NotchEV NYC to LA Ionna only Trip

Going to be interesting to see how it goes as he gets further west. There are VERY few open Ionna stations between Denver and LA. I was thinking of driving to Denver this Thanksgiving from So Cal and there are only 2 Ionna's that would be convenient to use on the way, the Las Vegas one is too far off 15 fwy. The Ionna website does show lots of stations that are coming, so hopefully there will be more open by November. Unfortunately, I can't take my Air for the trip as I have summer tires on the 21's and they are not rated for winter temps, nor do I want to risk driving over the Rockies in them. I will end up taking my R1S for the trip instead and supplement charging with Tesla using membership pricing for the duration.
 
A LOT more coming. See Out of Spec's You Tube video about the partnership with Circle K just announced. IONNA is going to ramp up very quickly in the next year...
 
How will he get across the Tennessee/Kentucky divide?
 
Would be easily do-able, if it weren't for the Cannonball nature :p If outright speed wasn't an issue, you could easily bridge the gap with an overnight hotel charge. But yes, agreed, it's going to be really interesting from Colorado to LA but it should be do-able.

Doesn't need to go that far south. He can just follow I-70 for most of the trip.

Looking Plugshare, I think the longest gap is between the two Ionnas in Colorado, at 375 miles. If you go by the range tests reviewers have done, he won't be able to cover that distance at 70mph (not taking elevation into account). If any of the coming soon locations in Denver were open then it should be an easy run.

Plug n Charge would be great. Lucid needs to contact Ionna to implement that. It's a digital security thing. The two companies need to exchange digital certificates (PKI) for authorization.

I've used iONNA several times. Plug in and tap my card (Apple Watch, actually) and we're off to the races. Not P&C, but not inconvenient either.

I've asked Ionna employees about it and the most they'd say is it's something they are working on with Lucid. This was back in Feb/March so I guess we continue to stand by. Tap to pay does work pretty flawlessly so it's not too much hassle to do that.
 
From my understanding Ionna is just plug and charge and credit card. They do not have nor plan to issue an app. The times I've used them has been painless with a quick handshake and payment processing.

Since they are run by a consortium of automakers (BMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai/Kia, Mercedes, Stallantis, Toyota), I would expect some exclusivity of plug and charge to their makes.

Rivian has plug and charge on Ionna

Pretty sure that is the case. Tom Moloughney interviewed iONNA execs on his State of Charge channel and that is pretty much what they said.
 
I just activate it in the Chargepoint app since sometimes I need to use a bunch of the networks in there as 3rd or 4th options.
 
For those that are interested, the remaining videos for his trip have been posted. I find that watching them at 1.5 to 1.75 speed is better as there's lots of rambling (although not to the level of Kyle from OutofSpec)



 
I was really nervous about that storm and under a tree. But looked like fun and the production quality with the cut in drones shots of the country in general were great IMO

iONNA does use apps, just not their own. You can start a charge using ChargeHub, ChargePoint or EV Connect

But they're not required or even recommended. Just an extra convenience if you already happen to use those.
