I wonder if there are statistics available for the kinds of problems owners are having (perhaps by year of car). I got this idea from reading about the Consumer's 7% reliability rating.

For example, from reading this forum, there were a bunch of issues in early models that are now pretty well under control. That is good.

On the other hand if one created a bucket called (Fobs, Access, Locks, Phone Access), my gut feeling is that around half the complaints would be in that bucket.

Does anyone know of this data? It would be handy for Lucid to have to see where to concentrate efforts.

Crowdsourced from this forum, definitely not statistically significant, and likely very self-selected, but: https://www.lucidupdates.com/surveys/bugsurveyresults.html

The vast majority of people don't have issues with their cars. The build quality has improved significantly from the early days.

But bugs definitely exist, and issues can crop up.

The most common ones I've seen are:
1. fob/mobile key access - about 50% of this has been user error, but that's arguably still Lucid's fault for not making it easy enough
2. LiDAR complains when it rains - but this does not seem to affect anything other than a minor annoyance for about three seconds.. Pretty much 100% of people I've spoken to have seen the error though.
3. Proactive HV Battery replacements - Lucid gets remote diagnostics and will call you to schedule a service before your battery has a problem, if they think there is a chance that it might. This is not common, but the early detection is a really nice feature. Used to be that it could just stop you with a 2-minute warning.

The drive motor failures are very very uncommon, though of course it can happen.

In general, the car is quite reliable, with software bugs, and unlocking, being the main things people usually complain about.

Why it has a score of 7% from CR was hotly debated here, and nobody I've spoken to has gotten a survey from CR except for one person who hated the car. 🤷‍♂️

Borski: Thanks very much!!! The fact that Lucid will remote diagnose is a great feature!!

I am no advertising guru, but i think that Lucid needs to up its PR, including this.

P.S. - I note that Hyundi is having recalls due to their version of the Wunderbox.

Thanks again,
Steve

I have filled out 2 surveys this year about my Lucid ownership that were sent via EVGO about charging and one about EV reliability from JD Power. Not exactly sure where that information goes from there, but I complained about the 3 things that were effectively corrected by a service visit 3 months into owning the car. None were anything critical and were just minor annoyances or in the category of 'hey this is kind annoying for a brand-new luxury car near 6 figures' except that if you googled any of the issues you get the same results from a bunch of other vehicles.

CR broke down the reliability rating into six categories with five ratings (worst, worse than average, average, better than average, best.:

powertrain -- worst
steering and suspension -- best
Brakes -- best
climate system -- worst
Build quality -- worst
in car electronics -- average

CR also compared its reliability (presumably using the same criteria) with other vehicles:

Lucid Air - rating 7

vs. Similar Cars reliability rating

BMW i4 -- rating 82

BMW i5 -- -- rating 53

Porsche Taycan -- rating 49

Tesla Model S -- rating 35

Mercedes-Benz EQE - rating 30

Mercedes-Benz EQS - rating 30

Polestar 2 -- rating 25

I’ve owned my Hyundai Ioniq 5 since 2023. It has been in service 8 times, five for the ICCU, most recently in February.

And Hyundai has never shipped me an OTA that worked. 100% of the time I’ve had to load the new firmware via USB.

It’s still a fine car.

Every car can have issues. 🤷‍♂️

My strong suspicion is that they do not have statistically significant data and are being somewhat dishonest and/or misleading by posting it anyway, without disclosing that. I’m not suggesting they have nefarious intentions at all; it’s an easy mistake to make, though I would have put it below my expectations of CR.

Of course that’s my assumption, but the Lucid Air’s reliability is definitely not a 7, lol.

I'm not sure about 50% being user error. in my case there's nothing much to do, i have setup my iPhone for mobile key access and it is still is not very reliable. pressing the door knobs wouldn't always unlock the car, sometimes i have better results when i take the phone out of pocket and sometimes even that doesn't help and i have to unlock the phone and open the Lucid app. to add salt to the wound, Lucid app is one of the highest battery drainers on my phone even when i'm not driving/using the app at all.

About half the time I help someone with mobile key, they have never set up mobile key, and had been using the Lucid app and pushing the button to unlock, entering their PIN, because they didn’t know how to make it work automatically.

That’s what I mean by user error.

There are a lot of small things that may be affecting reliability rankings. My car has been in the shop more than any other vehicle I've owned in the 9 months I've had it, but none of the issues have really been significant:

2x subwoofer replacement
2x steering wheel replacement
2x frunk repair

Stuff like that can really hit reliability ratings.
