Over the past 6 months or so I have had about 5 or 6 occasions in which I will walk up to car, it Auto Unlock’s due to sensing key but it also opens the trunk or frunk. Did this a couple days ago when it opened the frunk at first when I went to get in at the house and then a couple hours later, when I went to get in to return, it opened the trunk. Yes, this is a rare occurrence but if it were to open the trunk in my garage while garage door is closed, the trunk would hit the door and probably cause damage to trunk lid. No, this is not a dangerous issue but it could prove costly if it happens at the wrong time. I can see the argument now when I try to convince Lucid that the trunk opened on it’s own and they should repair the damaged trunk lid for free.

On a positive note, the auto unlock of the Key Fob is much improved with almost zero issues in past 6 months (other than the trunk/frunk opening issue.)

Don't take this the wrong way, but I have to ask because it's happened to me an embarrassing number of times... are you absolutely sure you didn't mash the buttons on the fob in your pocket/bag by accident?

when i am approaching a locked and sleeping car with auto unlock enabled but i am not yet in auto unlock range, like if i am carrying groceries and i want the frunk/trunk to be open by the time i get there, pressing the unlock/frunk/trunk open buttons on the fob within reasonable range as i walk up usually doesn’t feel like it’s doing anything.

then by the time i walk up to the car, the doors unlock and the frunk/trunk opens, along with a delayed frunk/trunk opening chime.

what i feel like is happening is that the car is sleeping and needs a moment to wake up, and the request to unlock or open the frunk/trunk is queued. i wonder if this is what is happening to OP (perhaps an inadvertent button press during walk up).

if i am walking up to the car and just using auto unlock without trying to get into the frunk/trunk, i feel like the car does a better job “hiding” the wake up delay.

this experience is in contrast to more traditional cars, where i feel like unlock and trunk buttons on their provided fobs work immediately.

i just chalk this up to a character-defining quirk of the vehicle.

I had thought about that but it is impossible to be sure. But in 30+ years of driving cars with fobs that have trunk release buttons on them, I never had similar issues. If it is the fob, then the fob needs to be redesigned. Also, it always happens at the exact time I get to car and it unlocks. I have checked and the trunk/frunk unlock buttons work from longer distance than door unlock sensors, so if it was an in pocket trigger, I would notice the trunk/frunk opening before I reached the car.

I just did a test. I remained about 30 ft away from car, with car locked. I hit the frunk button and it opened without unlocking the car. Then when I get to about 5-8 foot away, the car unlocks. In all my instances of spontaneous trunk/frunk opening, it has happened at exact time of me getting into car. I have not however identified if it happens at door unlock or at door open but my memory seems to think it is timed with door unlock. Will try to pay attention if/when this happens again.

The biggest problem with this issue is that it is so random that if I ever brought in to SC, I would most likely get a “we could not replicate the problem” response.

100% agree. I look forward to mobile key so I can ditch the fob again. But yeah, the only times I can remember accidentally pressing buttons on other fobs it was the panic button, because that was always easier to press. It feels like all of Lucid's buttons have less resistance than average.
