Starlink Mount

Wow, you've done a lot of work for this. lol. Do you really need it to be mounted inside all the time? I guess for work or kids in bacK?

I just used mine all Summer in a ton of places. I have the Mini and throw it on a light stand...it only takes 2 minutes and obviously gives you more flexibility in moving it to find the best spot, even if your car is under trees in shade. I also have the PeakDo battery on there so no cable is even needed if under 3-4 hours of use. Most of the time, I'd just plug it in anyways so I could use overnight and not worry about the battery dying. Unlimited StarLink @ $175/month is a lot but was worth every penny considering no cell connection in many places out West.

(By the way, ONE TIME I used it without the stand in Northern California. I just put it in the grass. It worked fine. But thankfully I looked at it when I picked it up as a bunch of little bugs had crawled between the PeakDo battery & Starlink...assuming for the warmth. There were many and I'm SO SO happy I saw them before throwing the bug-infested device on my bed in back of the car. lol)

I'm sure your use case is different but thought I'd mention this in case others are considering the pluses/minuses of mounting vs a stand. I was going to mount (and have one un-used) and decided against it.

Need to be mounted outside on the roof, you mean? That's the only time we use it - during a road trip drive. It won't work from the inside thru the Gravity roof glass.

I guess I could just leave it on the roof when we're not on a road trip but I really don't need the Starlink when just driving around near home. We have good-enough cell service around home (via the phone for AA), and don't set up the TV for those short drives. Just the long road trip days. I'd rather take it down when we're not on a road trip, both in case someone tries to steal it, and because it looks kinda goofy on the roof. Worth it for a road trip drive day though.

Sorry, I was unclear. I don't mount mine to the car. See my photo here on far right side. The PeakDo battery on there has a mounting point for a cheap light stand.

I will add you can close the back hatch on the cable at the top and it will not break the cable. I did this nearly every time camping...plugging into my power bank or the rear AC outlet.

Ah, yes, much easier if just using it when parked. Can pretty much just set it anywhere.

If I were camping like that, I might just set it on the roof anyway, then just plug into the outlet and close the liftgate on the cord (I'm doing that now and it doesn't seem to have an issue running the cord through the liftgate gap). I looked at batteries but yeah, they only seem to hold 3-4 hours and I need 10+ for a drive day. But the outlet can stay on indefinitely even when the car is off (I think... not sure if there's a time-out but I think people have said they've left them on all night).
