It happened under a very unlikely set of driving conditions. A possibility to be aware of though.
I think it's safe to assume that Lucid engineering is having a look at this result.

Yes, Kyle and his folks push these cars to extremes, so most of us won't encounter what they are going thru, but lucid still needs to address it just in case somebody does.

Were these the only cars in the race that suffered this issue?

I never think about the BMS lossing track. The only time I suffered reduced power was when I driving from MRG ski area to Catamount ski area. I arrived were I was staying (in Great Barrington) with around 8% remaining. Since the ski area was only 8 miles I did not worry. The next morning it was -20F. I limped into the ski area (with barely enough power for the driveway) where I plugged into an 80 amp charger. By the end of the day I had enough energy to go to Brooklyn and then back home.

To be fair, he said that many/most EVs will have this type of error if repeatedly driven and DC fast charged without any rest time. The BMS never gets a chance to recalibrate until the very end, so errors accumulate.

Gravity showed the problem at 8% and 9%, Rivian at 6% but possibly because that was the charge level the R1 pulled in at, not that it was some kind of threshold.
All sizeable error accumulations.

It wasn't really a big deal, the BMS issue re-adjusted after sitting for a second. After pushing for multiple days straight there was a small discrepancy on energy in the battery vs what the car thought. This is an "issue" but alsooooo not an issue for 99% of people 99% of the time hahaha. My understanding is that this will only happen under extreme driving and DC fast charging. (ill post my experience with it once the OOS stuff is out, specially if it isn't covered in those videos)

I just started it... It's not even the race, it's just the process to get the vehicles to Maine. The video of the actual race might require a 24 hours watching commitment

Seriously? Wow. This IS a great use case for AI. Even a 2+ hour video is crazy. He’s smart, but he’s not using the whole time to really provide valuable info. I think he needs to read “Smart Brevity”.

What he does it's called "monetization of content" The longer the video, the more ad revenue YouTube shares with him.

We own property in a county where the Commissioners are known to have 5-6 hour meetings. Good news is they drop the entire recorded video onto Youtube, which then spits out a transcript. I just drop the entire transcript into ChatGPT to summarize the meeting into bullet points, and then search for keywords that are relevant to me. Saves a LOT of time...

I just scrolled until Gravity showed up which is at around 2:10 into video and at that point is almost all Gravity until end of video. Bad news - cameras had glitched out and had major issues (that were probably fixed once Kyle figured out how to do reset at end of video). Good news, Gravity did great on snowy back roads.

Yes, Our Gravity got delivered and promptly exercised in the middle of a Chicago snowstorm. Not quite a back road, but no time to plow it. Had to force it into High ride height, it would sit down for exiting and clamp a bunch of snow into the wheel well...

You can turn off the feature that changes ride height on entry/exit. While Gravity has some distance to travel to make it to the destination of software competence, it sure drove well in the OOS pre-race trip, they called it a mountain goat in the snow. I’m excited to take mine to Maine and VT this winter.

I'm watching some of the OoS Motoring video in which they're getting the cars to Maine for the start of the race.

The absolute funniest part so far is when they're stuck in traffic on Interstate 95. One place is going through Richmond. I live just outside of Richmond, but I've been on that section enough to not be surprised at all they were stuck in traffic.

Hopefully during the race to Florida, one of the nav systems will route them around Richmond on 295.

In the DMV (DC, Maryland, northern VA) they found the EZ Pass lanes until ... not. Scot asks "Why do people live here?". Hilarious!!! DMV traffic makes Richmond look like an expressway.

I used to live up that way (Stafford) and OMG yes that traffic was insane. Absolutely what drove me from that area and I know it's only gotten worse. Kyle and Scott claimed they would pay every day for HOV/Hot Lanes but those prices during congestion can EASLIY cost you $30 or $40 each way. So like an extra $100 a day to get out of traffic? That's about 2k a month...there's a reason why those lanes are open!

Sounds like a physics issue though, so I doubt they will significantly improve this one issue. Still, good to know to immediately plug in—even into a 120–if I ever do a long trip and end close to empty.

Thanks for your videos by the way, you helped me learn that 3.3.9 somehow magically fixed my keycards not working even though that’s not what the update was for. And now I put my Uniden R8 where yours is and EZ pass in the left A pillar window because I was getting a crazy number of false radar alerts due to the mirror sensors triggering it right in the same Ka 33-34 band cops use.

Wait..can you post a pic of where you now put your Uniden R8?...I had seen the A pillar "wing vent" window mount you previously posted but missed where @Cyp has his

Not to get this thread off-topic and on to charging, but an interesting observation at the 39 minute mark of the video.
@Cyp is using a charger that has the NACS adapter connected/bolted to the CCS charging connector.
Users don't need to have a CCS-to-NACS adapter.

I'm still not sold on using CCS chargers because of the bulkiness and heaviness of the charging cables.
The weight of the cable, with an adapter attached, seemed to stress the NACS charge port on the car.
I want to avoid repeated use of a heavy charge cable resulting in a charge port with a loose connection.
