Curious if other people have run into this bug. I set up my schedule for charging to be 12:00 am, to take advantage of low electricity rates optimized for EVs (for those like me in NorCal, PG&E's rapid rate increases have made EVs much less economical than even 5 years ago). Yet, the car randomly starts charging anyway, once at 5pm and again around 8:20pm, during pretty much the peak hours of the day. Is the car/app just bugged, or am I misconfiguring something?

Yeah I too have same issue. When scheduled, starts/stops charging randomly. At times I wake up in the morning and realize that it didn't charge.

I see some inconsistencies in charging times outside of the specified schedule as well and sometimes the scheduled charging option doesn’t even show up in the app (though car always seems to show it).

I added scheduled charging on the L2 home charger itself as a precaution.

You have to be a little careful with that, as the Air (and I assume the Gravity) will not wake up and start charging when using externally-scheduled charging. I think it would work if you also set the car's charge schedule to coincide with the external charger's schedule, as the car will usually wake up for its internal schedule. In that case, the external schedule would provide an additional check on the car's charging sanity.

I thought that might be an issue, so the home charger is scheduled to start 5 mins before Gravity's start time. So when car wakes up, it always gets power.

Yes, i have been getting same issue. Car is schedule to start charging at 12:05am. I plug it in, it says charging scheduled but then sometime later,45 minutes, a few hours, it starts charging before the scheduled time (at higher electricity rates). If i stop it then it does not restart charging at it scheduled time.

This is a completely unacceptable bug. Lucid's been selling cars for years now and they can't get charge start scheduling right? Something a second year college student should be able to program? Tesla had this working in Roadster almost 2 decades ago.

Tesla recently added a charging period option. You can say when the low rate starts AND when it ends. When you plug in, if the car rate available isn't enough to fully charge by the next charging period end, you get a warning. Otherwise, if you plug in during the middle of the period, it just starts charging, stops at the end, and resumes at the next charging period start. And, you even get to have multiple charge scheduling scenarios, and choose which one to enable.

Wow, Tesla was behind on that. My 2011 Leaf had a charge scheduling window.

Yeah, I don't know what took Tesla so long.
An even cooler feature that I miss w/ my Gravity is their "charge by solar": you can plug in any time, and if you have Tesla Solar and/or a Powerwall, it'll redirect any excess solar capacity towards the car so you net out not routing electricity to your utility while your car is not at its limit.

We do this with our Enphase IQ EVSE. It works well with other EVs, but for the Air I had to write an automation that keeps the car awake when plugged in.

I started charging at night and it charged ~5% and then stopped.

In the morning I went to the app and clicked on "Start Charging" and the behavior is in the image .
Its not first time I am seeing this, It randomly starts and stops the charging

Does any one have this weird issue?

Not just in the Gravity, but the Air too. Charging has a mind of its own. Sometimes with scheduled charging it starts charging anyways, but more often, it will not charge overnight. Just says “cable comnected” and never gotes to scheduled charging. Only when you wake up the car to leave in the morning does it decide to start charging.

Suffering from similar issues. I got caught a few times with an empty battery and forced to charge at much more expensive rates so I can get to where I'm going, instead of charging at the super off peak rate overnight.

Here's my setup:
1. Tesla universal wall connector, scheduled to begin charging at 2:30 am
2. Air Touring scheduled to begin charging at 3:30 am

The reason I have it setup that way is to know for certain that the Tesla wall connector will be definitely turned on before the car attempts to charge.

Here's what happens every evening:
1. I plug the charger into the car
2. The car attempts to begin charging immediately, even though it's programmed to not begin charging until 3:30 am
3. The car's charging indicator turns red (because the Tesla charger is set to only allowing charging after 2:30 am)
4. I unplug and re-plug the charging cable
5. This time the car doesn't attempt to charge, and the charging indicator is solid white
6. Wake up the next morning to find the car either charged (30% of the time) or not charged (70% of the time)

When I open the Lucid app to check whether the car charged or not, that ends up waking up the car and triggering the charging process, in the 70% of the time that the car did not charge overnight.

It's very frustrating. Hard to believe such a simple concept cannot be executed properly by Lucid.

when I ran into similar issues with the scheduling. it seems to be always when I went into garage, and car sense me approaching and unlocks car, my car keys are hanging by garage door - close enough for car to sense. whenever this happens, I hear my Tesla wall charger clicked, and it starts charging. Or times when I unlocked car to actually get something out of the car, and it starts charging. To me at least, it seems to be triggering after car sleeps and wakes up, either from unlocking, or opening door (which unlocks of course). Didn't have time to test with keys in Faraday pouch.

Yes, this happened to me too. My GGT is only 2 weeks old and has done this only once so far.
I hope it doesn't repeat.

So it's been a few weeks since I've posted this thread, and I've observed the car's behavior over this time. Here's what I can surmise:
  • When I plug the charger in, the car schedules a charge in the future—in my case, to start at 12 am. This shows up in the car's dashboard, and the phone app gets a notification to boot.
  • Whenever I wake the car up—sometimes getting the fob close enough to the car to unlock its doors, sometimes by opening the Lucid app, or even by tapping on that notification which opens the app—the car does a double take and starts charging immediately. It's particularly not obvious in the app b/c I think it shows the car's status with a little bit of lag. So can you do something like: tap on notification → check the schedule is correct → close app and in the background the car woke up from the app and started charging immediately.
If I'm right, then all the car has to do is double check the scheduled charge before it wakes up and stop itself from sucking down electrons until when the scheduled charge hits.

It seems that scheduled charging is implemented in the Air by sending it to deep sleep until charging is supposed to begin, then waking it with a command sent from Lucid's cloud. Charging does not appear to be locally scheduled by hardware in the car. In the past, waking it through any means during this sleep has always immediately initiated charging.
It would be nice if the Air checked if it was supposed to charge, or not, each time it wakes up.

Maybe this unusual charge scheduling method is due to hardware limitations in the Air. It's why externally scheduled charging isn't readily possible on the car.
It appears to be fixed in Gravity.

Just another person that this doesn't work for. I set it to charge at 10:00 AM (that's the super low rate where I live). Just got back to the house (3:00 pm), plugged it in and then minutes later it starts charging. I turned off the charging via the app, and I suspect it won't start charging at 10:00 AM. Is there some way to get some feedback from Lucid that they know this bug exists and are working to fix it?

I believe the charge window is 12 hours from your scheduled start time, so 3pm is still within that window. If you have it set to start at 10:00 AM, then charging will start anytime you plug in between 10:00 AM and 9:59:59 PM
