I'm not excited by these hypermiling games. The first few times, it was cool to see all the tricks pulled to improve driving efficiency. But it's all so far removed from real world driving that it just seems irrelevant these days.

Yeah, it's just for information only. When you read the article, you see that driving to maximize mileage really takes the fun out of it. But it does give context to all the many threads here dedicated to "why is my mileage not as good as I expected"...
