Tire sealant kits choice? Not so simple.
Critical information is omitted from the likely only reliable independent review (2021 in Consumer Reports mag) Amazon’s information does not make it easy either.
I do not know if Lucid engineers really tested this. And there is ONE BIG ISSUE everyone should know about and most do not.
One place on Lucid Owners it is said that Lucid OEM’d the FixandGo kit. FixandGo is made by TEK srl headquarters in Italy.
Others in our Lucid Owners group have purchased the AirmanResQPro+ ( Consumers Reports first choice) headquarters in Germany.
Both systems are similar. Both claim OEM sales/supply to all major automobile makers. But today the FixandGo and the Lucid labeled kit are not available. FixandGo had a September 40% off sale and no longer does the web list USA delivery (?tariffs?).
Skip to my LARGE CAP BELOW for the BIG issue. If you want to know all that I have done, just continue reading.
The concept works. Many rebrands. So maybe some are same but it is a guess when online. The pump and sealant are each ok. As is the simple connection for this sealent: compressor connects to sealant bottle which connects to tire and sealant successfully enters tire without removing tire valve stem.
Look for sealant that does NOT require removing tire valve stem.
All sell sealant canisters ( ie for second use) but if you have a small compressor already just the sealant canister may suffice. Compressor hose to canister, canister hose to tire.
Extensions to reach all tires are needed. Either $13 power cord -long electrical cord may reduce power- or $6 air hose. I like to keep pump clean in car).
Consumer Reports tests and most other reviews claim efficacy for <6 mm holes. I don’t even know how to measure it in real life! So there must be many times that it is just a guessing game.
BUT THE BIG ISSUE:
HOW MUCH SEALENT is needed for LUCID tires?
Both Airman and Tek sell various size canisters. ( shelf life claimed 5 years). Airman specs their most common ResQPro+ kit (450ml sealant) for 20 inch max wheels. (But it really depends on interior volume and/or surface area of tire) So I don’t really know. The blog noted failures may simply be wrong quantity of sealant. And no one emphasizes this.
Amazon highlighted ResQPro+ ( pictured on our blog) uses15 amp /12v compressor connection.
Amazon Airman Store has two different 450 ml canisters( not sure the difference but one says it has a universal connection to any compressor and one manufacturer number ends in 1 and other 3)
Amazon has ANOTHER AIRMAN KIT not in Airman store and harder to find: the ResQ Max . It has a 25 amp draw compressor and alligator clip-to-battery power. Extension air hose is included in Max ‘yellow kit’. 620 ml Sealant canister. Description: “Great for SUV, Pick-Up Mini Van Crossover Vehicles and More” Only $16 more than ResQPro+ . Clearly the manufacturer is indicating that larger (25amp) compressor is more appropriate for larger tires. And more sealant is needed.
AGT solution?
12v battery is directly under trunk 12v outlet. So could use Max for large wheels. Or just Pro+ for less fuss ( if it doesn’t overheat/ fail). Or use independent non kit compressor and canister.
GGT Compressor SOLUTION?
Could use Airman ResQPro+ but risky it’s too small. Max Kit 25 amp alligator clips have no easy access to battery. If Max + Lucid power outlet option one could use 1) Max + separate AC/DC Transformer but it’s inconvenient. ( if anyone knows of a simple small one this judgement could change.) or 2) use independent small -$60-70 110vAC/12vDC portable dual cylinder mini compressor.
Question : Will or does the smaller ResQPro+ compressor overheat ?
Could someone who has an Airman Q Pro+one check the specs of compressor? (Amp draw, wattage, max psi, liters volume per minute are some of the specs that let one compare). Nice to compare.
SEALANT QUANTITY/ Canister Size
Likely a single 450ml is too little for many if not most Lucid tires. Would love it if Lucid can or would illuminate us on this. Meanwhile anyone’s guess.
620ml refill is on Amazon but not in Amazon’s Airman store.
450ml canister=$28
620ml canister =$49.
No matter AIR or Gravity I will have two canisters either size.
