I find OPENLANE’s role with Lucid pretty interesting. They appear to be more than just the independent company doing lease-end inspections.
OPENLANE is also heavily involved in vehicle remarketing and wholesale auctions, including Lucids. My assumption is that its inspection data feeds directly into the disposition process: Lucid can identify the more desirable returns for its own pre-owned inventory, while the others move into wholesale channels handled by OPENLANE.
I doubt OPENLANE decides which cars Lucid keeps—that’s presumably Lucid’s call—but they already have the condition reports, photos and vehicle data needed to move the rest efficiently into auction. So they’re really part of the entire lease-return and remarketing pipeline, not simply an independent inspection agent.
