Lucid will not offer heads-up display on Gravity GT (for now)

Whether you like the answer or not, I appreciate Lucid being upfront and engaging their customers. If the heads-up display is really important to you, you’ll have to splurge for the Dream! Or wait.

Okay. So retrofit is unlikely. I'd assume that's a no and set expectations accordingly.

So if you really, really need a HUD, wait a year or two. If you can live without it, enjoy the extra money in your pocket.

Now THIS is the announcement they should have come out with at the outset.

I've been watching Reddit, and the discussion there has unfolded similarly to the one on this forum.

A little bit of candor goes a long, long way with most people, and I'm surprised Lucid has been slow in learning that, especially given how excellent -- and even intuitive -- their communications have been on the engineering side of the house.
I’d imagine they didn’t want current order holders to cancel their orders or put their orders on hold until HUD becomes available on the GGT, because we’ve been reading how critical and “life-changing” HUD is for some people

In two short messages, Nick Twork covered almost all the bases very well:

- implicitly signaled that Lucid has been monitoring the reception the HUD news received
- started with an apology for the confusion
- explained the reason for the sudden change
- explained why another feature disappeared along with the HUD
- explained why the HUD cannot be retrofitted.

As an "organization watcher" (shadows of my past career), it leaves me wondering where the original notice to customers originated, as Mr. Twork really seems to get it, something he has demonstrated with other communications carrying his name.

Wow, are you ever spot on! My leap of faith on all of your points was because of my dissatisfaction with Tesla, its CEO, and its rather shoddy build quality. We have two Teslas, an X and S, both older, 2017 & 2018, bought used over five years ago. The tech in Lucid brought me in as was their vision. I'm so, so, disillusioned and I've bought thousands of shares of stock because I came to believe in them. I'm not full of sour grapes about this, I'm full of disappointment and now questioning my faith in them. I just don't know how to feel anymore about Lucid. Every video and every test drive during the press event cemented my faith in Lucid and my decision to buy the most expensive car I will ever own (teacher here....we make nothing, so this is a big, big, deal for me). I feel like buying a $125K car ought to include all of the options we had checked off....ALL. It feels like the car is being stripped of items it should have at this price point. At the very least, to reestablish trust, tell us why. It's not that hard. Why the change? If it's hardware shortages, fine......but don't take it away, tell us that if you want to continue with your order, and you have the tech package, you won't get your car until fall, or last quarter, etc. Don't strip it out, but then allow it in the DE. That is the galling part to me, the upsell feeling that their move puts out.
I would wait, I’m sure in a year or two it will be available for the GT

The Gravity GT I ordered is fully loaded just like the DE. But, I do not need the 7 seats, the towing hitch, and the 22 inch wheels. The difference is $140k for DE vs $117k for what I ordered. Ouch. I would have to pay more to get less range and more power that I will not use.
Is that the only difference between the two.

Also is there such a thing as too much HP these days. Wonder if that is why the range is lower.

Have they confirmed if the DE will have HUD and the other stuff they are taking out of the GT?

Got the same email. Quite disappointing on a $120k car. The Dream Edition line got me. Perhaps hold out and see what changes later.
Do not want to be disappointed when they bring out the GTP for 25K less. My test drive is May 10th. Also we see those low mileage 2022 and 2023’s with very low miles on sale for 1/2 or less.
But hey it’s “Only Money” and “you only live once”. 🤪🤪🥳

Yes, that's explicitly in the mail advising of the change. If you need HUD + dynamic ambient lighting right now, you can get a DE.

Part of the reason the DE hasn't sold out yet is that it's a slightly rarer bird who wants what "Dream Edition" means when it comes to an SUV.

More horsepower on a sedan? Yes, please. In a 7-seater? I can't drive like a maniac with kids in the car, anyway. So meh?

There have been high performance SUVs on the market forever, of course. It's just even more niche than it would be for a sedan or sports coupe.

People are more likely to want more range in an SUV. Or more towing capacity. Something Lucid isn't really in a position to offer beyond what the GT can already do.

Ironically, a Dream Edition Range, which sold poorly for Air, would have been the much more popular package for Gravity, I think. But they likely couldn't add that range without taking away some interior space. I wonder how many would take that tradeoff?

What if Dream Edition Gravity had been a 5-seat only option, with the extra floor space under where the last row would be stored sacrificed for more battery? Would that have been more attractive, I wonder?

I'd say at this point the Gravity DE is demonstrating a Sapphire Gravity is out of the question.

Midsize Sapphire? Much more likely.

Nick is on vacation and didn't get a chance to review the message before it went out. Shit happens, live and learn, etc. 🤷‍♂️

An interesting question now is what sort of priority there will be on getting the HUD software working. With only 450 vehicles with the hardware for the near term, I imagine that fixes and features will fall down the list vs. closing gaps on functionality that will affect all however many they build before the supply chain issues are resolved. It's a bit different than whatever is done differently with the DE motors, since I imagine that's locked and finished when the vehicles ship.

1. I cannot use 22/23” wheels because I have to have AS tires for where I live
You can spec any wheels on the DE.

Also, don’t expect Lucid to be very forthcoming on the real reasons for the HUD elimination on GGT. If they give people any hope that this is a temporary supply chain issue, it will keep some of the people considering jumping to DE to get HUD and also have a number of people delay their orders to wait for HUD to become available on GGTs early next year.
LOL.

@borski your GT has the HUD, but is inaccessible via software. So another rare aspect to yours; 2025 and has HUD.

Any idea what they will do with your GT once your DE is ready? Sell it as CPO? Or there are 10 early GT customers out there who may be offered a GT with HUD.
Absolutely no idea.

This one aged well.

Just giving you some guff. Don’t take it personally.
Came here to say this :p

This is why I try not state things with certainty unless I’m certain (I screw up all the time, of course)

Yes.

good to know

ALL of this points very strongly towards a supply issue with the HUD projector, IMO. It makes zero sense to develop the enormously complicated software for this feature and then only put it on 450 cars, nor does it make sense to rug-pull the feature from existing orders, unless they've been absolutely forced to.
...
Again speculating, but my guess is they'll probably bring the feature back to the website ordering page when (and if) they can get HUD projectors at volume again.
...
One or two paragraphs of frank communication from Lucid would have been met with mild disappointment, but ultimately understanding and trust, most likely. Instead they've now got to do damage control...

not to toot my own horn, but i think i kinda nailed it yesterday! :)

They wouldn't need to sacrifice the sub-trunk, eliminating the 3rd row would free up its footwell for more batteries. And putting the batteries in that footwell space would have better weight balance than putting them in the sub-trunk space.

Understood and no feelings hurt. To be fair, I later posted a recommended press release for Lucid that very much mirrors the one the recently posted.

Haha word. Just some good-natured ribbing. :p

I’d expect the same if it had gone the other way. :p

I feel like that would be a less attractive vehicle overall, although it's a balance. Some of us are getting a 3-row SUV because... we need a 3-row SUV.

Very interesting. I wrote to my sales rep on March 31 to change dream drive from premium to pro. I also made the following request:
I also have a request. Among the three features in the Technology Package upgrade, I personally don't think the heads up display is useful. If anything, it could be a distraction to driving. However, I do like to have the 110V power outlets, primarily for power outages emergencies, such as what happened during super storm Sandy. Would it be possible to only have the power outlets? I understand this is a longshot request, I'd appreciate if you could pass this request to the appropriate team for consideration.

So this works for me perfectly. Don't blame me for them dropping the the other two features though :-)

Lucid should NEVER send out a notification this significant without running it by Twork first.

I suspected it wasn’t his work.
