What does the dynamic range/efficiency dial really show?

I'm getting to know my Gravity (two weeks of ownership), and I'm wondering what's behind the Dynamic Range/Efficiency dial calculations. I'm starting to think the dial doesn't represent just driving efficiency, but takes into account all sources of battery drain, including while parked.

For one week of driving:

Trip meter: 251.4 mi, 81.9 kWh, 3.07 mi/kWh
Dynamic range meter: 201 mi, 2.80 mi/kWh
Range display: 258 mi rated, 201 mi Dynamic, 61% battery.
Hand calculation using range display numbers: 201 mi / (118 kWh * 0.61) = 2.79 mi/kWh (I'm using 118 kWh as the base for battery % calculations, but this is just a guess, based on best fit for various other stats that I've collected.)

I've never seen the dynamic range dial reach 2.9, let alone the 3.07 I'm getting via my trip meter for the entire week. Does anyone know how dynamic range/efficiency is calculated?
 
I drive like a hyper miler sometimes but this wasn't really one of those times. Never thought I'd see this.

Both these pictures were taken at end of drive within seconds of each other.
Short round trip in LA on jammed 3-5 lane highways, no stop and go but occasional slowing and chump enlightening. Maybe 5mi total of surface streets <45mph. 70°F coast to 77° inland. Charged the car to 50%, ~3 hours just before the trip on my wimpy 4kW home charger so the battery was probably a good temperture.
I was messing with the A/C trying to figure if it was actually off or not. (no conclusion). I had DD off as I thought I could do better on smoothness. Apparently so.

1333 mile GGT 20/21, 5seat.

Definitely looks defective. Or you were going down hill a lot.

Let’s return that and get you with the 2.0 program.
 
I had the same question. I asked a Lucid Studio rep as well as a customer service rep over the phone and neither could give me an answer of what the dial actually measures. But my dial is always worse than what the Trip Computer shows for mi/kWh. One rep thought it showed efficiency over the previous 15 miles or something like that. My dial now ranges between 2.5 and 2.7, which is frustrating since it started at 3.1 when I first picked up the Gravity. It is pretty cold now, so I'm hoping it improves in Spring and Summer.

I think that everyone's Gravity shows a high number on the dynamic display (mine started at 3.29) when they're new. I think it's just the default number before they've been driven much and/or just after a reset.
 
It is the menu under range it says they heavily weight the last 10 miles in the calculation. I doubt that and would like to know what really makes up this number. I’ve gotten to the point I might just never have it on the screen anymore because it doesn’t mean anything.
Did a little test this morning to see how the dynamic number would change. Started at 2.8 on dynamic and I reset trip A to zero. Went 10 miles at 70mph and got 3.16. Yet dynamic only went up to 2.81. Went another 10 miles at 70mph for total of 20 miles and averaging 3.17, yet dynamic only went up to 2.83.
So the car is telling me I am averaging 3.16 at 70mph and on a full charge in a perfect world at constant speed I can get 388 miles (123 x 3.16) versus dynamic says I’ll go 348 miles (123 x 2.83). 40 miles is a big difference. Not to mention life lifetime is 2.97 and dynamic has never been above 2.9.

It's not super useful because of the limited data, especially at slow speeds and the fact that I don't know exactly what was going on in between the lines.

Tom's data shows many other interesting details if you pick into it.
 
in the manual, it says:

The Dynamic Range value provides a live
estimate of the remaining range based
on current driving behavior and energy

I'm probably missing something, however the mi/kWh on the trip meter is telling you what you did in the past - the driving efficiency is telling you what you will get over the next X number of miles between now and when your battery runs out (the future). It includes HVAC, etc. and doesn't know if you will be going up or down hills, driving fast or slow. It's just looking at your remaining battery, looking at your immediate past and current driving style and battery usage, battery temp, etc. and making an assumption.

Sort of like a game - it is trying to get you to drive more efficiently and rewards you with a higher number if you drive more efficiently in the future. The problem is, I'm using it wrong - trying to get it as low as possible, by accelerating at every opportunity, driving at higher than posted speeds and taking on all who want to test the car's performance.

Pretty sure there is a big buffer, and the math based on reduced available battery size. So use current efficiency to do math, or figure out if Lucid is holding 10-15% of battery hostage at which point 123kwh useable makes no sense at all.
 
I live in the Bay and mostly deal with high traffic Freeways. In the limited opportunities I get I'll punch it here and there.

My dynamic range has been 2.5-2.6 for a long time now with >2500 miles driven. Recent car trip on highway for 3 hours with 2 small kids, wife, and a few suitcases I averaged 2.7-2.8 on the trip meter but my dynamic range never showed >2.6.

I mostly ignore it and consider it a 'worst case scenario' milage?

I figure on a road trip I'd get 300-350 miles on a 100% charge, 7 seater, mid size wheels.
 
Seems pretty reasonable that it's calculating the number of miles given divided by the kWh of battery used by all sources. That's not going to keep me from preheating the car in the winter (how nice) or sitting in the cabin with the heat on listening to Tidal play crossroads jazz. Still getting something around 2.9 with my limited driving time.

I don't think the buffer is that big at all. I think from memory, I recall Lucid saying in one of the many interviews about Gravity that it was 123kW battery with about 117-118kW usable.
 
I wish Lucid would just also add trip avg mph. My Dad''s 2003 Lexus RX300 has this in the trip computer, it's easy to see then if your efficiency is good because of traffic conditions or something else....

Kyle from out of spec refers to 123 useable and so is Tom from state of charge.

So…unless told otherwise that power is hiding somewhere inaccessible to us or behind the 0 mile mark, only true way to find out is to drive until dead I guess.

I can see it being useful if accurate, but its not as if it actually dictates the range. Just estimating.
 
Seems like a lot of splitting hairs here.
Look, a Lucid Gravity, regardless of any approach to apply math this way or that way, is going to give you a lot more range and efficiency than most other EV's out there so just drive the thing and try to enjoy your life and not get all caught up in the minutia of efficiency calculations. They're going to very with seasonal temps, headwinds, elevation gains, etc... Deal with it. Did you obsess over minute differences of MPG in the ICE era in this manner?
Try driving a Buzz or some GM platform Blazer or Honda Prologue thing for coupe months and then whine about how inefficient your Lucid is...

Seriously, chill ppl!..don't worry, be Happy ;)
