I asked Lucid to sneak me in for a test drive in Dallas this Saturday. This was their response.

Tickets are refundable. If I am the a**hole, I'll own it. But if Lucid created certain perks and promises of perks for DE owners as it relates to Gravity orders, then it's not unfair to have the expectation that one can ask.

I believe the case has been made quite clearly. I hope you paid for the staff's dinner that evening or otherwise thanked them profusely. Fyi, pointing out the 1000 miles is beyond ridiculous. It was your decision to fly to Dallas.

I think the answer was correct but the wording could have been better. There is something to be said for being an early adopter of an expensive product. So the manger could have explained that all times are booked but he/she can say something like "Lucid appreciates your purchase as an early adopter and we treasure owners such as you. We will work hard to try to find a way for you to get a test drive but we can't absolutely guarantee it and we can't guarantee the time. I am sure you can understand that we can't bump other drivers who are already scheduled but things happen (sickness, family emergency, etc.) that could produce a cancellation and if everything else fails we can likely squeeze you in for a short ride at the end."

The other alternative, of course, is to take a different plane ride to a different Lucid Studio where the OP can schedule the test drives.

I think their response is spot on and it’s silly to expect more when there are a ton of people waiting on (and scheduling ahead) their test drive for that day. You will probably still get to drive it, but to think you deserve more from them is a little much. And aren’t you hopping on a plane for other reasons altogether anyway?

I took delivery of an Air Dream Performance in late 2021 and now own a second Air Dream P after the first one was wrecked. And I also have two Gravity Dream Editions on order.

When reservations for test drives opened up at the West Palm Beach studio where I would prefer to do the test drive (Miami traffic is too crazy), I decided not to reserve a drive because I was expecting to get at least one of the Gravities fairly early on (based on being a current Lucid owner and having ordered the morning orders opened up). And I was committed to the car, anyway, based on my experience with the Air and inputs from reviewers and forum members I trust.

However, as I am still waiting to get VIN numbers assigned to the two Gravities, I decided to try for a test drive after all just to answer a few more questions I have. I called West Palm and was told all they could do was put me on a waiting list. They sent me a link, I registered for the only time slot that would still accept a waitlist addition -- an inconveniently early one, as it is almost a 3-hour drive to the studio -- and I'm still waiting to hear whether I can get in.

The sales people are strapped with test drives and other launch-related activity during the narrow windows in which the test drive cars are on hand, and there are many buyers who need a test drive to make a decision about whether to order. It would never cross my mind to expect sales people to work outside their busy schedules to give me a test drive or to expect another customer who signed up for a test drive on a timely basis to lose his place in line.

The more we thought about this, we decided to rearrange our schedule. We grabbed the last Friday slot available (4:20). Means a nighttime drive back across rural south central Florida. That's always interesting.

The guy in front of me booked two test drives in one day. I thought it was selfish. Lucid needed to get as many different customers into the driver's seat as possible in those thee days.

Whether it was selfish might depend on the circumstances. I booked a slot, and my partner, who is also getting a Gravity Dream, booked a slot. As they are at the same time, I assume there must be at least two test drive cars. And we are taking a third person with us who is also interested in checking out the Gravity and will split the test drive with one of us (yet to be decided which). We have a 3-hour drive each way to get to the studio, and it would not be worth it to split one 20-minute drive three ways. Also, some people who booked test drives at other locations for late in the day reported that by then the test drives were running behind schedule, and even their allocated 20 minutes were cut short.

I confess I felt a bit guilty about it, but all the slots on the other days already had waiting lists (and some of the waiting lists were even closed), yet these two slots were still open as primary slots this late in the game. So it seemed like a time in which not many people were interested.
