Lucid and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology reported a strategic partnership.

I’m sure KAUST will prioritize Lucid….
KAUST IS ONLY going to give processing power to run AI or whatever processes they need to do

It is like giving your laptop to your friend to use it for homework hhhhh

Lucid is going to be in charge to do whenever they want

Maybe they will get extra hands from the professors and PHDs that KAUST has

There’s really no reason to assume this. The press release simply implied a new collaboration. There’s zero reason in my mind to assume Lucid would let go of anyone on their own staff or stop developing this technology
themselves internally. Seems more to me like this university will simply be giving them access to compute power and data.

I did not state one word about Lucid letting go of anyone on their own staff, or about them scrapping the development this technology internally. If anything, think it's pretty clear that Lucid's software team is woefully understaffed for the many varied tasks at hand. Lucid's press release is also clear in stating that this relationship is expected to go well beyond data access and greater computing power. I also did not suggest that it's a bad long-term move, but it's pretty clear to me that the transition of even parts of the whole will take time to get up to speed.

Can’t wait for the flux capacitor
Maybe they can devleop a reliable lock/unlock system. Having done that, they can move on to Android Auto.

Seriously, I like what Slate is contemplating. For example, provide a mounting slot and power plug, and let users buy the A.A. devices and screens they want.
Lucid could do this by showing us the plug specs and location for the big screen - We could then buy our own AA and other devices to plug in..

Slate is a very, very different market and product. What works for Slate wouldn’t work for Lucid, as it would never meet the standard of “luxury”.

That said, I really do hope AA comes soon because I would really like to stop hearing about it. :)

And they should advance the delivery of the midsize...all hands on deck, work work work....make up for the shamble deliveries of the Air and Gravity, get the midsize out 6 month earlier. They owe this to their investors.
You’re right, they’re probably all just drinking coffee and eating donuts all day. 🙄

Hah! But the Slate concept of specified interfaces for add-ons is a good idea that could apply to a luxury car. They would just be luxury add-ons.

Lols 😂 I had a mental picture of this… hilarious. Although, knowing the Lucid team IRL I know this not to be the case. Serious dedication from the whole team… just look at 2.6.16, it’s small but I’m impressed they did all that while working on Gravity software. ADAS improvements are killing it on my test drive today.

glad to see the title of this thread was revised from it's original speculative nastiness (originally for those not aware its was something like "Is this the real reason Peter Rawlinson left Lucid {paraphrasing})

I'm happy to see LCID partnering globally on FSD driving - they do not have anywhere the resources to do it in-house ALA TSLA and need to find a force multiplier IMO.

There seems to be an undercurrent of KSA hate, more than can be simply explained by tariff impacts.

I think it was merged. I didn’t write the Rawlinson title. Just noticed this.

curious - why is that perfectly clear? I don't get it?

Software team not doing anything ≠ Software team woefully understaffed IMHO. Many of these things that have long been unaddressed- like unlocking doors, having the top and bottom screens do 2 separate things, having any real updates are not exactly rocket science needing a massive team.

I disagree, the software we see is the tip of the proverbial iceberg. Battery management, motor control, air conditioning, flux capacitor… the list of no forward UX software is immense.

They aren’t woefully understaffed, but have a complex machine they need to manage and are perfectionists. Tesla pushes whatever little thing comes to Elon’s mind, Lucid pushes performance updates, ADAS updates, and incremental changes.

You bought the car “as-is” the OTA’s are gratis…

Once again, let’s all embark on our annual walk from SF to LA.

LOL bought a car "as-is" (and like what I got) but I also see the potential - I haven't seen an OTA update. Maybe they are super-de-dooper as you say - I'll wait and see. Unlocking and having the top and bottom screens for different things are on the top of my list i.e. if I purposely swipe nav (or media) to the bottom screen do not reset it the second I touch *anything* on the top screen.

Sorta know my way around the joint (as a CTO with 30 years in software), but thanks for the advice.

The size (or funding) of the team often has little to do with the output - it's the passion under the belt and Lucid's software team is letting great hardware down from what I've observed

Wasn’t meant as an insult. There is a lot going on under the hood that also requires a ton of software engineering; for example, the 1000Hz traction control system, which is the first of its kind, has dedicated software engineers who worked on it. That’s not something that would be seen in an OTA release note, or visible to the user, but is immensely impactful.

That’s what I meant. There’s a lot going on under the hood.

Also, I think the 1000Hz TCS system allows Sapphire to have no rear differential, just dual motors with a software based differential, which is in contrast to the internal motor differential present on the GT.

Dollars to donuts Bosch handles that 1000Hz traction control (or it has nothing to do with the main software team.) My only point being the main software team that handles in vehicle UI systems needs to show something one of these days. The hardware team is engineering laps around them on a regular basis (as seen in the Gravity voltage stepping to 800V charging using the rear motor at a constant 250kW in Tesla superchargers) from what I see, and others are noticing. Maybe the embedded systems folks are awesome, but the guys and gals on the front end user software need to step up big-time, and do "something", IMO. Anything, really would be nice. I'm new here so let me know what I missed in the last 6 months.

I can speak with absolute 100% certainty Bosch does not. Bosch built the TCS that is in my DE and in the Airs released before Sapphire. The 1000Hz one is entirely in-house, and developed by Lucid for the Sapphire and then brought to the Pure. It is my understanding it may eventually be back-ported to the older vehicles but they are doing tons of testing before that ever happens, if it ever does.

You got here right around when they were very busy with Gravity. Give it a bit of time for things to get settled. OTA updates prior to the last few months were much more frequent.

News flash, I know it may be hard to absorb but literally (nearly) no one cares these days what is under that iceberg. I know it's hard stuff but it is table-steaks. It is just expected that HVAC, traction control, ABS, charging, motors, steering, etc. "just work" so no credit there. They want their doors to unlock, and they want to control their music and see their navigation *at-the-same-time* (gaaasp)

Don't get me started on Lucid's ADAS... I did not spec DreamDrive Pro on my car for a reason... it basically sucks and we all know it.
