finding chargers that reliably work at that speed would be an issue though. Also it would cost a fortune.

Whether its a lease or a purchase its a sale to Lucid and therfore revenue. In this case the vehicle is owned by the lessor which is BoA but if you chose not to buy the vehicle at the end of the lease then Lucid either has to buy it back from the lessor at the residual value to then sell \ auction or they're simply playing a role in getting the vehicle back to then send it to auction on the lessors behalf. Either way though, leases are sales.

OK, yes technically Lucid would be "selling" a Gravity to BoA, so it is a "sale".
I was referring to the more traditional consumer sale which may not reoccur with the same consumer every 24, 36, 48 months like a lease.
My point being, revenue from reoccuring leases can possibly make up for lost revenue from traditional consumer sales.

Whoever came up with the idea of car leasing, just like music/video/digital content streaming definitely realized that it is an additional way of generating revenue; a more sustainable revenue than traditional sales.

My opinion.
Pretty sure car executives have data to support it or they wouldn't be doing it.

I just extended my lease for another 5 months, but agree that nothing really matches all the benefits of gravity.

Porsche Cayenne EV will probably be the most comparable (and will probably exceed Gravity production this year...)
No third row though. Porsche is rumored to be releasing a 3 row SUV next year. Not going to be cheap.

Per Car and Driver: " The Cayenne EV is due to arrive at some point in 2026, although it may not go on sale in the United States until closer to 2027."

The Rivian adapter for NACS is not very expensive and is available now, and they can charge at fast speeds at Tesla SCs right now too - people report getting up to 250 or so, which is as fast as I’ve ever seen on my Model S anyway.

[This message isn't really intended for you, but it made this question pop into my mind.]

It really seems taboo to mention buying a Tesla on this forum (especially since every post I make that puts Tesla in a good light gets deleted immediately). But it seems people are eager to use their charging network.

I would think the same reasons one wouldn't want to buy a Tesla would apply to using their charging network. Or is it that boycotts and hatred only goes to the point where it becomes inconvenient to the offended?

Let me clarify, positive posts about Tesla do not get deleted. Inflammatory posts and/or personal attacks do. I don't think many people here are offended by Tesla, I cannot speak for you or others though. There a plenty of very good reasons to buy Lucid over Tesla; Lucid is quieter, much nicer interior, better handling, better efficiency, etc. The Tesla charging network is the best out there except being on an outdated 500V voltage platform. Hence, it makes perfect sense to prefer the Lucid Air over any Tesla and still like Tesla charging network.

Per Car and Driver: " The Cayenne EV is due to arrive at some point in 2026, although it may not go on sale in the United States until closer to 2027."
I guess it's delayed... This is what their Cayenne EV page says:
"The Cayenne EV will be an all-new vehicle for the Porsche brand and we expect to see it debut in late 2025 as a 2026 model.""

I’ve talked about choosing a Model S Plaid over an Air GT many times and never had any posts flagged or deleted. I think more competition is better for all of the options and forces everyone to get better. Right now I think Tesla has some advantages, and Lucid has some advantages, and it all comes down to what you value most. Seems like most Lucid fans can also acknowledge Tesla’s strengths and many came from Tesla.

Also - based on Porsche’s pricing strategy in the last few years, the Cayenne will be priced out of the market immediately. I love my GTS but no way I’d buy any new Porsche at the prices they ask.

First of all I think you’re getting this forum mixed up with X when it comes to Tesla / Elon boycotts etc. secondly, your comment above is probably the exact reason why your posts are getting deleted. They’re designed to create an argument which many can’t be bothered with or wish to see.

I’ve seen many positive Tesla posts in here along with previous Tesla owners comparing their Tesla experience to their Lucid experience and none of those comments get deleted. Maybe reassess how you’re writing about Tesla in here and your posts probably wouldn’t be deleted. 🤷‍♂️

@WeighingGravity, that's a huge range of alternatives that you're considering (from Air to Hummer). It makes me wonder, what is the reason for considering alternatives to Gravity? Do you have a need for a new vehicle by a certain date, or is it more anticipation/frustration that's leading to a desire to get something now?

If the real motivation is to alleviate the tension of waiting, then the best course may be to practice patience and get what you really want (Gravity). If you have a more immediate need for a new vehicle, then what are the most important needs/qualities? Air is obviously the sportiest choice, but the least practical. If you most want the ruggedness and off-road capability, then R1S is the obvious choice, and a great one. If you need a 3-row SUV, but don't necessarily need an off-roader, there are many options, as others have pointed out. The Volvo EX90 is very luxurious and extremely comfortable, but much less engaging to drive than Gravity. The Hyundai Ioniq 9 is not as luxurious, though the interior is a step up from other Hyundai models (I saw one at a dealership that had just arrived, though I didn't get to drive it).

I feel like the only thing out there with 3 rows, and the range is the Escalade IQ, right?

But It’s MASSIVE. It’s huge in person and even bigger from behind the wheel. I went and drove one and when you floor it, the front end lifts way up and it squirms all around. It was actually quite terrifying as it was huge and fills a lane even if settled. The big screen has some compromises in it as far as the way it’s configured and the lane change camera feed is central on the display wether turning left or right… The Escalade iq near me had lots of bright work trim on the roof popping off and the motorized doors didn’t work right. It was noisy over 60mph too… I wanted to like it, but I think it would work best as an Uber or airport limo, as it’s not fun to drive… but maybe great from the second row? Also, I have depreciation fear when starting that expensive for something I wouldn’t love, and might want to get out of when Gravity gets ramped/ Porsche 3 row SUV maybe a home run? So maybe limo companies can buy those…

We live in Texas and don’t have the greatest EV infrastructure, and family 130 miles away, so we want range. The 3 row EV for the family / kids/ dog to keep cabin cool and preconditioned. My wife doesn’t want to drive that huge Escalade either. So we will wait for the Gravity’s.

(We have both an Aurora Green GDE, Yosemite, 20/21, and Aurora Green GGT, Tahoe 20/21 no HUD on order. 2 Since Nov 7. GDE upgrade the day they offered small rims. FWIW- New to lucid. No solid delivery info, no pre vin, no vin, no demo Gravity dates available near us in Houston. I have become addicted to the forum and the lucid flys fly overs. Lol)

Oh man, I feel you! I was in the exact same position. My delivery specialist jumped the gun and told me I should expect my DE to arrive by the end of April, then two weeks after two weeks, and now I was told it was “supposed to” arrive before the end of the quarter. It was supposed to be the first one in Miami, but I no longer believe it.

I felt like I was losing my mind, and I know it is not healthy to text my delivery specialist 3 times a day. I know I need something to calm me down.

I looked through several options weeks ago and started to test drive. I ended up with a 25 G580 EQ to replace my 24 Cyberbeast.

Pros:

1. It is built like a tank, with no rattle or squeak. Overall, it is very solid.
2. It drives like a tank and has a very high seating position, perfect for city driving.
3. It is relatively comfortable, especially in Comfort suspension mode.
4. Lots of party tricks, G-Steering, G-Turn, etc.
5. Instant torque, just like other EVs.
6. Did I mention it is a tank? The door closing sound is music to my ears.

Cons:

1. The range is laughable.
2. Wind noise is much improved but still noticeable on the highways.
3. Too high for a lot of city garages.
4. Too many Gs in Miami.
5. The turning ratio (not radius) is too slow for my taste.

I will still take the GDE when it arrives. We still need it to replace our Model X Plaid. But at least now I can play with the new toy and keep my sanity in check.

I would also recommend checking out the Escalade IQ. It drives like a boat, but in a good way. The range is comparable to the Gravity if it is your priority.

Plan B…pretty sure this is a first post where you keep your existing car…

I’m in a 2020 Lincoln Aviator (built right after Covid lock down ended), it is a fully loaded Black Label with air suspension, interior that’s a lot like Tahoe, 30 way power seats with massage, 28 speaker Revel system and a base 400hp 3.0 turbo engine that in stock form is good for 14.6 quarter mile. Currently tuned to a best run of 12.3 seconds and there is another that runs mid 11s now.

I have the 8/100 extended warranty and no vehicle issues. This is my plan B after sitting in an Alpina XB7 and not seeing much of an upgrade.

My basic wants are:

1. I need 3 rows of space while being around 200” in length (parking spot limited, Manhattan, NY)
2. Needs to have over 300 miles of EV range (if I pick an EV, currently averaging like 14mpg with traffic and occasional fun bursts)
3. Something that wife won’t see as a downgrade (which is hard since nothing wrong with current vehicle!)

So yea…I just want more space and it’s impossible to get in a similar size outside of Gravity.

I saw the new Ioniq 9 but the styling is…something special, and I feel it would be a downgrade from current, R1S is way too boxy and inefficient, Model X was never in the running as rear doors are not me for, I fly stealth.

Call me crazy but if Gravity takes forever I will still be in my Lincoln, looking for the next best thing.

I have a test drive scheduled later today, things might change…

Felt almost exactly the same about the IQ! It's a far second option to the Gravity. Also lack of Carplay is big to me too. It has road presence in spades, but that's about all it has over the Gravity. Showing my coworkers and they are gushing over the IQ but the Gravity they were like that looks nice...but they just do not know how much better it really is. I'll wait a very good while for my DE, but at some point if it just doesn't happen, I will move on. I need that space and utility.

This is likely a foolish financial decision, but I have moments of considering buying a used R1S and selling when the Gravity is available. I don't expect to get our Bronze GGT with HUD this year. We sold our Model X late last year because we were concerned about the resale falling (prescient there!) and were naive and thought the Gravity would arrive by Spring. Now we are left with our Pacifica minivan and miss having an EV. We need seating for 6-7, which is very limiting. I don't want to lease a Kia or Volvo for 2 years; I want the Gravity when it is available. But a used R1S is still expensive; I would probably move on it if we could find one for less than 50K. Or I guess we could change our design to the Green with Tahoe if they are available sooner.
