OTA 2.8.16

Hands free is supposed to work at lower speeds. It certainly does for me. They're wrong.

It has always worked for me from high speed to stop and go although I do get the red warning to take control when I always have my hands on the wheel at 3 and 9, which is annoying. The feature makes it easy to deal with long backups on the interstates.

I should make clear that it has taken me all of 3 years to learn how my car works.

I am old and don't like reading on-line, so I confess I have not thoroughly read the owner's manual: I prefer the old-school printed book that I can study over coffee / take into the loo. Problem is they can't be updated with changes in software updates. In the early years we used to discuss quirks here and the solution almost always was pilot error or solved by the various ways of rebooting the car, or solved by over-the-air software updates.

My car was built during the Global Pandemic when supply chains were broken. I suspect builders went to alternate manufactures to keep production from stalling. In the first week of ownership I had a faulty control module that was diagnosed and replaced by Mobile Service. I have not had a problem since, going on 3 years.

Be aware that many people post when the have "an issue". This does not represent the majority of Lucid owners.

Even today, I post about "issues" I think I have. Much to my chagrin it's usually (always) my fault: I didn't read the owner's manual and learn how the key fob or mobile phone or "Drive Assist" works (I can now avoid it completely) or as recently learned: studied the Lucid app. Also I think I imagine problems that "go away" by themselves (regenerative braking, Plug and Play at EA chargers). I really have a flawless car -- it's the nut behind the wheel that is causing distress. I don't like phones or digital switches or software or computers in general, so all too often it is I that is the problem.

So my counsel to frustrated folk: Keep Calm, and Carry On. Read you owner's manual. Be the change you want to see in the world.

Thank you! it worked for me before on the same freeway at lower speeds but like i said i got a feeling like the service department wanted to get done with me and i have stopped arguing in general with people so i just shut up and kept it moving.

My handsfree works flawlessly even in stop and go highway traffic jam. So, it does indeed work at zero mph.

Things this update has broken for me, that were previously, actually working as intended on 2.8.9

-DDPro: tried running me and my wife into the right barrier wall in LA, TWICE, and not slowly. Had there not been a significant shoulder, and my extreme paranoia this company can't make a decent software, there would have been a totaled Lucid on the 405. When I try to lane Change, the car either cancels, or when completes the change, screams "TAKE OVER NOW" after every left to right lane change. I can literally only go Left
-Efficiency has dropped by .4
-Keyless entry is again complete trash, was working flawless
-Audio issues cutting out. Sounds muffled, crackling, and airy when it does work.
-Camera start up issues, often fails
-Cooled seats turn off and then turn on the heated seats when turning down fan speed. Yea. The fuck?
-Black screens on entry for roughly 30-1 minute.

Great job Lucid! Your 3rd robustness update in a row has officially made the software more robust at being ass than it's possibly ever been!

What’s even worse is when you press the drive assist button and the set speed is dimmed out. Pressing the scroll wheel will also not cause the dimmed speed to be highlighted. It usually responds later on in the drive. This has been a problem in my car for several versions back.

My issue with hands free driving still persists, 5 minutes in, i get message saying 'take control' flashing in red. I also get message saying 'pay attention' when i am looking straight ahead. I am not sure if the internal camera staring at my face needs calibration, reset etc. My efficiency has dropped to 2.3kwh, from 3.9 life time and yes regen isn't the same. I did upgrade to 2.8.17 and all the above problems still persists. Mobile service has now been pushed back from 12/16 to 12/22, i am not sure if mobile tech will be able handle this issue but hoping for a Christmas miracle!

@Samo23 We are experiencing EXACTLY the SAME Symptoms for 2.8.16. since we both have Air G.T.P. !

I don't mean to scare you. However, I am afraid you might get the SAME SYSTEM DRIVE ERROR. I pray you get 2.8.17 A.S.A.P., otherwise AVOID flooring it or getting excessively bad miles per kWh (below 2.0 miles per kWh at ALL Cost.

As mentioned elsewhere here on the forum, your steering wheel may be adjusted too high. You need to see the camera box that’s wedged between the top of steering wheel and main screen in front of you. If that is blocked by any part of the steering wheel, you will get this behavior.

I read yours yesterday, was paranoid as well. My front drive motor sounds LOUD.....but I just downloaded 2.8.17 yesterday and I'm back to 3.6mi/kwh Pray that's the solution. Insane that bad software can nuke a car this badly.

A bit early to tell after recent OTA but initially my efficiency has fallen off a cliff. Certainly a bit colder here like 40 degrees or so and no interstate drives, but it has gotten my attention like never before over three winters. Range for short trips in same weather conditions was in the high 2s not high 1s. History over 26 k miles range 3.5 mkh

After 2.8.16 my 3 year old is in the low 2's (see my Post #116 above) I had been in the upper 3's. It has been cold here lately, 20 to 40 but my car is garaged rarely if ever under 40 degrees. I just now received 2.8.17 but I think I will wait to install until I AFTER charge tomorrow so I don't distort another week on .16 and I will better know what it is AFTER .17

As I noted a few days ago, my efficiency has declined significantly since the latest OTA. I have been through three winters with freezing temperatures but have not seen sub 2 mi/kWh. I seem to be the only one to notice a change. Just did a 60 mile interstate drive at 70 mph in 55 degree weather and still under 2.

Maybe this is a dumb question but are you finding that you are no longer able to travel the sane distance(s) without recharging sooner or more frequently? Maybe it is just the calculation itself that yields a lower result for the efficiency number, as someone opined that Lucid may have revised the formula used to calculate the efficiency number. Or not?

Not sure but I installed 2.8.27 last week and did not know that there was a problem with the previous OTA.

Thanks but I always use kWh used and actual miles driven so do not depend entirely on the car's calculation, although they have always been very close.

Installed last night, that's how much I trust these guys. Won't be able to drive today, maybe tomorrow. Hoping I run into zero problems.

Hi David,

Software versions 2.8.16 and 2.8.17 are two variants of the same build, dependent on VIN.

I can confirm that your vehicle is on the most current version of the software build per your VIN.

According to Bobby’s fantastic website, 2.8.17 was initially issued. I hadn’t received 2.8.17 by yesterday so I asked Lucid Customer Care. here is what the said:

Sounds like the same explanation I was given for my similar car about a month ago. The sad thing is that we have to fly blind for weeks trying to figure out the answer to questions that could so easily be resolved if Lucid sent out a little information via email when an OTA update is released. Simple stuff like what's in the update, what vehicles it applies to, etc.. Imagine how many calls to Customer Service could be averted. I can't fathom how such 'no brainer' stuff eludes a company that is smart in so many other ways, and I'm blue about it. Maybe that's how they got the color name.
