It's cold here (well, single digits F, so cold for us) and we got an interesting new message from the Gravity charged in the driveway on the mobile charger with a 50A plug:

It's been charging fine the past few days, but it's very odd to see 9kW as "not enough power to charge" due to the cold.

Were you running HVAC at the same time? Did the car ever charge?

I had a similar experience in my driveway with my Air a couple of weeks ago. I drove to a DCFC and it was fine.

However, you can try something I couldn't. I was below 20% SOC so I didn't want to use the preconditioning function to warm the battery and use what little energy I had to do so. If it didn't work, I would not have had enough energy left to drive to the DCFC which was 20 miles away. With your SOC, you could unplug, run the preconditioning to warm the battery and then plug back in and see if it will charge then.

FWIW, I'm not convinced that my car wouldn't charge because of the temp of the battery... I have a hunch that it was at least in part due to the temperature in my garage where the mobile charging cable was plugged in (NEMA 14-50). Trying to get my girlfriend's kid to close the garage door is an exercise in futility so it was well below freezing inside the garage for an extended period of time.

Is your cable plugged into an outlet in a climate controlled area?

I have/had similar issue where car is outside and wall charger is inside. I didn’t get the “need more power” alert, but it would only charge to the blue part of bar. It just wouldn’t warm up. Seems to take an absurd amount of power to heat battery. Then again, it was 10 degrees out. But still…

No rhyme or reason. I've had charging fail to initiate at 15F and had successful charging sessions at below 0F. But I never had the problem last winter or the winter before.

Was not running HVAC. Vehicle has eventually always charged fine. Just a surprising thing to see...
