Does the Air infotainment copy music to a local drive on the car itself?

I ask because I loaded an album onto a USB to test it, and when it worked for a few seconds of the first song I removed the USB... and the entire album remains available to play - I can swap songs, skip, rewind, etc.

I've had cars in the past that would do that. One would even rip a CD for me.

I'll have to try it out in the Air, that would be sweet.

I enjoy the topic about moving music to your Lucid! It's useful for customizing the driving experience. Have you discovered any specific formats that work best for seamless playback, or do you have a preferred software for producing USB copies?

Looking into this it seems like the car is ingesting about 2-3 seconds of each track, probably to assist with quick start. I don't know how long it retains it for.

Haven't tried seamless playback and my experience is there's a very short pause but it's not multiple seconds long.

I'm on a Mac, so in order to make sure everything is converted to either WAV or FLAC or M4A (Apple Lossless does not work) I'm using a program called XLD to convert everything to the format I want (FLAC is my go-to, why bother with this if you're not doing lossless audio?), and then to clean up the metadata to make sure everything (including artwork) is the way I want it, I'm using Tag Editor 2.

Other best practices is that since I can't seem to get playlists to work correctly, in order to do a "best of" playlist for an artist I copy tracks into a single folder and make a new album titles "Best of XXXX" and then use Tag Editor to put the tracks in the order I want.

Copy that to a correctly formatted USB and everything is working splendidly.
