No PAAK - Hello Weiner Mobile

When I got my model 3, the Paak was way worse than Lucid’s implementation is now. But Tesla did improve it significantly. Lucid can still make it better, but I haven’t carried a fob for several months and I rarely have issues with my phone as a key.

Gravity will get true UWB support, which will blow away anything else, eventually. Those of you with a current BMW know how good it is. Once that happens, all these paak complaints about Gravity will be a distant memory.

Well that's good to hear. I have been reluctant to say much about a lot of the issues I'm noticing with Gravity, because I was assuming they were still working out bugs and such. When that last software release came out I was worried that was all we'd get. Is there a place where we can see what features are in the pipeline? If I knew what was eventually coming, it would probably relieve most of my mild anxiety about things I thought I was going to have in the Gravity that I so far don't.

No doubt they now only give you one fob (my Air came with 2) because people demand their phones unlock their cars.(personally, I'd insist on 2 and not buy the car if they demurred) If you have the fob in your pocket, you just need to press the door handle and the car opens. So, as I said, the whole phone as a key thing makes 0 sense to me. Being relieved of the burden of having to actually carry car keys seems like the definition of a teeny, tiny convenience to me. Obviously, others disagree and want the feature, but Lucid seems to be having a difficult time delivering.

The ONLY key I carry these days is for my Gravity, so it would sure be nice to not have to. The phone now supports this, but it’s more hands on then PAAK (take out phone, authenticate phone, open Lucid app, wait till it connects to car, push button, confirm push, wait till car opens, return phone to pocket). Yes, a real first world problem, I know. The bigger problem is it requires an internet connection, so even with this I still have to carry the key card for garages, etc. But my house and business now have digital locks, so this us my last key/fob/card to loose!

There IS an NFC reader on driver b pillar.

Yes, what I was saying is if they installed a similar NFC reader on the passenger side it would help. When you have a kid in a car seat that is on the rear passenger side the ability to unlock/lock from that side is more useful than the driver side.

There is a Car Connectivity Consortium that has developed standards, but PAAK for me is "the phone acts as a key without my having to do anything." That is just me. Lucid's app requires me to push a button to activate the key. It's still a digital key.

PaaK does in fact mean "the phone acts as a key without my having to do anything."

Air has PaaK.

Gravity does not (yet). When it does, it will have both PaaK and Digital Car Key.

And yes, PaaK is a superset that includes, but is not limited to, Digital Car Key.

Yes, it's annoyingly confusing.
