Removing front cup holders in Gravity

Had the unfortunate event of spilling some coffee the other day

Thought I'd share how I took out the cup holder and what it looks like, since I have not seen anything related here:

1. Remove the top plastic cover trim by prying and lifting up from either the front (of car) side or the back (the LED side)
   
   
   
   
   
2. Pull the cup holder straight up - you have to pull with some force here, since it is inserted to the hard plastic trim below w/ 6 small 'tabs' (only through friction)

Thanks for the tip. I planned to 3d print a custom insert for my wife's favorite insulated coffee cup that doesn't fit the current design. Read that the insert could be removed but was scared to pull hard enough apparently. I'll post when I make something.

According to update video from @EngineeringExplained, Lucid is working on new version of cupholders.
Car builds in 1st-half of 2026 will have them, and yes, including retrofit cupholder for existing owners.

First I tried printing some rings to hold the rubber out. 3D plastic was too weak so made temporary metal rings shown below for now.

The problem is that only a Budweiser can will fit in the cupholders. If you want an insulated cup they neck down and become excessively tall to hold anything.

My wife prefers a short fat cup, not shown that wouldn't fit in the cup space even with the rubber removed. I'm thinking of removing the whole sliding tray since I don't need an iPhone heater or a place to put glasses that is to small and inconvenient. I'll post a picture of the concept later.

Not a pretty or perfect solution... but I sometimes use this $10 cup holder expander/adapter to fit larger bottles and cups - Amazon Basics Cup Holder Expander

That would be interesting. I was looking up how to do it and couldn't find any info. I find the sliding tray to be stupid, personally.
