when is lane change assist unavailable?

just got my DDP re-calibrated, very happy! I've noticed now that lane change assist is sometimes unavailable - either in total (on a mapped road where I'm using drive assist) or the car starts the lane change but then about exactly half-way through, cannot compete the lane change and puts up a giant message in red for me to complete the lane change (no big deal since I am actually paying attention and holding the wheel). since I was using drive assist, I am under the impression that the road is mapped - this happened on one test at night and another in the rain. Both of these are less than ideal visual conditions but I know the car could see the lanes as the drive assist was functioning. Does anyone have a sense of what causes the lane change assist to be unavailable (either full or partial)?? TIA

Lucid lane change has always been inconsistent for me. I guess it wants certain conditions before it would allow the feature like good lane markings but a lot of times that doesn't help either.

I guess it's just new so I just wait and it will mature some day with more consistency.

I’ve noticed the same inconsistency. While driving on a major mapped highway (Interstate 5), where the lanes were clearly dashed and conditions were ideal, the system still showed solid lane lines on the screen and didn’t allow me to initiate a lane change using DreamDrive Pro. It’s odd because this was a well-mapped section of the highway where you’d expect full functionality. I’ve also found that Drive Assist itself isn’t always available, even in areas where it should be. It feels like the system is still a bit unpredictable at times.

Does a camera/sensor calibration resolve this issue?

I’ve had similar experiences but believe it’s due to relative speed of traffic. I postulate that It knows it won’t be successful at a lane change so limits its ability: most of the time when traffic clears up it goes back to dashed lines.

although when there's traffic, it displays the red overlay, keeps the blinker on and then changes when it's clear. this feels like something different.

I don't know but don't think so. I think it's related to road conditions and lighting, etc, best I can tell. In fact, I noticed it more after calibration but that could just be the conditions (car is still new, so not that much experience prior to the calibration).

yeah I'm good with the whole thing .. it clearly doesn't have the right conditions. I tried it again today on a little trip .. lane change assist was unavailable on one try and then 5 seconds later, it was fine - I think it was lighting related rather than traffic. was just wondering if anyone had figured out some patterns, mostly out of curiosity.

Sorry, I should have clarified. I meant when there is traffic before you engage the lane change. The lane change will time out after a time if it continues not to find a lane change solution (when the car is flashing red and trying to do the change). Maybe you are experiencing something different, but I am talking about when you are driving down the road in Drive Assist, and the lanes are filled instead of dashed, and the only reason I have seen consistently is that I am in heavy traffic. I think this would be to limit the times the car times out on a lane change solution so its lane change capabilities aren't mocked. lol.

and so you don't look like grandpa driving down the freeway with the blinker on 🤣
