Hi All!

I was hoping the good folks on this forum could help me with a few questions I had after my test drive of the Gravity last week.

1. I am coming from an F-Pace SVR. I am deeply in love with this car, as it is the perfect family hauler, is incredibly comfortable regardless of where or how I am driving it, and it is extremely fast. And it roars. It's just a blast to drive in all scenarios. I am having a difficult time convincing myself that I will have as much fun in a Gravity GT, even though the GT is technically quicker on paper and it is arguably the only EV that will come close to the experience of a roaring supercharged SUV. There's something about the combination of speed, roaring and gas smells that makes me happy and I am nervous that I'll really miss it if I'm in an EV. I would love to hear about anyones experience that has made a similar transition? Are you happy you made the leap in hindsight? Is it as fun? Are there days you wish you were driving your last love?

2. During my test drive last week, I noticed loud wind noise seemingly caused by the sideview mirror at highway speeds. It seemed to be louder than I have experienced in other cars. I asked the sales rep and she seemed to indicate that it was normal for the Gravity. Have any of you experienced this? Said differently, if you turned down all music and sat in the cabin in silence above 70 mph, do you just have to live with the loud whooshing sound it makes? Or might this have just been the particular example I was in?

3. Is anyone else here worried about Lucid going bankrupt and having their cars essentially brick or no longer be supported? (please excuse this blasphemy!) I'm just worried about losing my equity in the car.

Thank you all!!

2. I have not noticed wind noise at speed; in fact, one of the best things about our Gravity is how eerily silent it is! This sounds like a misaligned seal on the demo drive car.

3. I've considered this, but they've been around and delivering Air long enough and have deep-enough pocketed investors that I'm not particularly worried over my expected ownership of the car (6-8 years). They seem to be executing well now, and there's a large enough base that the worst case I would imagine is an acquisition/merger. I have a 2019 Tesla Model X, and it is essentially quite "unsupported" now despite that company remaining very active... it's not bricked, but it doesn't get new features and its impossible to schedule first-party service.

Thank you both for the replies! The wind noise was especially concerning; glad to know it was likely that test vehicle.

About your question 1: there's no doubt that driving certain combustion cars can be more exhilarating than driving an EV. As is riding a horse at full gallop, or winding out a racing bike, compared to driving an ICE car. But after you've driven an EV for a while, you'll realize how silly those playing card-in-the-spokes ICE sports cars can seem. A lot of noise and drama solely for the sake of noise and drama. What you get instead with an EV is extreme grace and power.

Many of us here come from a lifetime of owning various exotics. I can't go back to ICE anymore, and would only consider buying one for nostalgic reasons.

I love question #1.
Hopefully you'll get more responses.

Definitely an understandable question and one that ev companies may very well seek to provide a response to in the years to come. I suppose when ICE cars were first introduced to the public, there were horse people who shuddered at the idea of riding a machine instead of a prime race horse or the family horse.

I like @DeaneG's phrases of "for the sake of noise and drama" versus "grace and power". As a motorsports (drag racing mostly) fan, not driver, for over 50 years, the appeal of that noise and drama makes sense. Even the youngster with the little Honda Civic and loud exhaust gets it.

Here's a thread that may interest you even though it doesn't answer your question.

1. I have owned many cars with great sound (a pair of Ferraris, older Alfas and BMW’s to name a few). Yes, at times I miss running my Ferrari 430 wide open in second gear and hearing its pure mechanical symphony. All of that said, it clearly did not stop me from going electric (something I did back in 2011) and I would also never go back to it. My Air GT is the finest car I’ve ever owned. I seriously missed the noise for about a week.

2. Definitely a problem with the demo car. Also, however, you will hear things in an EV that are masked by engine noise in an ICE vehicle.

3. Lucid is here to stay. They are backed by very long term thinking strategic investors and have best in class technology.

Before my 2025 AGT, I drove M3, M5, M3, Audi S6. Spent time in a Viper, a Carrera 4, etc.
Yes, there's the feeling of a big engine revving, shifting, clutch control, etc.

All of that mechanical stuff changes how you drive -- timing shifts for torque, etc. Physical brakes/two-or-three pedal driving. Some might feel as though this is a big deal in reaching your level of driving skill...

Drove a Mustang EV - which convinced me to look. Drove an AG then an AGT. Decision done.
EVs deliver linear power... anytime... With regenerative braking you get control you can't get from engine braking.
Tried one-pedal driving... works in traffic but not for me.

The AGT has "ludicrous speed" levels of power just waiting for your right foot to ask. You can get just a the tiniest amount - or all you could ever want - instantly.
You can finesse the line around curves, that you couldn't do with any of the cars I've listed - even with a big/wide torque curve.
With the AGT, I get to tune the behavior in

Enjoy the decision. Get used to not getting the machine ever needing to tell you to shift or "I'm out of torque"

Some EVs add a Propulsion sound. Heck, even some of the newer muscle cars augment the engine sound in the cabin because the physical engine was too quiet for the brand image.

In my wife's Mustang Mach-E, it's one of the first settings we turn off.

The Dodge Charger Daytona R/T EV has a fake exhaust system that can produce up to 126 dB. So much that one drive got a ticket for it https://www.autoevolution.com/news/...e-charger-ev-exhaust-was-too-loud-257039.html

Thanks for the replies everyone! It's good to hear that there are others that have not looked back from some of the more prolific ICE cars.
I think I'll go ahead with the GGT after all.

I don't care about people buying cars that add/supplement engine noise with the speakers in the cabin. But steam comes out my ears when cars emit make very loud noises outside the cabin, particularly if they're not integral to the operation of the vehicle. Whether it's modifying/removing the muffler on an ICE vehicle, or cranking up speakers on an EV. Either way, the owner is basically saying that their aesthetic desires are most important, and everyone else around just needs to deal with it. For ICE vehicles, it makes me want to jam a piece of fruit into the tail pipe, but I've never actually given in to the urge.

I love that EVs are so much quieter. Particularly in urban environments, people are subjected to way too much noise pollution.

Oh man, I missed the crackle and pop of the JLR SC V8s. Had a RRS SVR for a short period. and had 2 RRS with SCV8s. If I have to go ICE, those JLR V8s are the way to go. The F-Type SCV8, omg, that noise.

You will not miss the SVR.

@cholent I have the opposite opinion, having bought one, given the chance again, I would not have purchased it. The caveat here is that my issues were with the Air Pure not the Gravity but in the end i don't think they are that far apart.

Wind noise was def apparent in my car as well, I had only ever noticed this before in my escalades, for me/IMO I thought my Audi Q8 was the quietest car I'd ever owned, and they focused a lot on double pane glass and dampening materials which Lucid doesn't do I believe to reduce weight.

The wind noise was second to the issue of the drafts coming from the B pillar in the car. Lucid denied this was an issue for well over a year, even when it was "fix" it wasn't.

you have to consider your location relative to the nearest Service Center. Again IMO this drastically amplifies the frustration of any service event due to scheduling, tow pick ups, time lost in transit (to and from), further compounded by SC's being overwhelmed to begin with because they aren't scaling them effectively (IMO). So not only for the hassle, but if/when something happens lets say a windshield crack or a minor impact you don't want to run through insurance, you will be responsible for tow transport each way. This took a typical windshield repair (historically even if we look at ones with HUD for added complexity) ~$1,000 to over $4K for my Pure. They kept telling me to just run it through my insurance which I also thought was not their place.

The car does drive amazing, love how it grips the road, similar to BMW you can feel the road through the car which I loved, ascetically it's beautiful, I always gave it a look back as I walked away...

The hardest part for me is the whole GTM was around the software, and from the beginning that has been the biggest issue they can't seem to fix. I'm genuinely happy a lot of members here have such positive experiences with theirs, but for me, I have never had to schedule more service for any TWO previous cars than I have for my Pure.

They have been telling us that all of these "annoyances" with the software were supposed to be fixed/go away when Gravity got here, and based on the reviews that are trickling out, they are still very real.

I have always loved the SVU, sounds amazing, beautifully crafted! I am aware they are known for high service repairs as well, but what you need to determine is your location to the facility, and if you have to tow or not, because that also means, you will be relegated to Enterprise for a loaner, which hey, I didn't mind here and there; but I def got annoyed that more than once I was driving a Nissan Rogue for +5 weeks while they were troubleshooting the issue in the SC ~7 hours away.

As far as viability of the company, we are all guessing, but objectively it's hard to be optimistic. Each year they project 20k units, and since their inception in 2021 they haven't even sold more than 32K collectively, and they STILL have massive gaps in software, service and support.

We really need an eyeroll emoji on this site.

FWIW, wind noise isn’t an issue in Gravity at all. They got that right.

That would be great if they did, I guess I’m hesitant since there are so many inconsistencies that majority users don’t have but a good number still experience and inquire about.

I haven’t seen a single report on the forum or in any review about NVH being inadequate. It’s only ever been the opposite.

I'm speaking more broadly about the inconsistency with various issues but I understand.
