Very Weak 2.1 - 3 Miles/Kwh. Looking for advices

Hi all,

I got my Lucid Air Touring with 19 inch tire at End of July 2025. I have driven about 2.5k so far. as you guys can see the latest 33 miles has about 2.1 miles/kwh. From what I remember, last 500 miles has been about 2.8-3.0 on average. From what I have seen in this forum, you guys seems to have about 3.5 and above.

Here are my driving mode
1. smooth mode with standard regen. I have tried the high regen mode for 200 miles and found the efficiency is even worse and the lucid customer support guy mentioned that high regen make the car very sensitive to the gas petal.
2. active unlocking is disabled so that the car is not keeping locking and unlocking
3. I live in California and the weather is definitely not cold. The lowest temperature today is 50F ish. I will be using AC but usually pretty low.
4. I would press the gas petal firmly on the ramp but not every time on highway and not like super crazy.

Curious if folk has suggestions. Does this indicate any defect of the car?

"Since last charge" numbers include "overhead costs" (speculation: basically energy usage when you are not in gear)... think an ICE motor that is running while you are parked. The Trip numbers are for when you are actually driving (speculation: when you are in gear). Your trip A number looks closer to your trip B than to the SLC (which may be a hint). Listening to music in the car? Leaving a door/trunk/frunk open? Pre-conditioning the battery or interior before driving? Parking after a DCFC (and thus running the AC compressor to cool that battery off)?

I see your point about the "since last charge". Maybe it includes the period that my car was idle for 1 week during my onsite last week. But isn't the Trip A and B (3.0 to 3.3) average Mile/Kwh is still on the lower side? I think other folks is getting about 3.5-3.7 on the 19' tire.

1. I don't stay in the car listening to music for extended amount of time. Well, if my lucid has the software from Tesla, I would play game and watch Netflix in the car. but it is not
2. The AC and heating was pretty low before or while driving. The weather in CA is not bad last few month so don't need to AC that much.
3. not leaving the door and truck open.
 
This matches my numbers pretty closely on 19s in a 2025 touring. I do almost exclusively city driving. I’ve been pretty disappointed too but the highway range is about what I expect at around 3-3.5 which I’m fine with.
 
Over the last 56k miles I have averaged 3.0 MKwh on 19s. I keep it in smooth mode 95 percent of the time also high regenerative but I live in a hilly area with typical New York weather so I guess this is about normal.
 
OPs numbers sound pretty low to me. I have an AGT and do mostly non-highway driving. I am generally in the 3.5-3.8 range (which is a couple tics higher than before the 2.8.9 update).
 
Highway speed is the most impactful on your mi/kWh than almost everything else.

What is your average speed? Anything over 70 mph and you’ll be dipping into the 2s.

Nothing in your data suggests a defect.
Your 2.1 mi/kWh snapshot is too short to judge, and your long-term 2.8–3.0 mi/kWh is normal for California driving at average highway speeds.
 
I got my AT with 19 inch wheels at the end of June. So far I've driven approximately 4800 miles and I'm averaging around 3.8 mi/kWh. This has gone done slightly since the weather has been getting colder. My driving is 60/40 highway and I rarely go above 75 mph.
 
Efficiency is due entirely to driving style, speed, and regen level. Yes regen can add 10% efficiency if used correctly. Moderation in acceleration can add 50%. Before I sold it I could easily achieve 4.2-4.5 in my AT. Average maybe 3.8-3.9. My Audi Q8 etron driven conservatively gets 1.8 in cold weather and 2.5 in summer.
 
I made my first distance trip with my AGT over the past several days. Wednesday I charged to 100% and drove from Detroit to Buffalo to attend the NCAA first round games. Used 82 kWh to travel 277 miles. That was 3.37 miles/kWh including pre-heating the cabin before leaving. Had 103 miles left on the clock when I arrived, so potentially 380 highway miles from 100%.

Coming back I left with 86% charge and used 79 kWh to travel 273 miles. That’s 3.45 mi/kWh. Both directions I was doing 70 - 75 mph fairly consistently. That’s better than my wife gets with her Model Y in city driving. On Wednesday temps were in the mid to high 30s. Driving back today I saw high 30s - mid 40s.

That seems really good. At 100% charge what range does it show and what size wheels are you running?
 
Thursday From San Carlos to Napa, 25 Air Touring, 4.13 miles/kWh (pic on arrival). Very warm (80's) some stop and go, speed mostly low-mid 70's but a few miles in the low-mid 80's when traffic allowed. Done this trip many times, and usually can manage around 4 miles/kWh. Trip B is lifetime, but as we live ~800 ft above sea level, we lose a lot coming back up the hill after going practically anywhere. Just zipping around, but not being crazy, lowish 3's are common when it's not cold.

Short'ish "since last charge" (like 10 - 30 miles) is often very misleading. I routinely can get the max 6.21 miles/kWh if I drive down the hill and "city driving" adjacent cities (25 to 40 mph, stop lights, etc) up till 25 miles or so, then it drops into the 5's/high 4's, but can easily be 3.0 by the time I drive back home.

Drove last summer from San Carlos to Palm Springs and got 4.1 at arrival, though on that trip (first long one in the car) I tried to maintain 72 mph most of the time as a test to see what kind of range I could squeeze out of it. That's was Trip A, never reset that since, so you can see regression to the mean.

All in all, very impressed with the efficiency, and I could certainly drive more conservatively (but where's the fun in that?).

Highway speed affects efficiency/range considerably; in general, roughly 15% to 20% per 10 mph for most EV’s.

From EV Motorway Range Test on a 2026 Tesla Model Y:
  • 50 mph: 4.45 mi/kWh
  • 60 mph: 4.00 mi/kWh
  • 70 mph: 3.31 mi/kWh
  • 80 mph: 2.73 mi/kWh
If we use 70 mph as the baseline, range/efficiency increase/decrease:
  • 50 mph: +34%
  • 60 mph: +21%
  • 70 mph: 0 %
  • 80 mph: -18%
