Lucid air touring
Have the Lucid air touring for 3 months. I live in a cold climate and noticed the door handle getting stuck and making loud flapping noises a few time and won’t open. Very disconcerting. This is even after preheating car. Water/ice gets in the hinge and freeze the door handle. My 2015 model s have pop out handles and don’t have same problem. Why do these EV car makers love pop up door handles? How much range does it add?

Is this only when it's cold and wet? The reason I'm asking is that some Lucids have had the same issue with the door handle, totally unrelated to the weather. I've had one of my door handles replaced for this.

I grew up in cold climate (Canada). Winters are -20F to -40F.

I don't know how the door handles would fare with ice/freezing rain. I can see them frozen shut. Honestly, with the Lucid Air's low riding height, batteries in subzero climate, I would be concerned if the Lucid Air is my only vehicle. The Gravity might fare a bit better. I think a heated garage is a must.

The door handles can and do freeze shut. I believe that Lucid increased the outward force to try to get them to break any ice built up. I think that was in an OTA update a while ago.

The mechanism that pushes the handles out can dislodge a connector and then the handle won't pop out at all even if it's not frozen.

Ask me how I know so much about door handles freezing and breaking.

Ah, Buffalo! I used to be your neighbor, from Toronto! Buffalo gets all the snow!😉

My lucid is garaged at home but outside at work. Also I want to be able to leave my car outside when shopping and doing things in winter. I live in Canada and my 10 year old tesla s is left in cold and door handles don’t get stuck. Right know the handles work fine when in garage.

I'm a month in, east coast US. A few days after I got the car, the driver door handle got stuck shut just from a tiny snow we had that happened to make those little chunks that froze inside of it. I emailed customer service and they told me you can push the handle inward about an inch in that event which might help break up the ice. yeah I do think the handles should have been heated; I realize this might create melting snow which will re-freeze, but I'd rather go through a few heat cycles to try to clear it if it re-freezes; I don't think warming the interior with a pre-heat unsticks the handle, at least not the one I had. And I think per the other post, there was a change to the handles to make that shaking action where the car will try to break the ice as well. still not sure why they are not heated .. in this recent snow here this week, I didn't have an issue although I did clear the snow at the time, but no subsequent problem in the day after (when it melts, freezes, etc).

Just give a push and the door handle should release. Happens occasionally and no need to be concerned. I have never been locked out.
My third winter with the car and it’s fantastic in cold and snow.

No, I also have a Subaru.

The Lucid is driven most of the time, including most winter days. I only use the Subaru if there is very deep snow or if I need to get to a trailhead.

Well now, a Subaru, 😉!

I used to have a Subaru before. Great car, for winter driving.

I don't live in cold climate area any more. If I did, I would never drive my Lucid AGT in an unplowed road, or in freezing rain. The clearance is simply way too low to deal with winter eventualities. The Lucid is a great driving car (SW notwithstanding), but it is mostly a fair-weather car.

I have actually driven my Lucid in horrible conditions, including pretty deep snow . Surprising, the thing just plows right through it, irrespective of the clearance. In 3 winters, I have driven almost every single day and I live on top of a pretty big hill , in Idaho. The traction control is superb .

But, I understand the apprehension in colder climates; there are potential issues. I have just been very fortunate . Would I sell my Subaru and not have a backup? I wouldn’t.

No, this is my cars third winter and it's outdoors 24/7/365, -3F this morning when I left work. Should be about -10F when I leave tomorrow morning, I ran the car through an automatic wash on the way home this evening to get the salt off; I'll report back if I have any issues.

Who tells you these fables?
It's like a tracked vehicle on an unplowed road, and it's like any other AWD vehicle in freezing rain.
