Range test Bay area to San Diego

Makes me want to bring Stella down to San Diego now.

Looks like I could theoretically make it to LA without charging in my Touring, at least. Any way you slice it, I'd only need to charge once. Which makes it very reasonable.

My biggest "issue" is the car is just so much fun to accelerate it's very difficult to drive sedately!
This is my "problem" too. Needed a set of 4 new tires even before 20K miles hit.

I’ve done it in the GT during summer probably averaging about 75mph (doing 80 at times) from SF to Santa Clarita. I was sweating it going up the grapevine but it is “doable”

I think if I stuck to 65/70mph I wouldn’t have been cutting it so close. I pulled into the driveway with pretty much everything shut down and 0% SoC.

I tend to just do a 5 to 10 min charge at Kettleman City now as the anxiety wasn’t worth it. Only time where I thought “I think I’m going to have to call Lucid with my tail between my legs and ask for a tow” 😂 .

Been almost there a few times. I think my lowest SoC was 4%, though. I've never seen 0.

2% here. The stress is real.

1% here but I was driving locally. However, I was stressed for the last 15 minutes of my ride to home :)

I should’ve taken a pic for bragging rights but that was the least of my worries at the time 😂

You guys are nuts. I think I've hit like ... 7%? And that was once, and otherwise I've never hit anything below like 18% lol.

It honestly doesn't really make sense, because in my Mazda I'd run out of gas and rely on the reserve tank *constantly* lol. It's just the home charging that makes it so much more convenient.

Pfft….. 7%….. weak sauce 😂

We plan every trip to arrive at a charging station with no less than 25% charge left. Our experience with EA on the east coast has left us in terror of arriving at a charging station and not being able to charge, no matter how much waiting and hassle we’re willing to endure. As DCFC alternatives are often not close, we keep a significant range reserve.

I actually don’t mind stopping every 2-3 hours for a charge, as I don’t like to do anything that resembles hyper-miling, and it breaks the monotony of long trips on the interstates. It’s the aggravation of dealing with EA that is the downer.

If we take another road trip in our Lucid, we’re going to plan on using ChargePoint as the primary charging stop, even though we still have 8 months of free EA charging. But, frankly, after the charging hassles on our current trip, our next EV road trip might be in our Tesla, all the harsher ride, cruder seats, and higher noise level notwithstanding.

It’s not worth the anxiety. My preference is EVGo if they’re along the route and I just pay. Whilst they’re not perfect either, they’re more reliable than I’ve found EA to be.

Agree 100%...our family cannot sit inside a car for 2 hrs also..so we stop and charge... usually I use EA but one a long trip recently I used the Mercedes/Charge point charger and it was crazy fast and felt like how charging should be. Sure I paid for it but that's how the experience should be.

2% here. The stress is real.
2% club. I tried really hard for 1% one day, but I was not aggressive enough with the pedal.

Even Lucid employees get a little worried around the 10% mark. Showed up at the Atlanta Service Center and left with 9% and no specific charging stations in mind. Would have thought it was at 2% given they specifically asked if I knew the SoC.

I’ll always run it low when road tripping. Yes, 1%\2% may be a little aggressive but I want to take advantage of the charging curve to just get in and out of the charger and you only get the high speeds at a low SoC. I didn’t purchase the Lucid to charge at 150kW, I purchased it to charge at 250kW/300kW. :p

If I could preset the Nav to say arrive at charger/destination with x% I’d be happy. Now I’m constantly calculating the miles per kW etc. to try and get myself into a charger with low SoC. For example, I’ll leave home with 50/60% only when heading to SF, typically floor it on the I5 to pull in at Kettleman City with around 15%. Plug in, go to the gas station to grab a drink, come back, disconnect and continue on. That’s the only stop I need to make and it’s usually no longer than 5 to 8 minutes. It’s basically like stopping for gas and it’s how it should be

Caveat being relying on EA to actually have a working charger that’s not power limited.
