on the iPhone app.. are the 'open trunk/frunk' buttons just a suggestion we tell the car to do?

Maybe it's just me.. but on my new 25 airGT that's a week old.. on the app, with the car 'awake' and i'm either walking towards, or near the car and I use the app to open the trunk or frunk. and hit the confirm button.. nothing happens for about 15-20 seconds. .. sometimes never... and then it opens. when I first encountered this, I hit the confirm button a few times when nothing was happening, and then about 15sec later, the frunks started opening and closing as many times as I hit the confirm button.

anyone else? or is this something I need to see sweetened in the next update? ..or this is how it is w/ the app? button the banana screen works great.

Nope, that's a new one to me. Once the car is awake all of those buttons take a second or less for me. Do your phone and the car both have decent service?

Yes.. very good service. I’ll try and upload a mov later. But it’s 100% of the time. And nice it actually opened before I pressed the confirm button, and as it was opening I inadvertently hit confirm, and it started to close. lol!

The first one may take a bit because it has to wake the car up, but subsequent ones should be no more than a second or two.

Does the fob work “instantly”? If yes, it’s likely your service somehow either in the car or phone. If not, it’s likely hardware.

just went out w/ the fob (first time using, as I've always used the phone to see if I can get away w/ it.. so far so good)... stood directly in front of the car, )left my phone in the house, far from the car). pressed twice to wake the car... waited 15 seconds. nothing. do it again.. 10 sec later the doors unlock. then press hold... frunk opened almost instantly after the long press. (yay!) so it's the wake up that I'm assuming that I need to account for? not like dino cars that can pop a trunk w/ a single press? One thing I did notice, is that the fob is WAY faster to connect to the car from a cold walk-up. so I just setup the app to be a widget on my phone.. so as soon as the phone can unlock, my finger is on the screen where the widget is and that opens the app almost instantly when my phone wakes.. thus, waking the car. I freaking LOVE this car.. but it will NEVER be used as a 'get away car'. For sure a 'getting away' car.. but not one to get into quickly with duffels of cash and sirens approaching. ;)

You do not need to wake up the car by unlocking it with the fob first. You should be able to just walk up, hold the button, and the frunk should open. If that does not work within a couple seconds max, your car seems to be having some hardware issue (assuming the fob otherwise works).

@Joelaron it’s not just you! I’ve had my AT for a week now as well. So glad you posted this because my experience was exactly like yours. I read about people having problem with the fob like it randomly turn on and off the (handles presenting) if they are outside the car (not that close and stationary). I also read somewhere that the battery life on the fob was low. My onboarding advisor also told me to use my app vs the fob.

The fobs work great for us. It will tell the car to unlock and present the door handles if you are nearby - this is how it works. The phone as a key will do exactly the same thing, as it should.
Fob battery life has been at least six months, maybe a year.
We keep our fobs near the car at night (just on the other side of a door), so we keep them in inexpensive small Faraday pouches to keep the car asleep at night.
One thing about a forum like this - potential new owners can get wound up about things that are not a big deal for most.

If you experience this with either the fob or the mobile key (usually when walking around the car in the garage), you can turn off auto-unlock in the car's settings. Then to enter the car, you just walk up to it and gently press in the door handle. The car will unlock and present the handle.

Yes it’s very finicky. I tried to create a shortcut for opening the frunk using my action button on my iPhone. It was super unreliable. Sometimes it would open within 5 seconds. Sometimes it would take 20 seconds, sometimes it wouldn’t open at all. And then the app itself will never wake the moment you need it urgently. Eventually I gave up and stopped using it.

At least the shortcut to open the app in the car is on the driver side panel so you can just reach in and open it without having to sit down inside the car
