This was an interesting one for me, but I figured it out and fixed it with a little help on the phone from my local SC. In Boston the past few days, we've had a LOT of rain, and the puddles have been rather large. As usual, I drive through them at normal speeds (30-40mph) and there's a huge spray and everybody laughs, etc.
Flash forward to this morning, I go to open my frunk, and it opens about 2" then just stops and slams shut. Frunk button on my dash panel is blinking, and no matter what I try, the frunk only opens about 2" then closes itself.
Spoke with the local SC and they said while it's scary, I can reach under the hood once it's open and force it up to open it. It was tough to do because it's not opening very far and it closes itself very quickly. But I got it. As I pulled the hood up, I heard some interference on the passenger side.
Looking more closely over there, all that plastic-work was out of place (I'm talking about the plastic that extends all the way over the wheel). Apparently the spray from the puddles dislodged it enough that it began to interfere with the hood opening. I was able to secure it back into place (not without some effort. There's a bunch of rubber seals and the like that all need to be lined up just right) and now the frunk is opening and closing normally again.
So yeah, maybe this is old news! Maybe not. But if you find after some driving through some weather that your frunk doesn't want to open, you CAN force it open if you can grab under the front edge of the hood, and there very well may be some re-arranged plastic.
