I have seen a number of posts here on subwoofer installs and read them all, but have a few clarifying questions. Although I feel like the bass has improved substantially in my GT with SSP last few months from when I first test drove it, I still feel like it could use more. I am not confident doing it myself in this car, although I may have tried in my old Lexus
.
Two different shops quoted options, with both agreeing a Hertz MPBX 250 S2 would be a very solid option given my objectives and not much more expensive than the cheaper brands. My goal is to maintain the clean sound, I don't need neighborhood shaking levels, but want more punch. However, there is wide variance in their approaches:
1. One shop is substantially more expensive, and says they'd likely remove the original sub so that sounds travels better into the main cabin (although I read of concerns that doing so could wreck the atmos effect). They also recommended a higher end mono amplifier compared to the first shop (an Audison SR 1.600). They would mount it in the footwell of the trunk.
2. The other shop quoted a very easy install and a lesser amp from Recoil. They could do a better amp but originally said they've had really good results from the recoil. They also said they could install it in the footwell or the back of the top portion of the trunk.
Is there a sound advantage depending on where the sub is placed? And is it really necessary or advantageous to remove the original subwoofer? I am assuming given the ease of installs in the forum, that I can go with the cheaper installer (both have a long history in the area and the same star rating for reviews online), but I'd love another opinion before I touch the new car!!
