When it hit 86% it just stopped

Tried to plug it in again but would not wowk

Any ideas ?

Yep. Likely EA shut you down. I think they are currently the only network doing that on certain chargers.

Some Tesla sites charge a congestion fee of $0.50-1.00 per minute if you don't unplug after reaching 80% charge level, even if you continue to charge.

True! At least they let you keep charging. You would think tho that the EA screens should tell the person why they are being cut off...

EA only allows charging to 85% at all the EA chargers I've seen. It you have the EA app it will tell you that charging is only allowed to 85%

the first time I used a Rivian DC charger, I obviously missed the screen that said there would be idle charges once my set charging level had been reached. Won't do that again. 💸 Doubly annoyed because it was like 1:30 AM in the morning in a deserted mall lot adjacent to our hotel, not a lot of charging traffic then unsurprisingly.

I think it's obvious Lucid needs to incorporate some kind of explosive ejector mechanism that spits the charging cable out onto the ground when the set charging level has been reached. ;)

You’re asking way too much of EA. Consider yourself lucky the screen is working at all 😂

So…..were you going to be that person who just left the car connected to a DC charger overnight locking it out from others to use?

I’ve actually found over the past 6 months that EA has been far more reliable than Tesla.

I know, I didn’t see myself saying this either lol

Tesla doesn’t charge idle or congestion fees unless the site is over 50% in use. I have never been charged either, even when I charged to 90% or 100% - but over 80% it slows waaaayyyy down so it isn’t a good use of time anyway.

I’m glad to hear that EA charger reliability has improved - it’s hard for me to imagine it is “far more reliable than Tesla”, as Tesla is still the gold standard and I have almost never seen any issues at any Tesla site in years.

The ones I've used in California have been fine. The ones in Arizona and especially New Mexico I went to recently were very hit or miss. Had one location completely down, one that wouldn't connect and start charging (and not just the Gravity, several other people were trying at the same time) and one that started charging and then stopped with an error after a minute or two. The Ionna ones I used were fantastic (as expected), as well as the one Walmart owned/operated charger being excellent.

The one Rivian Network charger I tried in Holbrook, AZ was having problems (stuck at 50kW and then I saw later that it was down for maintenance) which was disappointing and annoying as I had to backtrack to Winslow, AZ to be able to charge enough to make it to Gallup, NM - the only other charger in Holbrook is a Tesla only supercharger.

Tesla was the gold standard, but times have changed:

I completely agree, this is definitely true in AZ. My experience is Colorado supports this also.

All the ones rated higher than Tesla are relatively new - they had better be rated well! The acid test will be years from now when equipment degrades and needs to be maintained. EA’s problem is that they don’t maintain their network well (or had shoddy equipment in the first place).

A little of both. EA sourced equipment from at least three different new-to-DCFC manufacturers, and didn't adequately plan for breakdowns. They were being measured by the number of DCFC installations rather than uptime.

Heh, no. I planned to always move it when the car told me it reached the level I wanted, which it did. It just took me a while to get down there and I was surprised about the idle fees already ticking up.

It was a rented Polestar 3 BTW, which was great and a blast to drive.

What a shame that car couldn't have been developed further for the USA.

the whole Polestar 3 thing is just silly, with it currently being built in Charleston, SC and all. I wonder if there was a different administration (and the connected-car rule still existed as stated) whether Polestar (Geely) would have tried a bit harder to negotiate the terms ala Volvo. I mean I kind of get it if it's true more than 95% of Polestar sales are outside the US. The Polestar 4 I think could really have done well here with the new SUV version they announced.
