Steering - play and creaking from column

Not a creak exactly, but I had a ratchet-like clicking sound from the steering column that was fixed by replacing an internal piece of the steering column rather than the wheel.

Did this resolve your steering wheel ratcheting sound? I am having a similar issue on my ‘25 Air Pure.

steering wheel replacement, you mean. I think the problem come from the electric unit that translates steering into wheel movement. That would explain inconsistent play. The creaking no no comes from the wheel itself, but from the plastic unit behind, and potentially deeper.

Did you ever get resolution of your noise? I have a '25 Pure and started this ratcheting noise deeper behind the wheel with turning at low speeds. Steering otherwise is fine, but troublesome and loud. Wondering if steering wheel replacement would fix or if they have to look deeper.

I had a couple of steeing wheels serviced and replaced.. Mine were a couple different issues... One was the shroud or housing around wheel.. Another was some play internally with airbag mounting and internal assembly. Third time was charm

Thanks. And from your posts it sounds like there was noise deeper into the steering column - was this primarily when you made turns at low speed? I am now hearing a ratchet or pop or crunch type noise when I turn either direction more than 90 degrees. Like something is loose or broken inside the column.

I get that but I think it’s from the suspension, it sounds like a strut tower. But does it bad on turns.

It turns out my noise was coming from a loose cable connected to the frunk. The steering column was catching it and making an inconsistent noise like a ratchet along the steering column.

This was entirely Lucids fault as they had just repaired the frunk and other wiring on a recent repair after which this noise emerged.

Noise is now gone thankfully!
