Phantom Braking in Reverse

I noticed this too. I used to back into my sloped driveway w/ no problem... but now it freaks out and slams the brake on as I try to back in to charge and I'm left wondering if we now own one fewer cat or something

It would be helpful to go back and look at the video to try and figure out what it's seeing to cause the phantom braking.

Lately it seems like every time I back into a charging spot, the car thinks there's an obstruction in the way (when there isn't) and slams on the brakes.

When reversing in my wife's LEAF, the collision protection starts--as the Lucid does--with beeps to warn that there are objects nearby. If you continue to back up and the system believes hitting an object is imminent, the beeps turn to a steady tone. If you ignore the steady tone for more than a moment or two, the brakes are applied hard.

It is consistent and very predictable. The first time it occurred, though, it was quite startling.

Yesterday, I took my third test drive in the Air Touring. At the end of the drive, I began backing slowly into the designated parking spot. On either side were Lucid parking cones, and to my rear was a hedge (the boundary of the parking spot). The warning beeps started, but I had the necessary clearance and proceeded slowly into the parking spot. About 4 feet from the hedge (halfway into the parking spot) and without audible warning (no beeps that I recall), the Air hit the brakes hard. Dead stop. It was--like the first time with the LEAF--quite startling. I reapplied my foot to the accelerator and proceeded slowly. At the point where I wanted to stop, I removed my foot from the accelerator and... kept rolling! I had to put my foot on the brakes to prevent hitting the hedge. I was a bit unsettled by this behavior of the warning and braking system. I just did a test drive, so I know that Hold was set without me confirming it in Settings.

When these things happen, my first inclination is to believe that I simply don't understand the normal system operation; that's probably the case here, so I'll dive back into the Owners Manual.
