I've seen some pretty good deals on some Lucid Airs with salvage titles. Since I don't plan on selling when I get one, I have a different question. Does anyone know if an Air with a salvage title will still get the over-the-air software updates?
 
I wouldn’t do it. Just bought a used 2025 and I’m very happy it is and was warrantied. Already had a mobile tech refasten the sway bar.
Additionally, will Lucid support software updates on a salvage title? I wouldn’t touch one with a 10’ pole.
 
Yeah, that's the whole point of this post. I'm trying to find out if Lucid will still be providing software updates. Thanks for your reply! On further review, the car has a rebuilt title not a salvage title. Subtle difference, I know...

Nobody here will have the answer. You’ll have to go through Lucid.
 
Theoretically I would expect that the car would receive software updates. But frankly that would be the least of my concerns with a rebuilt or salvage title. There are very few Lucid authorized body shops. And I suspect that those that do exist are not authorized, nor would they take on, rebuilds. That leaves the question of who’s doing the work, how did they source parts, and who trained them. It’s a given that the warranty is voided so you’re taking a huge risk that could result in an inoperable car or potentially endanger your life. And you’ll need to find an insurer willing to take that risk with you.

Also, I highly doubt anyone will insure it for physical damage.
 
I bet you won’t be allowed to fast charge/supercharge a salvage title car, and that’s a good thing as a compromised battery or charging system can be catastrophic at a supercharger.
 
USAA requires an inspection if you want full coverage. A salvage title car requires a state inspection after repairs to receive the rebuilt title, so it will already have had one inspection.
 
I've seen salvage and rebuilt titled vehicles listed for sale at very low ($30-40K prices). I can see why someone would be enticed to pull the trigger on one. But I think there's a big adjustment for the risk of ownership in those prices. My first move would be to call Lucid to see what, if any, support they would provide on a rebuilt car. Can it be serviced by their mobile fleet or service center? Are you able to register the car with Lucid to recieve OTA updates? Those "deals" on safvage/rebuilt titles might carry huge risk if Lucid won't provide ongoing service and support for the car. There's a reason why they have authorized service centers and body shops. As a Lucid owner I'm far more dependent on the manufacturer than any other vehicle I've owned. Relying on that support is part and parcel of owning the car.
 
I was thinking recently of how realistic it might be to find an insurance wrecked Air that has the CCCV2 find out how to remove it, and find out if Lucid SC would install/program it into my car! Unlikely, but a fun idea.

Do you think that all of that could be done for less than $950? And even if it could would it be worth it?

My guess is that the SC doesn’t have much if any interest in installing used parts harvested from a salvage vehicle. What might be fun for you could be a major headache for them.

Well, leaning more towards places that part out wrecked vehicles. Was more of a thought experiment for a tinkerer than a legitimate option.🙃

Salvaged cars do not receive updates and can't use the mobile app.
Lucid will also not provide any service or repair and are preventing their approved body shop from doing that either.
Anything bad that happen to the car will instantly transform it into a non repairable giant paper weight.
They will tell you that you can have the car inspected and if it pass, they will resume services.
The inspection requires a mandatory $20k in parts and 187 hours of labor. LOL.
When it comes to right to repair, they are one of the worst in the industry.
 
Ah yes. Right to repair. I remember those days.
